Recently, I inquired about Flat and Curved Pry Bars. I wondered about Indexible Pry Bars and see the usefulness of this type. I was looking for a decent set, not crossing the hitting the pro budget. For the typical DIY, I found OTC and Gearwrench on eBay. Which set is better to go with? For the price, are both brands made in Taiwan?

Who knows?
I had an OTC model that was about a foot long.

I didn't like it. Felt cheap to me. Didn't like the knurling on that particular one either. I wound up giving it away.

I can't comment on the Gearwrench offerings, but I like the SK indexing pry bar I have.

I don't know about the OTC but I have the gearwrench extendable one and I can't believe how strong it is. I have pulled on that thing like a bear with it extended all the way and it takes it every time, as well as it should cause thats what it was made for. The tip also seems to hold up well, it hasn't curled at all. Seems like the latest OTC offerings are on par with Harbor Freight, SK's might be worth a look though, I like their stuff.

I got the ones made by gearwrench last week. I got the 8" and 16" for smaller stuff (both made in china). I also got the two that they make that are extendable and indexable. 18" to 29" and 29" to 48" (both made in Taiwan). I am industrial tech at a corrugated box plant. I probably won't use them much but I can see where they would come in handy somtime. The ones that are extendable are a lot more heavy duty than I thought they would be, the larger one probably weight 10 lbs. I paid 165 last week with a 25% off zoro code. I'm still getting my student discount from SO and could ha e gotten the 3 piece set they offer for 185 plus tax but for the amount that I will be using them I couldn't justify the SO price tag.

I've got the 3 pc GW set and do like it. Once you have that adjustability it's hard to go back to fixed pry bars (but they still have their place of course).

I always find it cheaper to buy the sets compared to buying each one individually. Most of my pry bars are less than 36" inches. Should I pick up a two-piece 8" and 16" this time around? I'd like to go with the Taiwan-Made one as a couple of crowbars I purchased from Harbor Freight are Made in China. Variety is nice. :D Thanks

Take a look at Mayhew Dominator series. For about the same price of the Indexible pry bar, you can get a set from Amazon.com and these are made in USA.

Thanks, but I couldn't find Indexible Pry Bars in Mayhew's Dominator Series. These Indexible Pry Bars have its perks

I found Crescent Code Red as well, but most of the reviews on Amazon are a hit or miss

Found a nail puller type by Gearwrench, but not so commonly used

I received the 2-pc Gearwrench Set today $50, Made in China, not sure how long ago they changed the COO. Is there one size I should look into?

Do most opt for the extendable pry bars now? Or just the fixed-sizes?
