Looks like you are less wet up north than we are down south, road closures are starting down here.
I dunno. It just keeps raining !! I feel bad saying that since it’s been soooooooo dry lately. Our tile lines are running full and the fields are starting to get saturated. No actual flooding yet but the next week may bring 4-5” of rain.

As I type this it’s about to storm like crazy !!

Any update on the 7630?

We had to replant three quarters of corn that got washed out, but we have luckily been missing most of the really big rains, they have gone all around us.

Everyone reading that thinking "3/4 of your corn ?! Wow !!" 480 acres of corn is quite a bit to replant !!!

Dealership couldn't find anything wrong with it so we brought it home. The NASTY loud squeak/rattle we heard went completely away when Dad hit a large bump on the way home. So far it hasn't returned :dunno:

Is it in the back?

Chased a squeal on a new 7920 back in my JD days...finally figured out it was the HVAC fan after thinking it had transmission issues for more time than I care to admit.

Wet wet wet wet. This 10 minute blast netted almost an inch of rain. Sure can do without that. The 6” gutters overflowed on the shop. Never seen that before !!
IMG_1534.jpeg

The gutters in the house also over flowed. Bonkers !!
IMG_1533.jpeg

All the rain is washing the sulfur into the ground and the corn can’t take nutrients up in a timely manner. Time to get out and side dress this stuff as soon as the fields are dry !!
IMG_1539.jpeg

“Is it wet by you ?”
“You tell me. We’re double cropping mushrooms and corn this year.”
IMG_1540.jpeg

New insurance company rules state that I can’t have a stationary fuel barrel closer than 50’ to a building. WTF !? It’s diesel but they don’t care. Switching to a company that will allow it would cost almost $2k/yr more. What to do what to do ?
IMG_1524.jpeg

I asked a series of questions about parking the 4wd, combine and other tractors inside the shed at the same which would have a total of more gallons of fuel in them that that barrel holds and worked my way to asking about a portable fuel trailer and any regulations around them. The guy said they do not regulate things with wheels. Deal. This showed up a few days ago and will live in the same spot as the old stationary barrel. Dumb.

That rain is bonkers. We also have mushrooms growing in our grass here in the sw suburbs. Ran the lawn sprinklers once earlier in the spring to make sure they all work and they have been off entirely since. Saves on the water bill, but man, the grass is growing fast!

We are going camping (well, travel trailer camping) this weekend in southernish MN. Might be playing a lot of cards inside with the kids and drinking a lot of Coors on Friday and sat. Still better than being cooped up at home though, change of scenery is good for the kiddos!

Sometimes the loopholes(ignorance of these companies) is mind boggling!

6" of rain at our place yesterday and today. 3.5" early Wednesday morning, 1/2" throughout the day and then another 2" last night.
I tell people that I'm a bookends kind of thinker. You put the bookends on the shelf and I'll bounce between them but be sure that I'm going to push on them. I'd say this fuel trailer is likely leaning on one of the bookends :lol_hitti

We're supposed to get slammed today with rain. The guessers say between 1-4" so who knows.

After a bit of a pow-wow with the electrician, irrigator guys and power company guys we were given a thumbs up to start the new irrigator.
2024-06-20 09.04.31.jpg

We first flushed the 1100' of pipeline out.
2024-06-20 09.22.47.jpg

Good thing we got it running so we can keep enough water on the field. It'll sit for quite some time as I don't think it'd even make it across the field right now without getting stuck in the mud lol

Looks like most of the really heavy stuff is staying south of us for now.

It was soggy this morning so Miss Lily and I embarked on an adventure and decided to wash Doug, the mini. We recently replaced a hose down in the belly and it was packed full of dirt and goo so as long as we had it all torn apart we decided it needed a bath.
IMG_1545.jpeg

Two hours later we had it looking almost new again. Not sure why I didn’t take a picture but I bet it’s 100lbs lighter.
IMG_1544.jpeg

Fields were passable so we got some side dressing done today. I met Pops in the field with the tender trailer to save time.
IMG_1546.jpeg

Decided to bring a saw with to trim some brush and knock over some swamp trees while I waited for him to get it all empty. Look at that happy chainsaw with its well adjusted chain. It’s a nut short as well. Story of my life 😂
IMG_1547.jpeg

I cut for almost a solid hour while Dad applied fert and I’m pooped. Fat and out of shape is taking its toll 🥴

Not sure why I don't get updates from your thread but I'm caught up now!
Your mini ex makes me want to get one myself. Seems there's a bunch of chinese units in the market that has high review and being just a home owner it does fit the price.

Not a real hilly stretch, but here is a picture of a bald eagle on the old man’s pivot on the home place.

None of our land is flat, hence pivots. The flat landers flood irrigated for years before they switched to pivots. I’ve seen some on some crazy hills.

It’s only been a few weeks but lots has happened out here !!

Pops got the last of the side dressing done and the corn is now over 7’ tall. Bonkers how fast it grows with moisture and a little heat !!
IMG_1560.jpeg

I got the last of the beans sprayed for the 2nd time and they’re fully canopied now. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen beans this nice on our farm.
IMG_1569.jpeg

The fire inspector guy from my new insurance company said I couldn’t have a “stationary” fire barrel within 50’ of a building.
IMG_1570.jpeg

Problem solved. I no longer have a “stationary” fuel barrel. I have a fuel trailer now 😁
IMG_1632.jpeg

The old one is no longer stationary either 😂
IMG_1580.jpeg

Hauled a cute little load of hay to a guy.
IMG_1582.jpeg

And hauled some wood home !!

If I were going to keep that fuel barrel on the back of Walter for very long, I'd add a couple of chains thru the legs..... Even 100 gallons of fuel in it, during a panic stop can set up a heck of a lot of motion due to the surge action.

It was empty up there and I just hauled it to dad‘s place and unloaded it. We’re going to use it as a “I got a good deal on fuel so fill all the barrels up” sort of thing. I have hauled various liquids in various large containers without baffles and it is quite unpleasant.

Picked up some pipes for a project.
IMG_1579.jpeg

Lined 4 of them up and set 3,000ish pounds of wood on them to see how much they deflect. I’d say an acceptable amount.
IMG_1606.jpeg

Ok now let’s build a bridge !!
IMG_1608.jpeg

Load it up on the hay trailer to haul to Dads place.
IMG_1651.jpeg

Rig it up to the loader and unload it.
IMG_1652.jpeg

Set it in place ……
IMG_1657.jpeg

And watch the irrigator go over it. Now I gotta build three more 🥴
IMG_1656.jpeg

2nd long bridge was similar but I refined it a bit.
IMG_1662.jpeg

Cutting pipes for #3 & #4.
IMG_1676.jpeg

#3 & #4 built and loaded up !!

Great idea on those pipe bridges!

That has to be the easiest/cheapest/fastest way to get over those ditches -- I guess necessity is a mother and all that. That was a long load on the trailer behind the pickup -- I hope you were on some straight roads!

We debated doing culverts and dirt but the pipes were the least expensive and probably the quickest. They’re old natural gas line and were $2/ft so I have around $500 in each long one.

Plus the DNR person I spoke with said we’d need a $1200 permit to put culverts in there would have to be “an environmental review” because some turtle uses that ditch to walk around in or something. I had the sense to refrain from point out that turtles have feet and could walk through the culverts or over the top of the new crossing. Didn’t think that’d be helpful lol.

We hauled 4 loads of pipe like that home. The local town cop followed us after the 3rd load and waved when we turned off. The 4th load we put a little red flag on the end of the pipes and he gave a thumbs up when we passed him lol.

Mike, farmers frequently see turtles with feet but office-bound bureaucrats don't. Bureaucrats only see turtles that have retracted heads and feet into their shells. They conclude that headless and legless English turtles use tubes and their American cousins use subways to get around. Obviously those systems require environmental impact studies.

You gotta love small town cops!
All but one of the Albany cops are decent. They’ll watch you roll through a stop sign and wave at you with a smile. The other one followed me and the 1000bu of corn in wagons behind me to the elevator on the far side of town and told me I didn’t come to a complete stop at the three stop signs in town. I smiled and said I’d try to do better. Yeah okay 😂

Thanks for that Bob !! I laughed pretty good 😂

How deep is that ditch? Bridge seems excessive for a little draw like that.

One of my neighbors use to walk his pivot across two sets of bridges that spanned a narrow, deep drainage ditch. It was neighborhood entertainment to drive by after a big rain (it was right off the highway) and count how many bridges he lost.

Then the state build a shoo fly through his field to redirect traffic while the highway bridge was replaced. He took the money the state paid him and bought a second pivot. He now runs two wipers off of the well, one for each eighty, instead of walking over bridges.

You can see the two wipers.

IMG_0880.jpeg

Here you can see the pipe running across the ditch from the well to the second pivot.

IMG_0881.jpeg

He figured that was better than bridges!

This is what we call an accidental test plot. The lighter green rows did not receive any side dress nitrogen because it’s where we ran out on the last field. We shall see just how much of a difference it makes !!
IMG_1681.jpeg

Doing some aphid scouting in the bean fields and I found some rather large ones :lol_hitti
IMG_1697.jpeg

Richmond had it’s town festival so we drug the camper to the in-laws to spend the night after the festivities. Walter didn’t seem to mind pulling the camper lol
IMG_1744.jpeg

Whilst we were making Busch Lights disappear we got to looking at the campers tires and yikes. Cracked up to say the least. We don’t go far or fast but I don’t want the hassle of changing one on the side of the road so I ordered a new set.
IMG_1771.jpeg

Off with the old …..
IMG_1769.jpeg

And on with the new. I went a size larger as they had a 10ply option in that size. The new ones were about 1” taller overall which won’t be a bad thing. It’ll level out a little while being towed and give it a bit more ground clearance for some of the dump spots we drag it to.

Trailer tires are those maintenance item that gets to me with how little we use those tires and yet we are spending all that money to keep them in good shape for when we do pull the trailer. Luckily, I got only 6 of those type of tires now instead of the 468 trailer tires you have!
I’m going to have to walk around and count all the tires around here now :lol_hitti
