Looks like the click type they sell at Harbor Freight but for $9.99 with a coupon. If someone needs the coupon I can look for it.

^ I'd pay the extra $3 to be able to go down the street to replace it instead of 100 miles... Makes more sense for him to just get it at O'Reilly

While I totally agree, I wonder how oreilleys will handle that warranty after they no longer carry that item.

Just like Sears... change the terms and just say that it is no longer under warranty. I have a Sears click wrench that came with a lifetime warranty, but they want to take that one from me, and give me a beam instead. I told the department manager where to go, and what to do when he got there...

I can't say I trust the harbor freight torque wrench. But for non-critical bolts (lug nuts) I use it. Mine is a little under torque (I check it once a month against my beam wrench) but has been consistent. It's more than adequate for home use in the mid-range but I recommend checking it and getting a cheap beam (around 20 bucks probably less) for more precise work (any bolt used to hold a fluid (not that there are that many bolts that apply in this range) or rotational assembly (axle nuts mainly)). My opinion. Not that the axle nut (probably a pinch nut) would "de-torque" but a lot of people do things once and don't re-check them.

Usually it's "limited" in that it covers the materials but not the calibration. I'm not so sure these would ever "snap". They might replace for calibration but it's a local thing (will vary). I don't think anyone buys one of these expecting a lifetime of service at 10-20 bucks; a beam should give you (near) that though if you take care of it.

interesting article. Ended up getting a HF torque wrench because of it. So far mines worked out well.

I have the HF digital one mentioned in the Car Craft story. It works great and is accurate enough for my purposes. The nice thing about it is you can use any length breaker bar or ratchet so it fits into weird places that a normal torque wrench won't go. I got it to replace a broken head bolt that was up against the firewall in my Jeep CJ. It would have been really tough for me to fit a conventional torque wrench in between the firewall, master cylinder, and carb.

Just to nitpick: HF doesnt actually have a digital wrench, what you're talking about is the digital torque adapter.

Now for whatever its worth, I own one each of the 1/4, 3/8, and 1/2 dr HF torque wrenches and I have another one of the HF torque wrenches that Ive had for more than 10 years that seems to work fine (although with very limited use during those 10+ years). My other HF torque wrenches get used pretty regularly and still look to be holding strong.

I work at O'Reillys, I actually just warrantied an old Checker's torque wrench last month. If we do not have the exact one, we will warranty it out to the current equivilant or refund the original purchase.

That's cool. I've been impressed with oreilleys lately. They rarely have employees that know anything, but they have been trying really hard with customer service. They're a lot better than the Napas I deal with in Reno and Anchorage in that sense.

Here's the coupon for HF, good till 3/24/2014. Maybe some one can price match at Oreilly.

I cant speak for the company as a whole, but i know my store's customer service is excellent. I am impartial to Autozone/O'reillys. They both have their good and bad things, but i know we have A LOT of customers come to my store from the Autozone across the street, complaining about the service.

As to the knowledge of the employees; they have now been issuing tests to test your knowledge as a pre-requisite for employment.

Joking aside and totally off topic; the culture/mentality of the emerging generation of workforce is a large part of the problem.
