Yesterday I placed a New Age Cabinet order for the new shop – Black Friday prices. I wanted to purchase the 14 pc set from Costco and make some substitutions. I called both but New Age would not allow changes or substitutions to the Costco bundles. So we had to build our own bundle of what we wanted and take the plunge. These will go on the back wall of the shop, working around the two windows. The sink will go under the rear most window on the east wall, looking out to the chicken yard.

I too saw the costco sets, and have started to research. I just sent an email for their design consultation. We are in the planning stages of a 33x44 detached garage. I want to plan out the interior storage and placement of cabinets and then decide on placement of the windows and door. I'd hate to realize I should have moved a window over 6" to allow a smoother install of cabinets or lockers.

How did the design process go? Was it helpful or pushy trying to upsell?

I have a **** load of the Pro 3.0 and they really are pretty good for the money. I had a shipping mishap with Wayfair a couple years ago so ended up with a double quantity as there was some very livable shipping damage. Also, at work we had bought a 14 piece set and didn't need them all. Up next is we are moving at work so I will get 9 more uppers, 2 lockers, 2 lowers with top and a couple more Gladiator workbenches and racks\shelves. Running out of room in my 3000 shop! lol

I purchased the New Age PRO cabinets from Costco 3-4 years ago. No shipping damage or any other complaints. The Pro model are a good call. I went with the red black colour scheme.

I designed the shop without regard to the cabinets as there is enough variety of dimensions it was easy to work around the window placement. These are going on the rear 34' wall that has two windows.

As far as their design process, it went pretty smoothly. My son worked with them and made a few changes; he was satisfied overall. Like any other sales folks they like to contact you to get you to place the order, just don't give them your phone # until you order. We first started working with them last April and they finally gave up contacting him. Then with this Black Friday pricing I got it started and ordered withing 2 days (but we already knew exactly what to order).

I’d like to get 2 of the new wider 42 inch drawer chests to replace my 3 standard size but no stock yet in gray and prices are high. I bought at somewhere in the $350-400 range on sale several years ago and these larger ones will be more than twice that on sale.

After a 6 month wait and a lot of excuses from New Age I got a call from them about 2 weeks ago that the cabinets were finally and the trucking company would contact me to arrange delivery once shipped ...

Delivery truck arrived about 2:00 and I had him back in the driveway so we could off load in front of or into the shop. He opened the back roll up door and I almost soiled myslef. One of the pallets had tipped over and items were strewned about with obvious container damage.

At that point we could either 1) reject the entire shippment or 2) accept it as damaged and he'd take pics and document everything and work with New Age on the damage. Additionally, we unpack the cabinets and inspect each item and maticulously make notes and take pictures of any and all damage and contact New Age Customer Service who will alsready have been contacted by the frieght company.

We opted to accept as damaged shippment and work with New Age. Being it took so long to get this shippment, I couldn't see taking the chance that they'd be out of stock again of the damaged items and we'd be waiting again for a new shippment. Tonight I'll go back over to my son's house and we'll start the process of unpacking and inspecting everything. I don't feel there will be a lot of damaged items, maybe 5 or 6, we'll see how it goes. Pics attached of the shippment after the shrink wrap removed and the individual cartons brought into the shop. I've included a pic of one of the cabinets so you could see the Gray Fronts on black cabinets. They are very well built and heavy! No wonder they are so expensive and everyone likes them quality and built to last!

Just got home from Son's house, unpacking and inspecting cabinets and putting the adjustable feet on the bottoms. So far damage isn't really that bad - 4 cabinets with minor damage. Tomorrow night we'll try to finish up with this process so we can make our claim we have 2 more cabinets, work bench frame, sink cabinet, 5 stainless steel work surface tops and slat wall pieces to go. I've attached pics and you can see a few of them all lined up out of the way in what I'm calling the staging area. They look awesome. The 84" tall cabinets are 46" wide and 24" deep and weight 335 lbs each ugh!! My back is sore again tonight. I cut down the cartons and stacked them and the pile of styrofoam packing material is growing!!

The stainless tops are just really thin stainless over wood—don’t use them like an old school steel top or you will dent them. 2 of your chests look like the newer 42”. I have 6 of the 28” because that was all that was available 5 years ago, but have 2 of the 42” on order since the extra width will allow me to organize some of my tools better.

Pbon, you are correct. We noticed the thin SS and wasn't surprised, will use caution. 2 of the chests are 42" Tool Cabinets and the 2 lockers are also 42"

My son and I finally finished up all the unpackaging, inspection and installing all the leveling feet on all the cabinets and cleaning up the worse of the mess in the shop. We moved all the floor sitting cabinets into their general location on the back wall. Turns out we had 8 damaged cabinets, mostly scratches and chips and one of the cabinets also dented on it's face frame trim. One of the workbench frames was missing the 4 sided nylon inserts that go over the bottom legs that slip into the top legs to help add stability and minimize wobbling. I have written New Age and supplied details on damage and missing parts along with pics - we'll see what they come back with on how to resolve the issues.

07/12/23 Update

Today we finally reached an acceptable resolution of this issue of damaged cabinets that has been twisting in the wind since 05/01/23. The most frustrating experience I have ever had with a business. They refused to replace the damaged cabinets and offered a pathetic partial refund which we refused. Problem is they are always out of the 42" lockers and they are on back order. They offered to have someone come out and do repairs on location. Well heck, they would not do it as good as I could so I asked what if their repairs arent't acceptable? Will you then simply replace the cabinets for new ones that we purchased and I've been asking for? Then they upped the partial refund offer and I know it was because they didn't have any replacements and with the shipping both ways they would really be in the hole on this. My son finally gave up on having new, undamaged cabinets and we'll go ahead and fix them We negotiated a refund that is acceptable to us. This was horrible customer experience, took far too long and I'd have reservations about recommending them to friends simply for that reason alone. The product itself is good, just lousy at running a customer focued business.

Going back and forth with one of their sales reps right now. Can barely understand a word he says....
Doesn't seem to get the concept that I need a specific delivery window due to a couple of vacations,
just keeps repeating they will ship "after 8/1". Yeah, that's not what I asked for.

Any similar alternatives that I am just not seeing? Can't go with costco package since they don't
offer exactly what I want as OP stated above, no changes to packages allowed. Just picked up
a Cornwell toolbox so all I want is 2 36 inch lockers, 3 base cabinets with doors and 3 top cabinets.

Try Home Depot Husky. I have New Age Pro. In April, I ordered 2 42” 5 drawer chests. Current estimate in August delivery. In May, I ordered a 42” locker. It arrived at the end of June. I already had 29’ of New Age Pro and like it, but no 42”.

Do you think there would be any different outcome or response if it had been just the standard set from Costco?

I want a corner setup, but ma just buy the large pro set from Costco and order the corner pieces separate.

Try Home Depot Husky.
Very hesitant to try this. I have a husky tool chest I bought from them and the slides are ****, hence getting
replaced by the cornwell box I got a great deal on through FB marketplace. Hoping the pro series new age
cabinets would be better than the husky.

There are probably good and bad versions of Husky as well as New Age. The 24 gauge light duty cabinet with 60 lb slides won’t compare to the 18 gauge heavy duty cabinet with 250 lb slides. I have 2 New Age Bold cabinets because I wanted only 18” depth on one wall but the same look as the Pro that are on other walls. The Bold are junk compared to the Pro. Similarly, Husky cabinets come in 20 gauge welded and 24 gauge bolt together. Not sure about chests.

tfalk, sorry I haven't gotten back before now; life has gotten in the way. Here is contact info for someone at New Age that was okay to work with. You will have some difficulty understanding due to their english. I found that following up with email and restating the conversation seemed to work fine. Hope this helps... Larry

Doug, thanks for your kind words about the shop. We're past the disappointment and have gotten all the cabinets installed filling in the back wall. We still have to install the slat wall in the open space between the windows, install the center speaker and put up a shelf for the AV equipment and install the sink under the window on the east wall looking out into the chicken yard. Just too many side jobs to be able to get to it.

Larry
