Ridgid JobMax is a safe bet, variable speed, tool-free blade swaps plus you can switch out the end (also no tools req'd) and turn it into a nifty right-angle drill with the separate attachment. It will chew through anything but the big downside is the noise level at top rpms….its up the decibel scale pretty far. Comes with a case and stores away neatly.

I have a fein I got late 90s variable speed it is great if you are going to use it a lot, a few years ago I got a harbor freight single speed for a job I was on out of state away from my shop for 20 bucks it works really well. The fein is nicer but not 380.00 dollar's nicer.

I bought a rockwell f80 several years ago and it works great. It can also use just about any blade you can find.

Corded = Fein or Bosch
Cordless = Milwaukee

Cordless = Makita( I bought the lxt platform in 2005 when they were basically the first LiPo battery system out along with the bulky Milwaukee v28. I added the multitool 10 years in [2015].

Corded I have 2 harbor freights. The blue one with yellow switch for variable speed and the Red one with single speed. They always do the job.

I realize it is a tool I do not use very often and am puzzled that I have 3 of them.

My boss has a really nice corded Bosch starlock that does the job nicely. Also like the corded Dremel brand ones. I’ve personally got a cordless one, Makita LXT

The first one I ever bought worked great until my son got hold of it to remodel his wood porch. Burned the sucker out the second day he used it.

Don't cover up the air vents with yer big mitts . They get hotter than a 2 dollar pistol real quick !

I know what you are saying about the cost of the Fein,...but my philosophy is buy once cry once. I am a gal I bought the Fein and I love it! It can do so many things with all of their different blade types. As a matter of fact when I have had contractors come to my home they often borrow it and remark how great it is compared to the one they have. One of the best tool investments I have ever made.

I love(d) my Makita until it broke a part. To be fair, I was using it pretty hard. I ran down to HF and bought the cheap single speed model as I was in the middle of a job. It works fine, but is unbelievably loud, and you see double for an hour after using it. I need to order the $30 part for the Makita, as I really miss that tool. That, or maybe get a Milwaukee M18, as I really prefer cordless tools. Multitools are one of those tools I didn't know I needed until I got one.

I have both I also compared how they work. Ok My90's cost was 400, I can say now It does not work a 180 dollars better unless you use it on a regular basis.

I have the cheapie vari-speed HF model, but goofing with the hex bolt blade holder reminded me too much of the 1970's, I spoiled myself and upgraded to the Hercules, which works great, for eighty bucks.

Time to go online to HD, buy a $200 battery charger kit and you get the M18 multitool free, I love mine.
