Guys,
I've never ordered directly from Snap-on. Do they charge tax as well as shipping?
Thanks, scheu

The orders are trackable from their website as well; free shipping you can't go wrong... plus, if you don't like your dealer... just bypass him altogether! :)

After buying from a dealer for the first time last week, I would see if you can find a dealer first. The prices I got from the dealer were way better than what they had online. Plus, I like to be able to see/feel what I am buying. Not such a big deal with sockets and such but buying a screwdrive without feeling it isn't for me. You never know, your dealer may be a decent guy (or girl).

I find snapon.com to be great for small replacement parts and things that dealers seem to loath to look up and order for you.... tool cases, rubber tool covers, broken bits, taps, etc. and other small missing things that take time to research. Many times the dealers I have had, just seem "put out" by servicing and finding these myriad of small replacement parts I need. This way... I can order 24/7 and get what I need without any attitude or feeling like I am a pest! I shouldn't have to feel that way but I don't buy tons of stuff from the Snap-On dealer... I really don't have the money to and I primarily buy used, so... I'll let him service the big spenders on his route and I'll deal with Snap-On corporate... it shouldn't be this way but that is where I have gotten to!

This is the reason i stopped buying snap-on all together................have not found a dealer that has a good attitude unless your buying...... never seen the service after the sale unless i owed them money:wtf: after paying them off all i ever got was the tail light warranty.......:wtf:

I buy the little stuff directly, a replacement socket, or new soft grip handle, or a hard handle for a project ratchet. Shipping is free and its quick too. I live in Cincinnati and things always seem to come from Illinois. UPS is usually next day or 2 days. Dont have to mess with finding a dealer ( no offense to Chad or Mr. Shaun )for that little stuff under 15 or 20 bucks. I order it at my desk and it shows up at the house. I cant get the snappy guy to call me back about small orders ~150 bucks, so I just go direct.

I've ordered a bunch of times, mainly small orders or specialty tools. Triple squares and T-handle allen wrenches for example, stuff the truck guy never has in stock and isn't common on ebay. Ordering online is ~2days vs. ordering through the truck dealer which is ~1 week... if he remembers to order my stuff! I pay list + tax on the truck so there is no real incentive for me to give him business, other than building a relationship for warranty/emergency purposes.

I've used 3 local dealers and paid list + tax every time, plus I have to drive to their house.

Great service, fast shipping. Also I've noticed when I send in Warranty claim tools they always put my Internet customer # on the shipping list. Maybe they look to see if you buy tools also. Never a problem on whatever I tried to warranty. Like having a dealer without really having one.

I wish the other tool companies would follow the SO model.

It's almost impossible to buy new Cornwell tools. Dealers are as rare as hens teeth and their website doesn't allow you to buy anything. I don't see how companies like this can even stay in business.

I just used the site last week. I had my tools in 2 days, which was impressive.

I agree with others, as a home user who only has 20 or so Snap-On tools, the trucks have no interest in warranty items. Even running through a friend who used to have a franchise and still knows drivers, it's pretty slow to get warranty service.

That said, I'm unlikely to break any decent tool with my use. I go to HF if I plan to abuse a tool. The trashcan warranty for prybar screwdrivers is quite easy.

The nice thing about buying directly from the Snap-on website is that you will get new unmolested tools. I've been buying off of "the truck" since '90 and often tools sold as new have been "kicking around " the truck for a while and appear marred and scuffed. When I've bought sealed sets off of the truck I haven't had that problem. Unfortunately my local SO dealer has an "attitude" so it was nice to find out that I can get tools directly from Snap-on.

i just registered last night on the Canadian SO site. May use it for buying odds and ends or i may end up doing all my purchasing through it, depending on how my new truck guy works out. Made my first purchase through him today - set (4) of talon grip pliers and a couple ratcheting screwdrivers (with free toucs ) for xmas gifts. He seems a little stand-offish but I'm guessing it's because he doesn't know me and because I don't work in a shop. I think he thought it was odd that I'd spend top $$ for tools without working in a shop - at least it seemed that way. But, when I left, he gave me a couple of baseball hats and said he'd do some more checking on the hard-handled stuff. He also knows that I bought my box second hand(he sold it to the PO) and made a point of telling me that there would be no issues warrantying it. So far so good, I guess.

but, this thread is about online purchases - anyone know if the shipping is free for <$500 orders off the canadian site like it is off the US site? it doesn't say it on the page like the US site does.

I still use my dealer from my old job, meet up with him on thursdays omw to my other place of business if I need service. Txt back and forth about prices and availability of things I need, and he keeps an eye out for deals on other things I may want. I will continue to do business with him as long as he's on a truck.

I prefer to use my local dealer because he treats the guy buying the $20 screwdriver the same as a guy buying an $8K toolbox. The one word of caution about ordering from the website is shipping. I bought some tools for my dad and wanted them shipped directly to him...no-can-do. I could only have them shipped to me and then take them to UPS and ship them again.

The only thing I've ordered from the site was the locking flex repair kit and I received it in 2 days. I'm pretty sure that I didn't have to pay shipping, which was nice.

You bring up a very good point. Most of the "trade" tools I buy locally are in poor condition and sometimes have rust as they have been on the shelves for years(decades?) when I was on the local SO truck a few tools were scuffed up and one screwdriver has a greasy handle.

Don't ever feel wierd buying off the trucks just because you're not a mechanic. I'm an IT guy and just call the SO guy when he's by my work (usually on Thursday's). I just call to find out where he's going to be, drive there, run on the truck, take a quick look, pick out what I want, pay, and leave. Remember that your money is just as green as eveyone else's. Plus, it's rare for folks like you and me (regular Joe's) to ever need to set up any type of payment account, so the SO guy will love the fact that we always pay in cash or use a credit card for the full balance.

I've ordered SO tools online as well (normally get them by the next day since I'm in Chicagoland) and just wish that I had access to the monthly flyer that seems to be only found on the truck. That's what I go on the truck some times, just to pick up the flyer so I can review it at home and get ready for my next purchase.

Anybody know if there's a link available for the monthly flyer?
