I am looking for a basic scan tool for the service van. I am finding this model at all different prices. One seller is Autel. Does Autel make this for OTC? One seller lists the Brand as autel and the model as OTC3111pro. The prices for these sellers is MUCH less than regular tool vendors are selling it for. Are these legit? Anyone order one?

Need one asap because my Innova got stolen and need a new one

YES !

Autel is kind of hit and miss. Their top of the line MaxiSys have gotten a lot of good reviews. The middle of the line and down, not so much.

Review have found that the lesser units, may handle basic powertain code reading, but "don't play well" with air bag and anti-lock systems on all cars, especially European.

It is 2016. What does this tell you ?

I think that's made by Actron, not Autel.

CONCUR ! Look like a CP9580A. "On sale" for $110

You have to wonder about software updates that state "Software is compatible with Windows XP 32 bit only, Vista, and 7 (32 and 64-bit)"

No Win 8 or 10 !

The Actron 96xx series appears to be a bit newer, but again there are no software updates for post 2013MY vehicles. The Actron models should be be better at handling more European cars and more ABS systems simple because it is designed by Bosch.

If it's the same as CP9580A, then it's the same as Matco MD1400. I bought the md1400 off eBay from this same seller and it works great. It's an older model that was burned in 2013, but it's brand new. That's why it's so cheap. I can confirm it works on 98 GMC Sierra, 2006 Jeep Cherokee, 2007 Chevy trailblazer, and 2012 Nissan Frontier. Just throwing it out there as an option. Comes with usb for updates online. For what I use it for its great. $65 can't beat it.

I bought the OTC3111pro from amazon.ca for around $180 about 2 years ago. That was the best price I have found. I have used it a bunch and so far have not come across a car it would not scan. I have used it on a bunch of GM trucks, 2006 Subaru, and bunch of VW's. I have been very happy with the tool. It will tell you which monitors have run which is a nice feature. It also graphs live data but only one PID at a time. I did wish it had a mis-fire counter on it rather then just give you P0300 - random mis-fire.

It is the same tool as the Actron. Erik O from South Main Auto has some videos which he uses the Actron as a quick scan tool if he does not want to break out the Snap On.

I have spoken to my Snap-On dealer for a used Solus or a new Ethos Tech since I would like a scanner with bi-directional control and a larger screen for graphing data.

I would LOVE to have a tool like that, (bi-directional, graphing). Tablets are SO CHEAP these days (8" Amazon Fire 10 - $230) I don't know how Snap-On can charge their ridiculous prices for a Verus or Solus tools.

I have yet to find a tool that supports OBD-II Mode $06 or $08 that is less tha $250 !

Saw that recently ! It still PISSES MY OFF, that these companies release these tools with update capability AND NEVER UPDATE THE SOFTWARE ! Heck the new ones sold today have software from 3+ years ago !

I believe but I am not 100% that the big expense is getting proprietary data from the various manufacturers. This is not free and I believe I read somewhere that some want $5k per model for each year.

The basic programming is the same (I was curious and did a little bit) but the descriptions need tedious data entry. So I think once they have a software engine working they don't update it for a while.

Once I did my little programming I could read basic data stream and codes, but I could not find any way to look at extended data for my cars.

Again it is a guess, an educated one, but only a guess.

In regards to the Actron working better on Eurpoean cars, I'd be surprised. The Matco, OTC and Actron tools all appear to be identical. Additionally OTC is part of SPX which is owned by Bosch, so not sure why the OTC wouldn't work well on European vehicles.

Hey all, this is my first post, nice to meet you all.

I purchased the Matco MD1400 a few months ago and I've used it on a 2009 Honda Accord, 1999 Nissan Altima, 1998 Volvo S70 and a 2009 Mini Cooper. It's been a great little machine.

I have a question about the updating of the software. OTC says that the latest software on this tool is 2B4C. And when you attempt to update via Matco Launchpad, you're told that your tool has the latest version of software.

But, on the ACTRON 9580A and the OTC 3111PRO both have the recent update 6A4D. I think this proves that 9580A and the 3111PRO are using the same board and updates. So their updates "should" be interchangeable.

Has anyone gone through the software in these tools to see if they're all the same? Has anyone tried to "force" a 9580a or 3111PRO update onto their MD1400? And if so, how would one go about that! Thanks.

This is my MD1400 information:
MATCO MD1400
SW ID: 2B4C
HW VER: 02
BOOT VER: 01
PROD ID: 21
BOARD ID: 25
BURN DATE: 05/31/13
BURN LOC: 11

edit: I found some file sizes... they all seem to be in the same ballpark...
