[...] They hold your sockets standing straight up in a drawer, maximizing use of space.[...]

I'll bet a rail full of deep well sockets won't stay standing unless they're fastened down or packed in against other stuff.

And there are no sizes displayed on these rails.

I'm sure they're a great product. But they're still socket rails.

Yeah, if you just have a strip of deepwells they will stay upright fairly well on their own but probably not if you open a drawer quickly. They will stay standing a LOT better than just the cheap metal socket rails though where your sockets will flop over if you breathe on them.

You just cherry-picked one of several points made in my post though. As far as the OP wanting both portability and maximizing the use of space in a tool drawer, the urethane strips can easily be cut to just the size you need (not to mention they tend to be cheaper than most other socket rail options). So, for example, if you have torx & allen sockets that have 5 to 7 bits in a set or some such, the strip can be cut just to fit those sockets. That way there's no leftover unused strip wasting space in your box or handles on the ends like many of the nicer socket rails have which, likewise, waste a lot of space in a drawer.

And, as the OP is needing to make the most of every inch in a drawer full of sockets, then that "rail full of deep well sockets" almost definitely will be "packed in against other stuff", as you say.

Aircraft Maintenance Technician.
I designed the first Magrail Vim tools sold. Working with several Hundred mechanics at O’Hare Airport It was made very clear to me what they liked and disliked about the original Magrail. I took this feedback and designed the Magrail TL. The objective was to give the technician the best socket rail available. When a technician purchased a Magrail TL he or she would find it far exceeded their expectations.

Totally love your design, does everything I expected/hoped it would very well. Better than any other product I've tried, and does so in a end user adjustable system that wastes almost zero space. Only unpleasant factor is the cost to organize a large number of sockets, but everyone has to make money somehow.

these are by far the best socket rails on the market, yes you do have to pay up for these but they will be the last ones you will ever need

For those who use magnetic holders do you ever think it's a pain in the **** to have your sockets etc magnetized? For instance trying to get the tool on a fastener only to have it keep getting stuck on the frame of what your working on.

The Magrail TL does not magnetize your sockets. Its design allows each socket to contact two magnets. One magnet north up one magnet south up allowing the flux lines to flow through the socket from one magnet to the other. This arrangement reverses every two inches the length of the Magrail TL. This should be kept in mind if you remove the magnets from your Magrail TL so they can be reinstalled properly.

I'd avoid high strength magnets anywhere near where steel or iron fabrication takes place.

I find normal socket trays work well for me. In my tool bag \I only have 6 sockets I use regular so they live in a side pocket

If you ever need them, Magrail TL's will attach back to back so you can place them in a tool bag and not pick up other tools. The photo is two 6" rails with 1/4 drive sockets.

Another great option...

How are those mag rails at ratchet/extension storage?

Also, what model is your snap on box?

The Snap-on box is a Kra-251A.

Yes the Mag TL's work great for ratchets, extensions, punches, wrenches etc.

Thanks, the box model gives me an idea of size...

So two questions...Did you shorten some of the rails? It looks like the shortest rail is 8" long but your box is 7" front to back and it looks like you have rails configured that way.

Also, I think I see what looks like tall pegs on the rails, I do not see those on VIM's site. Custom?

Thanks again

The Magrail TL Also comes in 6" "red only". Two to a package. Part number MR6R11A. For pegs use the socket pegs, or for taller pegs you can use the rail lifters just take the ring off, they are 5/16" x 1 1/4" cost is around $6 for a package of 10. I bought black Delrin rod from McMaster-Carr or if you know of a plastic supplier near you that sells it. Mine are 1/4" Dia. and cut to the length I needed. You will need to drill the end and tap it to 8-32 thread so it will screw onto the T stud that goes into the rail. I found that a 1/4" peg saves a lot of space.

I had to click on this heading because I was curious what everyone had to offer for advice and what has worked for them. A lot of great ideas but for me I like to see what the socket size is when I am looking for it so I find the ones on pegs difficult to determine size (yes some have the numbers down by the pegs and I like that) although a space saver. Overall, Thanks for sharing as I find a way to save space and lay them down on their side so I can reach for the ones I need right away. I guess one way is to get a larger tool box :) We can all use a larger toolbox right! :0 :)

How do the magrails compare to the Hansen socket trays in density? I've got a drawer full of the Hansen trays, with additional loose rails tucked in between the pegs, etc. It would be nice to get a system that packs more densely so I get flex sockets, etc, a secure place to live.

They pack pretty densely, this is the metric side of my drawer. I still need 1 more Magrail of each drive size and probably an extra 3/8 rail for the hex drivers. As you can see, I don't have 1/4 dr sets on a magrail, or the 3/8 semi.

I used to have all Hansen trays. I've been switching to Ernst rails. I use just the rails, not the trays. They've really saved space in my box. They don't fall over either. They work great.
