ordered my Reznor!

Hi folks.
We ordered our reznor 45k unit today. Closed combustion.
My son is a 1 year hvac apprentice and has all his gas tickets. Not woried about install.
But does anyone have any tips?
We will be venting through the wall. 6"studs, drywall, insulation and vinyl siding.

cost of cat.3 horizontal vent pipe will blow you away.

yeah, I was going to horizontal vent my Modine, till I found out the cost/ I went thru the roof with b-vent much much cheaper

Similar situation here, I didn't want to go out the side and through my nice pretty stucco, mainly for $$'s but also for appearance. I ended up going vertical for my Reznor UDAP150 heater that I just installed and painted my flue piping to match the roof. Turned out great I think. No tips really, just be prepared for a bit more money to be spent if going horizontal venting.

It's like $235 bucks for a horizontal vent kit. I'm not sure why so many people think this is "$$$$$" expensive? How much more is it than a vertical kit? $100 bucks? $150 bucks? Big deal....

Mine cost me $550 (wholesale) for a straight 8' run.

I just did mine last month. Duct work is expensive. Double wall is required and my end cap was custom made. Mounting to the ceiling was the hardest part. Once mounted it was a pretty easy install.

Question Robo.. Custom cap? Also what is your clearance to your soffit?

Actually the cap was standard from a local custom duct work place. The piece that goes between the drywall and vinyl is custom, extra large and then reduced to fit into the cap.
The cap is probably 6 to 8 inches from the soffit. I would have to measure to be sure.

I did a reznor UDAS 60K through the side wall. Agree with all others that the darn zflex is very expensive. I used the reznor kit that has concentric pipes out the side wall. All worked well - you don't need anything to cool the pipes because the inlet air is on the outside so there is no danger to insulation, etc.

I do have a couple of tips:
1) If you use the reznor kit, you'll find that the part that is exposed to the elements outside (a grille like piece) has non-stainless hardware. I retrofitted stainless hardware - there are little spacers that are just metal tubing cut about 3/8" long. I bought stainless tubing and made my own replacements, and used all stainless hardware along with that. I hate exterior stuff rusting! See the attached photo for the spacer.

2) For the "appliance" adaptor that mates to the exhaust of the reznor, do NOT buy one that has an anti-backflow flap. I did and messed with it for a good while before I figured out that it was causing a problem with the reznor pressure switch. When I bought the adaptor without the flap, all was fine.

Mounting to the ceiling was the hardest part.

Hardest part (most reluctant?) was cutting the hole through the wall. Lifting the unit to the ceiling was easy ....one man job with a drywall lift.

Nice! I have lots of ss hardware.. and I have a princess auto drywall lift.
The lift is a pos. But with 2 people its ok.

I had to drag and lift my HD 75K up by myself........was not fun

The little 45K that it replaced was much easier and more lightweight

I have one that is through the wall because the roof is metal and I didn't want to deal with trying to seal a penetration. I have another with an asphalt shingle roof and a roof vent because it is easy with shingles to have a weather tight penetration.

Are you happy with your unit. I was ruling out those types because they tend to be noisy ... but now I'm finding the infrareds have their own issues as well.

Can u post a pic of how you ran your propane line from the back of the heater? I'm ready to hook up my mr. Heater and want a rough idea.
