The BACK of my shed was redone in OSB a few weeks back. Can I just prime it, paint it with exterior paint and it will be good? In other words. Will it rot or is it made for exterior use? It is NOT covered with anything right now.

no, put some tar paper, followed by sheet siding, which now needs to be caulked and painted. OSB is sheathing or underlayment, not the wear coat.

I was buying decent sheet siding for $14 for a 4x8 sheet...basically textured and sealed OSB. Put up plenty on the shop in Texas. With a couple of coats of opaque stain, it looked NICE and matched the house.

I had osb on the backside of my garage/shanty when I bought the place. I never covered it or prepped it because I was planning on tearing it down. I shot a coat of white paint on it and seven years later it was still intact. It looked like total **** but it kept the rain out. I also dont know how long it was up before I bought my house, but I can tell you for sure that it was not fresh

Yeah it will last a while but it was never intended to be used as sidewall finish. I guess it all depeends on what you want it to look like and how much maintenance you want to be into. One of the posters mentioned that paint on anything is a good thing and this is mostly true. As long as the paint stay intact the product will hold up. Hell, the entire hardboard siding world depended on it for years!

Thanks for all the info, Guys. Actually this shed is at the back of my garage and you really don't see it. I plan to put a nice THICK coat of primer on it and then a few coats of paint, rolled on it. I hope it lasts another 5-10 years. The shed isn't in that great of shape as a whole...........

I've seen sheds last for years that were covered with OSB. Just make sure you paint it well AND make sure you get paint on any exposed edge.

I don't like it exposed.
It wasn't meant to be seen and I just think it looks **** ugly.
But if you do paint it, don't forget the edges.
The rain will get to them.
