I acquired a large number of older snap on socket rails today. One was almost 24" long which was a surprise. What was that for? Does anyone know.

I have a 1/2" impact socket set that came on a rail that I want to say was almost 3' long.

Most 1/2 " sets come on a rail that is 16 3/4" long. I have a couple. I have never even seen anything on a genuine snap on rail that is 2ft long and they don't show it in any catalog I have.

I don't know if the long socket rails were used in sets. I do know that they have been discontinued (a couple years ago, I think). There was 23 3/8" rail, P/N A266A and a 31 1/2" rail, P/N A268A.

The one I have is a A266. It sure is long. They are long since discontinued. i finally found a reference to both in a Snap On Catalog from 2001. Thanks much.

How long do you want it to be? If you have A LOT of sockets you can buy it in 12 ft. lengths. Socket rails are really sail tracks that screwed onto wooden masts and booms on sailboats back in the day. Stainless and bronze were available. You can still buy it at most larger marine supply houses.

The question was NOT about how long I wanted it to be. It was merely informational about Snap On rails in particular and the sets that went on them.
