Oscillating Whatchamacallit ID

Can anyone tell me what this contraption might be called or used for? The shaft moves back and forth as you turn the handle. Something that followed me home in a box of other stuff I picked up at an auction.

I think it is most likely a part of something else and may not be too readily identified because we have no idea what the parent machine was used for.

All by itself, fidget spinner was a good guess. Made me laugh.

Thanks all. It don't think it matched up to anything it came with. I think it was a home made thingie. It was covered in years of greasy dust (or dusty grease). It works well as a fidgit spinner. Probably part of our whatnots collection and future item in our estate sale to make someone else wonder what the heck is it.

Sometimes what is is what you use it for.

Looks like a coil winder for small electromagnets. Mount the empty reel on the shaft, attach wire and wind away.
