OTC Ball Joint Super Set - review

With all the threads on clean, shiny tools sitting in the boxes, I thought I would share some pics of downright dirty and hard working tools and give some feedback on a recent tool acquired - OTC Ball Joint Super Set. I bought the ball joint set to be able to do ball joints and u-joints on my Land Rover Discovery.

The set is very high quality and in use did not flex, bend or show any signs of wear on the C clamp, the drive screw or the pushers, receiver cups. Due to clearance issues on the lower ball joint, I did have to grind down with my dremel about 3/8" off one of the receiver cups. This was my first time doing ball joints of this type and the job took me about a total of 2 days to finish. I lost/wasted quite a bit of time with getting the knuckles to break the taper joints and modding the receiver cup for install of the lower ball joint.

The knuckle taper joints lost out to my 10lb sledge. A BFH really is the trick sometimes! :lol_hitti

Here are some pics in action. :)

As a novice weekend wrench, pretty pleased that I conquered this job.

wow... you are doing good job...

i am always use Miller tools (chrysler special tools to do the jobs like ball joint or U-joint.) it is worth to have right tools than damage new part or even worse hurt someone (myself too)

This has to be a first; someone showing actual work being done in their shop with their tools....instead of the usual posts showing tool box drawers full of nice, clean, never used SO tools...LOL

You know it! I do use my tools all the time, and sometimes dad will be using my tools out my box to do something, and he likes to "stack wrenches" to get added leverage, and all mine are pretty chrome SO's, and I always kinda cringe when he does it (usually leaves a very small mark), but sometimes we're on time crunches, so I stay quiet

SO seems to have a 'master' kit, themselves: <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/SP2p--b9KGI&hl=en"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/SP2p--b9KGI&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>

Thanks for the vote of confidence guys. I have a few more projects upcoming so I will make sure to post up some more working tool threads.

Those are the AC Hydraulic jack stands. The last thing I ever wanted to skimp on was jack stands. I really like them and they are way overbuilt. I got mine with the optional flat post tops and rubber pads.
