Ive got a older snap-on tool box probably 50's ive been keeping my some stuff in for a few years and the inside is in great condition but the outside is just plain beat up from years of use. Does anyone know if there any colors that Rusto, Krylon or Montana make that match it close? Im dont expect a perfect match but close would be nice. thanks

I would just get it matched or use the "official" paint code from Snapon (PPG Ditzler Wet Spray Number 73504) or PPG Powder Number AR320 Resin (for powder coating).

Any local automotive paint jobber should get you fixed up with paint and usually can put it in a paint can if you want to apply that way.

You'll have to take one of the drawers to a good paint store to have some paint matched. An automotive paint store would be better. I never liked that old orangy-red color myself; I'd be tempted to change it over the the modern red if it were my box.

If you go with the modern red, all you have to do is take that paint code that hholmberg posted to the paint store.

If your doing a total repaint, use the underside of the drawer for matching. Patch job, use the largest scanable, removable drawer, exposed section, due to fading.

Good advice...I've repainted a handful of boxes, and if the bottom of the drawer is in good shape, I don't even bother repainting it. If the bottom of the drawers are messed up, you know the box has been used and abused.

Does Snap On generally still use the orangish-red from the '80s? I like that color...but can never match it in spray paint off the shelf. I'll be getting some from a jobber like Billymade suggested in another thread.

Yeah the 73504 code can be mixed in DCC which is a single stage paint system. That means there is no clear coat needed as a top coat since it is already in the base. In order to use this paint you will obviously need a paint gun and a well ventilated area. PPG also offers this in there other economy (Cheaper) brands. But not in any of there basecoat clear coat systems.
