Just a stupid rant...

Are you guys finding more previously opened packages arriving from amazon recently on electrical items?

Just today, all I wanted was a single simple outlet receptacle and a switch with a built in night light.

Well, the outlet came in a plastic bag which was ripped open, and a plastic washer on a screw was missing.

The switch had the tape securing the box cut and it was also missing a plastic washer on a screw.

Recently I had an oxygen sensor come that had plastic packaging pre opened, looks like someone stole the anti seize out of it and then returned it?!

Anyway, its just a rant. Thanks for listening.

I got burned a couple times with electrical items. Amazon always takes them back...bit of a hassle but no lost money...

The classic one was where I ordered 12 LED lights for ceiling cans...got two boxes...the boxes looked good but only 1 light worked...got to looking at them and they all had felt tip writing on them...”bad’ or “broken”...aholes sent me two boxes of returned bulbs...Amazon took em back. I wrote a crappy review describing the whole thing with photos...they seller tried to say I was to blame.

Return it and move on....

They've started listing the "renewed" items as seperate listings, so make sure your paying attention to that. Also a lot of product listings seem to default to a used or "warehouse deal" since they're cheaper.

Never had an issue. I do have Prime and they allowed me to return a present after 30 days. No return shipping, no stocking charge.

I did buy one returned item, but I knew that up front. It arrived in terrible condition (box was destroyed, item was damaged). They didn't want it back so they gave ne about 50% off of the original price.

I got a killer deal on a diamond tipped coring set that came in a nice padded case, with extension and different drill chuck adaptors. I was skeptical as first, it was prime so I had nothing to lose, but it was listed as slightly used and returned but in like new condition.

It was literally brand new never used but the case was all busted up in the corner.

And as I type this I'm rolling the same dice on a towel shelf that I'm waiting for delivery. Let's see what happens there. Same/similar listing.

I've bought several things used from warehouse deals and when it's label "like new" or "very good" and ~80% of the time they look like they've never been touched, much less actually used. Fortunately for me anyway the criteria for different descriptions has worked out very well with only a few exceptions.

If you have time to return maybe do that, like already said, try to buy from amazon. I bought from a 3rd party a few times, it never comes when promised, and in both cases I bought locally before the part came, and then I had to pad to return ship, terrible. I wouldn't touch the warehouse deals if it's some sort of electronics that could have unknown issues, I took a chance on a doorbell one time and it was DOA.

Other things I've bought and the packaging busted open, small parts missing I couldn't bother to complain. The body mounts for my c10 come to mind, maybe 5 washers/nuts missing.

Yup!

Almost every time!!!!

I ordered several 3 w wall timers. One I received was the same MFG, but they returned a normal wall switch. They were really careful on how they cut open the package and resealed it. The second one was the same, however without opening the package you could see the wire ends were all twisted as if it had been installed, and I couldnt see the little bag with the 3 orange wire nuts...

Order a wheel bearing hub from the warehouse. opened the beat up box that had a inspection sticker on it, someone put their old hub in the box. Amazon took it back with no problem. Stopped ordering auto parts from them if i need them now.

Yes, same went for my video doorbell. They said open package, new item tested as working. I really doubt they tested it. I could see the screw marks on the mounting plate where it had been previously installed. Disappointing, if the claims were accurate I’d be more comfortable buying from warehouse deals. It’s basically a crapshoot.

I bought an item from the warehouse deals, said it had lots of cosmetic damage on the top and sides of item, but it was a really large jack stand for trucks. Item shows up, box beat to hell, amazon warehouse inspected tags on it, opened it up, not a scratch, nothing. So sometimes it pays, this saved me over $100 and it was worth it for sure.

I don't recall ever receiving a used item that was ordered from Amazon, or fulfilled by Amazon.

As far as Warehouse Deals goes they can't hardly be expected to completely test every item that comes back. A Ring doorbell could take twenty minutes to hook up and fully test. I have ordered a few like new items and they were just fine.

My problem is when stuff shows “renewed” or inspected. I at least expect all the parts to be there. It’s often not the case. It’s not the end of the world to return them, but it’s still a waste of my time to package it back up and send it back. Probably for the next person to buy and have the same problem.

Don't buy from 3rd party sellers.

If it's Prime shipping then it doesn't really matter. They use co-mingled warehousing. So if Amazon, and companies B and C are all selling the same product then it all gets mixed up in the warehouses. Amazon might have contributed product on the east coast, seller B in the midwest, and seller C on the west coast. If you buy from Amazon on the west cost then odds are you going to get the product that seller C sent in to Amazon's warehouses. And Amazon is doing very little if anything to confirm that the product is legit. It's not great for the legit sellers either. Lets say you buy from seller B and they ship you product that came from seller C and turns out that it's a fake. Well seller B is probably going to end up taking the heat for selling the fake product.

They do have the option of "stickering" their own goods so they don't get mixed up, but of course that more of a pain in the *** to deal with, and not really encouraged by Amazon since they would prefer to ship the product that it's a warehouse 100 miles away from the buyer instead of across the country.

Not sure if this thread should be in Electrical or free parking though.
