Organized portable tool boxes

I spend about 50% of my time out of the shop. I can't stand the regular portable box because it takes forever to find the appropriate wrench, screwdriver etc.

Is there any box that will fit in the back of a small hatchback but I can actually find the tool that I'm looking for? I also need to be able to carry it short distances.

I am intrigued by the Montezuma box but have trouble getting a sense of size and whether it'll fit in the back of my car.

Top box of a standard 27" stack? Most of them have handles on the sides.

The cheaper ones would be lighter weight and therefore easier to carry.

Call Strictlytoolboxes.com or look at their web site and the dimensions of those boxes and make a simple mock-up out of cardboard, see whether it will fit in your car. Also get the weight, weigh the tools, figure whether you can or want to carry it by hand.

I have bought several sizes and they work great. (I get them reconditioned from CPOtools.) I have no regrets.

I usually work out of my clamshell. I find the boxes with drawers waste too much space and add to much weight to be portable and useful. If I could find a nice plastic clamshell that would probably be ideal, although I'm not sure how plastic would handle airline baggage handlers...

Depends on how mobile you want to be. The tool back pack is has been worth its weight in gold for my off road rig. Compact, light weight, and well organized.

Dewalt t stack, can seperate them and bring the section you need on site. Very useful box when your in different areas working.

How large of a space do you have? How far do you plan on carrying it? How strong are you?

A full size 26" top box can hold quite a bit, but they get heavy and cumbersome fast, especially if you have to go thorough standard man doors.

The common 3 drawer 20" portable boxes can hold quite a bit yet are still pretty easy to carry around.

All good options. Thanks for the ideas, I hadn't thought about a few of those. I don't have a clear favourite so it's time fore some more thinking.

I have used a 4 drawer craftsman toolbox for many years. same box in garage as I carry to races. it holds as many tools as I can lift. I can take a pic when I get home if you want
