Man, I need an RV trip out there for a work vacation. My wife would be over the moon if we did something like that. I just need a 50amp connection.

Here's my resume: I'm getting old, but I can drive tractors, watch people do heavy work, tell great jokes, fetch beer, touch everything I'm not supposed to and provide a reasonable amount of moral support.

Thanks for the updates and the "miscalculated calculations" - LMAO!
My wife is also "over the moon" about the bus and by that I mean she wants to send it over the moon so she doesn't have to see it anymore :bounce: The people we camp with all have FANCY 5th wheel toy haulers with outdoor kitchens and dishwashers. I tell them none of my toys will fit in a camper and I don't need a dishwasher because we burn our dinnerware nightly in the campfire.

You (and anyone else reading this) are more than welcome to come hang out for a while. There are, off the top of my head, at least 7 50amp plugs scattered around the place. There is an RV plug near a levelish spot that even has access to the septic

If I ever have to redo my resume I am putting all that and only that on it :lol_hitti

That's awesome! We're members of this thing called "Harvest Hosts" and have stayed at farms, orchards and wineries all over the place. Some let you pitch in and some want you to buy something, but most just let you park for a night or two and check the place out. We've met some amazing people that way.

I'll PM you if we point the RV that way. Would be great to meet you.

BTW - you're welcome on the resume service. Brevity is always best and will take you far.

After we had the wall secured I got the bus fired up from it's winter nap and moved it in front of the shop to weld the door in.

I think one of your cows may have gotten out at some point & attempted to pinstripe your bus with poop. :bounce:

I was just through MN this weekend, and thought about stopping on the way back down but ended up detouring over to South Dakota. Remind me again roughly what town you are near?

I was talking to a guy I work with about the Jacobs 6A chuck I recently purchased and it lead to a 25 minute discussion about what was the best drill chuck. The next day he brought in a nice set with a Jacobs 11n, 14n, 16n, 18n, and a 1" capacity 20n !!!!! After looking them over I decided the 14n would serve my purposes nicely. He said he had a few "laying around" with an 2MT mount as he just got a new lathe with a 4MT deal so no need for the "little" 2MT ones. It looks like a monster next to the 6A and the 3/8" Rigid !!
42764203301_29926dd31f_z.jpg

I am incredibly impressed with the clamping force this this has. On dads drill press sometimes the chuck slips a bit on bigger bits. This thing is sure a beast !!
42714399592_81e78a690e_z.jpg

We had some NASTY wind and about 1.5" of rain last night. The corn blew over a bit from all the wind !!
42714399822_6aa4cfc2c8_z.jpg

The jobsite van we have was getting quite messy and I slipped on a piece of conduit laying on the floor so it was time. In a rather angry mood I threw stuff away and organized the snot out of it. In went nice plastic trays and out went the cardboard boxes that were falling apart. BIG improvement !!

Before
42714399812_8dc3872ecc_b.jpg

After ... as if I had to clarify which was before and after. Ha. Feels good to have a clean workspace again !!

Well ****. My sincere apologies. I passed right by. Probably within 5 miles. I have family north of Alex.
Stop on out sometime !! The beer is cold, the chickens are warm and we'll probably be here.

Holy ****! I'll be driving right by you this Saturday on our way to Baudette and beyond.
I'll wave as we go by! :moon: :bounce:
Wow. Driving from AZ to Baudette ?!?!?! By the time you get near us you will certainly need to stop for a break !!

Great thread. I have ignored it for a long time thinking it was another guy in Pennsylvania building his dream garage. I was bored and finally opened it. What a surprise. I grew up in Southern California in the 70s, where my dad was the local DeLaval guy. I went with him on many service calls. He serviced all the dairy farms in the area. If the farmers had problems while milking, they called him. He got out of the business about the time automation got going in the milk parlors and started fabricating the stainless traps, receivers, bulk storage tanks. Neat to see how things have changed since then. Thanks for sharing what you do.
I have always wanted to know more about the chicken farms - several of them here in Western Colorado. You nailed it. Thanks for taking the time to share all that you do.

Haha. Far from my dream garage and far from Pennsylvania :lol_hitti

I grew up using equipment that I'm sure your Dad sold/installed/serviced back in the day. Our parlor was a hodgepodge of Surge/DeLaval/Universal/Boumatic .... a little of everything and it seemed to work great for what it was.

It is neat to see how far things have come and although it seems like there's no way it can get better than having robots milk and feed the cows, scrape the manure and tell you when to breed them there is always the "next big thing" coming.

Thank you for finally opening the thread and following along :bounce:

The dirt work guys got the sand laser leveled and packed today. Seems like it's not that big of an area but once the building goes up the 60x152 area will seem quite large I'd imagine.

The skid loader was behaving like the fuel filter was dirty so I changed it this morning. Good grief !!
41010568550_304a0391bf_z.jpg

The Co-Op delivered the top dress spreader to put the 2nd round of fertilizer on the corn. Dad will do this while I begin to rake hay.
41010568330_a972bd216d_z.jpg

The 884 is a nice match for the side rake. I used the side rake to roll over a pair of windrows at a time that Dad raked together yesterday.
41010568520_afdaf558ea_z.jpg

When I was done re-raking already raked rows I hooked onto my cart rake and doubled rows up that hadn't been raked yet.
41010568500_120e648422_b.jpg

Doubling them up does two things, it rolls the hay onto dry ground and it combines two rows together so it takes less time to bale.
42820841361_b6622628f7_b.jpg

Dad cut an extra row by the meadow so I raked it single. This rake has a manual shutoff valve by each lift cylinder so you can use only one side if you need too.
28947886528_626891c9ba_b.jpg

Well damnit. All that nice hay raked and it started to rain !!! We got about 1/4" total making the hay WAY too wet to bale. We were not suppose to get rain until tonight so it was unexpected and unwelcomed !!

Daycare called and said Leo had a temp so I had to go get him. He's got 3 teeth coming in at the same time so I'm sure he's a little grumpy. We lounged on the new couch and watched Shameless. Good thing he doesn't really know what's going yet, not really a family type show.
28964644498_732b9619d8_b.jpg

He seems fine to me :lol_hitti
41027023280_c3055e3242_z.jpg

Dad sprayed the bean fields a few days back and you can see the carpet of weeds turning yellow. Die weeds die !!!
41027023590_02926d115c_b.jpg

It was raining like crazy this morning so I decided to work on the chicken barn roof cleaner/blower deal. I flipped it over so we could take the intake apparatus off.
41936658235_f955829c3e_z.jpg

It was surprisingly easy to remove !! I'm okay with that !!
41027023120_583e5a7765_b.jpg

We got all the extra stuff removed and put a "new" axle under it. These wheels are larger so it won't drag in the shavings. Plus, it has road bearings so it can be brought somewhere without worrying about melting something or blowing up the tires.

Those hay rakes work really well, don't they? Looking at your photos, it looks like perfectly clean ground after you've gone past.

I couldn't say it better myself. We are always doing something it seems and we rarely take time to look back and see what we've accomplished. With the family, farm and every other aspect of life it seems things just get lost in the hustle and bustle. After reading your post we went through a bunch of pictures of the kids and stuff we've caught them doing and it gave us all a few really good laughs. Thanks for that :)

This hay rake has a bunch of good stuff going for it. You can drive as fast as you can hang on and it'll still do an awesome job, it does a nice clean job, it's lightweight, it's ground driven, and it was relatively inexpensive (as far as a piece of farm machinery goes that is).

It'll look big until you fill it up!

The 884 looks nice. We had some hay get hit (very last of first cutting) the other day. 2 95+ degree days here should have that sorted out, although it ***** to loose any it's certainly inevitable.

Rafters are getting delivered Wednesday and the concrete guys are suppose to start doing their thing tomorrow I guess. It's gonna get filled with POOOOOOOOOP !!!!

The 884 seems like it's in okay shape HOWEVER it seems to be the tractor that doesn't age .... it had 2718.1hrs when we got it last fall annnnnnnnd it still has 2718.1hrs on it after quite a bit of use :lol_hitti

It's been a slow couple days around here. I started finishing out the front area of the bus with some carpet squares. The idea is to lift the drivers seat and put it everywhere up front. Should look nice when it's done.

Well back when I was looking for another drill chuck I threw a lowball bid on a few on eBay and wouldn't you know it I am the proud owner of a 3/4" Jacobs 18n for $45 shipped. It is in decent shape and runs out nice and true with no noticeable whoeble-wobble. Boy oh boy I thought the 14n was a monster .... this thing is crazy ... I didn't really need another but I think I can get $45 for the 14n so it'll be a wash in the end. Might take a few decades to sell it though at the rate stuff leaves the yard around here :lol_hitti

I spent a few days out in Lisbon ND again wrapping some stuff up. One of them was the IT corner. Everything is finally mounted in the place it'll stay forever and ever (yeah right). I got a bunch of odds and ends finished up and as I was packing up the owners came to me and asked it I would put WiFi and some cameras in the shop as well as in one of their homes. Here we go again ...
42212538284_182d9b90a6_b.jpg

When I got home I noticed a pile of rafters had showed up for the manure storage building.

Tonight I sprayed for mosquito's again. The only dead mosquito is a dead one ... the world would have been better off if Noah would not have let them on his boat :lol_hitti

We were FINALLY able to get the hay baled that we cut what seems to be weeks ago. It's been crazy humid/cloudy and has rained on and off since it got cut. The fields were close so we drove the skiddy back and forth to the field instead of hauling it.

Anyone need a good use tire ? I'd let it go cheap :lol_hitti
41147923320_4822319fae_z.jpg

Yesterday after the hay was home I went a little nuts in the bus removing seemingly worthless stuff .... like the heaters (NO desire to camp in the cold so out they come) and the drivers seat. Seems like a good place to put a cooler with a cushion to sit on
29085833658_183d8a4d7c_z.jpg

The bus is going to get WAY better mileage now with all that weight removed !!!

Last night we had a bunch of friends over for a bonfire. The mosquito spray I put down Thursday night worked wonderfully. There were a few mosquitoes around dusk and NOTHING before and after that. Awesome !! I trimmed the pine trees and burnt the branches before people got here. It sure put on a smoke show :drink:

Looking good. Sometimes trailers are more of a pain than they're worth
Once we run out of spare trailer tires we're going to try a set of 10ply truck tires on a set of rims. I know a few people that run them on their hay and silage trailers and say they last forever. It's worth a shot as a new rim and used truck tire are less than a new implement tire.

The dinette is out and the new wall is in. We're going to put a 18" deep butcher block counter top along the left side to be used as a table/dining area.

The carpet is down in the front and the A/C is where I'd like it to be while we're camping. I need to figure out a way to make the drivers seat removable and still safe and such.

Reminds me of when I washed my '66 F100 truck seat one summer day, back when I was 18 or so. I had the seat out drying in the sun, when Mom came out and asked if I could run to the store.
I tried a 5 gallon bucket & that didn't work, so I threw a lawn chair in there & drove to the store. The first time I hit the brakes, I almost ended up on the floor under the steering wheel! :D I took it much easier on the brakes for the rest of the trip.

I think I'm going to have to leave the lawn chair as the seat. Seems like it could be a good time !!!

Please give that John Deere a coat of wax! Too expensive to fade away.
It really REALLY needs it too .... It's a 1994 John Deere 7400 with 9,000ish hours ... it's worth $32-35k on a good day .... doesn't mean it shouldn't be waxed and look nice though ...

The neighbor cut the alfalfa around the chicken barn a few days back and baled it up today. Well, actually a different neighbor baled it up. I rode along to grab any rocks that the rake rolled out of place so the baler didn't ingest them and cause problems !!
42959844452_a5b8ab9782_z.jpg

The ol' 763 Bobcat was quite tippy with two of them out front ...
42290889964_baee2205ea_b.jpg

Five 4'x5' round bales total. It's a couple hundred dollars worth of hay. I have no need for alfalfa hay and this neighbor helps us with odd stuff here and there so I gave it to him. He's got 40 dairy cows and it'll get fed right away.

They're standing on the thicken'd footer. It looks like it'll be 10" of concrete about 5' wide. Good grief. I told them to "Jump up and clap your hands". This is what they did :bounce:
