link doesn't work--says facebook error...is it just a regular friction welder or something special?

Your link doesn't work anymore, but if it's like any orbital I've been around, it's an automated TIG process that does an autogenous weld. It's the standard on big sanitary pipe jobs.

We use them in the Boilermakers trade a lot. They are pretty slick. Once they are set up you don't even need to know how to weld to run them
