I had a 16x24 portable style shop built yesterday. The guys did an excellent job on it and had it up in less than 8 hours. I got home yesterday to inspect it before i paid them for their work. I forgot to request plywood flooring so they used 3/4" tg osb. I cant fault them so its on me. The shop has a roll up door and appx 6"x8' of the osb is exposed to the elements. I thought about putting down a couple coats of oil based primer and then paint the floor and where the exposed portion is also add some rubberized roof coating. What do you guys suggest?

I don't have a lot of knowledge about different types of OSB. I would like to remove the pieces your concerned about and treat all 6 sides. I can't reccomend any particular product, perhaps a long soak in an oil based product would keep the water out. I guess it depends on the type of glue used in the sheets.
Good luck,

Richard

Remove the OSB that is outside & put down pressure treated plywood. The OSB won't last outside.
Better yet why not concrete outside?

The building is on concrete blocks with 4x4 skids with floor joists so concrete is not gonna work. With the walls and siding up I don't see a way to remove the osb.

There is a brand of osb (Advantech) that is awesome as far as osb goes. Very weather resistant. Actually holds up better than plywood. I would paint the area with a good deck paint where it gets hit by weather.

The osb is made by norbor and its either truflor or pinnacle i dont recall. Its dark outside and im done for the day. I did pick up some flood wood stain from lowes, it had excellent reviews. Think i will try it out.

I've tried treating the original OSB from years ago with the stains and preservatives of the time ( 80s ). It did not work well and the OSB delaminated just as it would being water soaked.

Would it be possible to cover the part of the OSB that is outside with sheet aluminum or stainless steel?

Yeah like a metal door piece like regular doors have at the bottom. Also, wrap it in weather barrier underneath the metal.

I would get with your contractor. Not sure where you live but down here in florida osb will not last. I don't care how weatherproof it is, id want it gone.
