Professional's use a drum sander with vacuum pickup and a disk edger to clean up the edges. They also use a large almost square orbital sander if all the finish and a lot of surface of the wood does not require removal. It's a lot harder than it looks to get a smooth sanding job that does not have scratches that stand out after staining. Any style of sander will work they just require a lot more time than a drum floor sander.
