Morning Guys,

Trying to organize my stuff and wondering how to store these two items (trailer hitch tray & the Lexus 3rd row seats) in the garage? I have no problem with the space, just need some ideas so that I can make the appropriate changes and buy the right stuff.

Will post pictures of the garage/s later today

Thanks

It all really depends on how frequently you need to access either item. If you only use that hitch basket a couple times a year, I would say tuck it behind a workbench or in a closet somewhere. If you use it a couple times a month, hang it on the wall with some heavy duty hooks for easy access. For the seat, I would make a simple cart out of a cheap furniture dolly so it can be rolled against the wall or tucked under a shelf or bench - those things are usually pretty heavy and no fun to manhandle.

C2: i agree with the hitch storage cause it depends on how often you use it. if you use it often then make a hook on the wall or give it a spot on a shelf easy to reach.

i like commercial racking like they have at a Home Depot or Costco, but for a home's garage Costco sells a Whalen brand 6.5 foot wide, 6 foot tall and 2 foot deep rack for about $150 that should hold some of your stuff.

i also like the idea about buying or making a sort of furniture dolly to roll your Lexus seat to it's spot. on the Whalen rack i mentioned you don't need a shelf on the bottom so you could maybe store your lawnmower or chipper or other tool alongside your Lexus seat.

here's a storage shelving wall built out of 2 Whalen racks to give you an idea what i'm talking about. if you have 20 feet of wall this system will work nicely.

I bought a few sheets of 3/4 inch plywood and made some nice solid cabinets in an afternoon. I used store bought doors to pretty it up.

I have 4 transmissions on top of the cabinet. They have to be over 200 lbs up there. Just get the big stuff off the floor and it will make a world of difference.

I would hang them flat on the wall or vertically inside of shallow cabinets. If you barely use them, I'd consider those steel ceiling mounted wire racks and stuff them up by the ceiling.

The bike and the hitch rack would go on a bike lifting cable set up..
1 for the bike, one for the rack.. now they are up and out of the way..
Seat, I don't know, maybe put it in the vehicle :bounce:

If you rarely use the 3rd row seats, I know the ones for a tahoe will squeeze in a large trash bag, which we then taped shut. Just to keep them from getting all dusty and nasty.

No, need to oversimplify it. Get them on shelving units or up in the ceiling/rafters/ etc. No matter what get them off the floor because that's the major pain in the ***.

I am a big fan of rope and pulleys to haul stuff up toward the ceiling and out of my way. You can make them up yourself from stuff at the hardware store or look into premade kits. Our house came w/ some bicycle lifts and also a rack kind of like yours but an expanded metal base. That thing is pulled up to the ceiling and has a bunch of oil drain, buckets etc on it. You could do that w/ yours and I bet you could work it out so the seat sits on the trailer tray. My tray is held up by two of these.

I used to work as a Lexus tech so, while that seat is kind of a pain to you, I bet it is a $2000 item so take care of it. As mentioned, a plastic bag and move it to where it will never be contacted.
