Went to O'Reilly to get a part no other auto store around me had and while waiting for the attendant to grab the part I happened to look at the flyer on the counter. The flyer showed a set of double box wrenches with a sales price of $17.99. The wrenches looked good on the flyer so I asked the attendant, now that he was back, if he had any in stock, and they did.

You know what??? They seem great for the price.

I have the cheapo Pittsburgh ones from Harbor Freight and I haven't thrown them away cause I'm a semi hoarder but now I will. These set is many times better, not only the finish but the fit also. I brought these ones home and tried them on a couple of bolts/nuts, comparing them to the Pittsburgh, and it's night and day.

Highly recommended for the price.

May have to give the stubby a shot. I use the Carlyle one I got at a yard sale all the time.

I clicked that stubby back and forth about 10 times before I put it back on the rack :D. Reading over the reviews, it seems the end of the handle has a 3/8" indentation so that you can use an extension to lengthen the handle when needed. I didn't even notice that :dunno:

Also, while I was looking at the wrenches I noticed three different ratchets that automatically caught my eye.

3/8" Stubby - 72 Teeth - $16.99

Thanks Joey - I, too, have the crappy HF SAE and Metric kits which have gotten me through but leave a lot to be desired in the fit dept. Ordered both (free shipping to boot!). Not bad for under $40. Hope they're an upgrade!

Any idea where that stubby is made? Im kinda interested

The wrenches are made in China so I'm sure it's either China or Taiwan. Would be better if it was Taiwan (Even better if it was the US) but the reviews speak highly of it.

Came across this good video for it.

I'm happy with them. Used them this morning on a Cooper's front suspension and they performed to my satisfaction. Hope you have the same experience.

I am interested in the stubby ratchet but local store does not have it, so I can not look at it before buying.

Is it pretty decent? I am just fixing our cars so it will not being used daily but just do not want to buy crappy ratchet that I will only use once lol

I picked one up a few days ago. So far, it seems nice. Being able to put a socket on the handle to use as a spinner, or two sockets to swap out is nice. The direction lever is a bit soft on mine, and it was the better of the two at the store. Not needed it specifically as a short stubby, but definitely small and thin when needed.i can also see sticking an extension on it, if I need a small head (ala Astro Nano).

these will come in handy doing a valve adjustment on my 23hp briggs engine.
Good find there.

Sure

Funny thing is, I found these while at the store buying a car part. That part fixed the car for which I was given, as a trade, a go-kart for the kids. The engine in the go-kart was acting up so I replaced it with a 212cc Predator engine from HF.

Now here's the "circle of life" type of thing which is super cool - I absolutely had to have these offset wrenches to get the old engine out and put the new one in. I needed to use the 13mm (1/2') wrench as it was the only tool that fit in the area and wouldn't round off the bolts.

It was like made to order ;)
