Re: Organizing 1/4\" Bits

I bought the bit organizer from Lee Valley for organizing my 1/4 bits. Its comes with 4 screws is about 3/8 thick. The holes are a fairly tight I find myself needing needle nose pliers just to pull some of the bits out.

Good product would definitely buy it again.

I think I want to try this to store sockets. It should be cheaper than most holder except for the steel rails and won't take as much room as Hansen style organizers

Looks nice but after buying some Lee Valley/Veritas woodworking hand tools the doctor said I could no longer visit them so the sickness doesn't return. :D

Re: Organizing 1/4\" Bits

I had been searching the net for a solution and had coincidentally ordered one of these a couple days before it was posted just to try it out. So far ok. a bit hard to pull the bits out, maybe its needs some break in. Hey at least every kind of darn 1/4" bit in one spot in the top of the toolbox.

Awesome idea. This will get the plastic case off the floor. I'm thinking about hard mounting it to a drawer slide and mounting it to the lip of the workbench on the side.

I still prefer to keep most tools in a tool box. Out of sight when not in use means less dust/dirt collection and easily locked up.

I have been known to use the little trays my ammo comes in.
Various sizes, 50 holes per tray.

It's called the freezone storage system, and is sold by Lee Valley Tools. here's the link:

http://www.leevalley.com/us/hardware/page.aspx?p=71906&cat=1,43326

It has nearly 500 holes and can comfortably hold 200 to 300 bits. It's great for securely holding and sorting bits, while they are readily available for selection and removal. Push them in lightly for easy retrieval, or press them in firmly to have a super grip.

I find mine is invaluable in organizing my bits right over the workbench on the wall. Takes up very little space and has a huge number of bits. For $6.50, it was one of the great bargains of all time. I bought mine when I was buying a honing jig for planes and chisels. That is a great tool also.

I've got many of my bits in the Dewalt yellow clamshells, with markings with tape for what they are.
