A majority of us are car guys with car issues and that is what we use our garage for on here

Is there anyone that is actually using there garage on here other then for cars....like strictly for something else...not a half and half deal

It's not a garage, it's a workshop. Garages are for parking cars in, I never park anything in mine unless I'm working on it, cept the bike.

A car has only been in my garage once. I allowed my wife to put her mini cooper in there for 2 weeks during christmas one year because we were out of town. It was a one time deal and will not happen again anytime soon (until I get a C5  ).

We made a deal before the closing on our first house... I get full control of the garage and what goes in it, she has full control of the house and all the decorating ****. We are both happy and it has worked out great. :bounce:

that is exactly the deal my wife and I have. She needs written permission (in triplicate) to gain access to the garage. Actually, for that matter, she needs concurrence from me for any house decisions too!
She does have carte blanche on the grocery shopping though....as long as she buys 2 ply TP and not the cheap stuff! :lol_hitti

Man, I hear ya!
A guy around the corner from me built an extra large garage when he built his house. Pretty tall too, he had a 4-post lift in there.
His business transferred him & he moved away (his lift too  ). The new owners use it to store their inlaws **** that they were storing in a storage unit...the whole garage is full of ****. They don't even park one car in it.

Doesn't it just kill you when you see a garage filled with bikes, yard sale stuff and other worthless junk to the point you can barely walk through it! A guy I work with moved into his house 7 years ago. 90 % of the boxes and junk he set there the day he moved in are still there. He has never had a car in his garage.

I agree with Reflexx

Garage
1984 mustang shell - $200 (being generous)

Driveway
2001 Sable - say $9,000
2004 Liberty - say $13,000

Then again, it is my little workshop and I would not want it any other way in my current house (prefer outbuilding with attached 3 car garage, but money does not grow on trees.. damn it, dad was right)

My Dad has a 2 car garage on the their house that he uses strictly for his wood working stuff. They've had several houses over the years and all have been used for wood working stuff. It's a wonder I ever got into cars... I could never use the garage when I was younger. No cars have ever set foot in it...well except for one day in sub-zero weather when my CRX alternator decided to die... he felt bad and moved his stuff to one side of the garage.

Once I'm done my garage, he's building a detached garage 2 car...but with NO garage doors!

Haha no garage doors... go figure. You should convince him too for moving in larger equipment.

He claims he'll use the attached 2 car for bigger stuff. I think he'll have a set of double doors, which for most furniture, is big enough. I guess in scheme of things, garage doors are pricey when compared to a regular double door.

I think it should all be separated...cars in garages...and a separate building or area for everything else...all car related in the garage

Sheds are a beautiful thing

I can't fit anything in mine anymore (too many tools), so I guess it is officially a shop. I'm working to change that though.

As a kid, I saw my mother use the garage once, & that was when we moved into the house & the garage was still empty in 1971. After that, it was loaded with **** year after year, until I finally got a car to work on in 1983. I cleaned it out, which was an all weekend job, & had everything in the driveway. I couldn't believe all of it fit inside when I saw it sprawled out. Funny thing happened though, as I was sweeping the floor I noticed 2 old ladies rummaging through the **** in the driveway. I asked "What are you doing?" & the reply was "Oh, we're sorry, we thought it was a yard sale."

remind him that one day that property is going to get sold, and when it gets sold a garage size building will be worth more with garage doors than without.

I hate it when people turn there garage into another living space...that looks so white trash....they take off the garage door and put up siding with windows....really takes away from the house and the value

Gotta have room to park the vehicles in there.

I vacuum mine at least twice a month because of dog hair and dead bugs.

My neighbor has so much **** in his he can't even GET TO the windows that are full of dead bugs and spider webs.

I could be your neighbor. Dead bugs and spider webs add character.

My neighborhood association forbids us to park our own cars in our driveway overnight. This is not all that uncommon in the area. All of the newer houses are getting three to six car garages. They will not let you turn your garage into living space (as if I don't plan on living in my garage). Even what is considered to be major auto repairs are not to be done even within your garage.

Fortunately, my neighbors and I don't do repairs. We do restorations, and build hot rods, and one guy is even building a plane. He claims that he will taxi it out the three miles to the highway and take off at 3AM. I can't wait.

As for myself, I go both ways... I do wood working and automotive stuff. One of these days when time is less scarce, I want to rebuild a woody.

Geez, I had that happen once when I decided to clean & re-organize my garage in a duplex we rented. I started early on a saturday morning & by 10:00 I had people asking how much! And the worst part is that my wife was giving them prices! :wtf:

I even amazed myself that I had that much **** in my garage...but I also had 2 cars stuffed in there, dammit.
