Congrats on the new camper! Looks a lot like the Coachmen bunkhouse we have.

Remember...a happy wife is a happy life!
I couldn't agree more. A happy wife is a good thing to have !!!

Save the counters from the bus and convert it over to toy hauler and camper tow vehicle. Keep one bunk in the bus for sleeping when Mrs. doesn't like this idea :)
Although I think this is the best idea I've heard yet it directly conflicts with the above comments :lol_hitti

Enjoy the new camper; it was nice of strangers to lend you theirs!
We plan to use it for a night this weekend to see how it all works. The loaner camper was a really good test for us as to use. We learned we need bunk space for everyone without setting up sleeping areas on the dinette and couch and such.

The filter is filled with varnish from old gas that most of the aromatics have evaporated from. I'm a firm believer in using Stabil fuel additive in anything that's going unused for more than 2 weeks. They even have a product that protects when using fuel that's oxygenated with ethanol, which is clear by the way. Glad to hear a good samaritan stepped in to lend a hand and save your trip! Nice trailer you found, too.

BTW, QST stickers showed up last evening. Thanks for the forwarding.
I will be using Stabil more often out here. It's incredibly for all my things with motors to sit for more than a few weeks at a time. The skid loader starts every other day but the mini-van/ranger/Jeep/farm truck/bus will often sit for a month without moving.

I second that. Stabil is great. I use ethanol in all my old Farmalls and the H that last ran two years ago started right up with no Stabil and no issues.

I sure don't like a fuel filter on the suction to the pump. Vapor lock waiting to happen.

Did you really take all the chicks to a BBQ? What a nice guy!
I put the filters before the pump because I was worried the pump would get FUBAR'd by the goober in the tank going through it. I've started it and ran it for a total of 4-5hrs on a high idle since putting the filters in and it starts and runs like a champ so far I guess :dunno:

I imagine that once they're gone the chickens are all slathered with Sweet Baby Rays and cooked on a cast iron griddle and then slathered with Sweet Baby Rays again and consumed by the dozens. I don't know how else you'd eat them

The first link has a TON of great suggestions with the second link being one of them. I was talking to Pops today and he mentioned that we still had a 40' semi trailer tarp I could use as a camper cover when it's parked. I think I'm going to give it a try as it won't be inside all summer. Over winter it'll get parked under a roof but it'll sit outside all summer probably.

Congratulations on the new camper.. first time posting here. I really enjoy following along..

In regards to the water heater on your camper... Please don't forget to drain it at the end of use. I accidentally left water in mine for a week after I used it and now my hot water stinks. ::puke:: really need to fix that..

I had a school bus once, I had planned to make a camper. Like your wife my gf didnt like the idea.. they had fun with it at the demos...

Thank you for taking us along...

It's a good day when another Mike makes an appearance

I am quite anti-plumbing in an RV actually. Tons more work and lots more to go wrong. That being said, I'm sure the plumbing is going to get used at some point in time. The tip to drain it out each time is a good one. If not only to prevent it from getting gross to prevent it from freezing when we ultimately forget to do it and let is sit over winter.

If'fin you'd like another bus I know where you could get one :bounce:

I've put 25-30 miles on the upgraded filter setup and no hiccups so far. I can only imagine how nasty the filters are getting but they seem to be doing their job. The bus is idling QUITE high though. Not sure why but I'll fiddle with the carb sometime.

It's been a busy few days out here. Thursday I installed a NanoStation Loco M2 on a dairy barn. The attic sure is nice looking.
48343112146_2a77eb7a49_z.jpg

And hot. OMG. The insulation was 115F and when I pointed it at the roof steel it read 135F. It was probably 85F outside and really sunny so it all makes sense. I was a puddle after only a few minutes at a time up there. Good grief.
48343253147_fa0853178c_c.jpg

The antenna looks nice if I do say so myself. It is pointing at a buddy antenna about a mile to the North and will be bringing internet to the dairy barn from the owners house.
48343253137_8abdf051b4_z.jpg

The top screws go into a 2x4 with that grey electrical schmoo under each hole to keep Mother Nature out. I usually use a 2' piece of 1/2" flexible EMT to transition from the roof under the ridge cap and around the sharp piece of tin sticking out under the ridge cap. Hasn't failed me yet.
48343253387_2a08911214_z.jpg

A few miles down the road we had more guys doing maintenance on a GEA 60 stall robotic rotary parlor and I had some extra time at the end of the day so I stopped in to help for a bit. I don't have much experience with the rotary as a product but GEA has mostly used components in the control module that are in many other types of milking systems as well. Basically, I don't know how to put all the pieces together but I can rebuild any of them if they're laying on a bench. I did the bench work while someone brought me stuff.
48343112206_98c0022a70_z.jpg

Friday morning I started by washing the water sight tubes for the entire barn. They get this nasty rusty buildup on the inside that needs to come out. I guess it doesn't "have to" come out but it looks better and has to work better when it's all clean. There is some extra goober on them because I soaked them overnight .... for a few weeks .... and something started growing :wtf:
48343112271_dfb028fcf4_z.jpg

Squeaky clean and good as new !!
48343253012_18c20e6154_z.jpg

The chicken barn now has a toilet for all to use. This will make bringing the kiddos out there to help MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH easier !!!!!!
48343253182_d5d3e96218_z.jpg

Speaking of kiddos Mr. Leo helped me loosen the feed up while filling the feeders up. It is very powdery and gets bound up when it gets dropped in. A couple taps with a rubber mallet loosen it right up. He has a blast smacking at it for a bit :lol_hitti
48343253057_c121c8aff8_z.jpg

The needy cattle need more feed so in goes another 7,000lb load !!
48343111871_9751e03d83_z.jpg

It was suppose to rain Saturday morning so I ran and got the baler before it did. We had Arnolds in St. Martin go through it for us so we wouldn't have any surprises when we went to use it. It was a little bas%#rd when Dad tried baling for a neighbor last week. He said it kept missing bales and was not working well. At least I got it home before it rained :headscrat
48343112246_53578fecf7_z.jpg

While it was raining Dad and I switched the new combine over from soybeans to wheat. It's a fair bit of work but should be worth it in the end. It'll do a better job of thrashing and will not beat the straw up as much. There are a number of setting/speed changes made to the internal components but the largest change is to swap out the concaves.
48343253282_12382989ee_z.jpg

These are the corn/soybean concaves. The spacing between the wires is much larger than the wheat concaves.
48343253077_314f1e471f_z.jpg

This is the rotor, or part of it. It's the rotor that rubs the crop between itself and the concaves to thresh the grain. These teeth do the rubbing and they have an angle to them that makes the crop move rearward.
48343253317_fb957447ff_z.jpg

Not sure if the difference is visible but the wires are smaller and the spacing is much closer together on the wheat concaves. We'll see how it does I guess !!
48343112106_512511dc3c_z.jpg

We got our first use out of the camper on Saturday night. The town my wife grew up in had their town festival and parade and we brought the camper to her parents place so we could stay later. We can see the 10PM fireworks very well from their yard and thought it was a good excuse to use the camper. The ol' 95' Ford farm truck didn't hardly notice it back there

If you use the same quality zip ties I do I'd be a little worried about the antenna haha. SS hose clamp or U bolts would probably be better there? Or maybe the zip ties were just for aiming and you have it buttoned down good now.

You need a “panel thumper” on that feed chute to keep it flowing.
It's only really the starter feed that causes issues. The rest are fine for the most part and flow freely.

Yeah I put a SS hose clamp on it before I left. I took a picture to show the customer what it all looked like before I did it all permanent in case he didn't like it or something dumb.

You guys don't let anything slide do you :lol_hitti

I've changed out concaves and bars a few times, and even though I'm very mechanically inclined( professionally), how combines work without crushing the seeds amazed me, especially at the speeds and volume they're capable of. 55 and 95 models. My Uncle bought one of the first Titans sold in western NE and it was just amazing compared to the 95.

Hello sorry that it took me so long to get back about the sealer for the camper roof. The one I like to use is Dicor ultra sealant self leveling that one will flow and the other one is Dicor lap sealant non leveling non sag. When you wash the roof before you seal it use Ivory dish soap it does not leave any residue behind. When you check the windows my friend that taught me RV repairs said to clean the window first, then use starter fluid to soften the old sealer and use a plastic putty knife to clean it up.If you need to reseal them use silicon, cut the front of the tube and run it backwards pushing on the tip, don't drag it like you would normally do.Pushing on it will help it get in better. I hope this helps you out. Craig

Lol yeah! Zip ties and me have a love/hate relationship.
I love them for adjusting and such but they get swapped out with SS hose clamps 100% of the time before the install is complete !!

Swapping out concaves? Like changing several automatic transmissions.

Great work.
I'd rather do this. It was rather tight in there but wasn't too bad. We've never done it before and it was easier than I was expecting I guess.

Not too long ago I swapped out the "stock" rasp bars for Ausherman bars. Of course this is in a conventional.
Good grief you have to take the feeder house off to work on the cylinder ?!?!

The largest combines today will each eat 3-4 Deere 8820's for lunch and spit them out. Absolutely crazy how large things are today. The 2388 we purchased went cheap at an auction North of Grand Forks, ND because it was too small for anyone up there. Down here it is quite a large machine and we're glad to have it.

I looked it all over and things look to be in good shape but I'd like to redo all the seals soon to prevent any issues. I'll pick up some of each of those products to have on hand. Seems like a good idea.

A few days back the neighbor cut the hay around the chicken barn (we give it to him for nothing for helping us in the barn once in a while) and I decided to mow around the barn to tidy things up. It was getting a bit shaggy ....
48365310792_50ef519126_z.jpg

Looks a little better

Baby chicks are here again !! Flock #11 has landed.
48365175131_47e3df9054_z.jpg

The kiddos came to investigate the new additions !!
48365175381_8fa1ea4fdc_z.jpg

Leo made a friend and was grumpy when I told him he had to leave it in the barn :lol_hitti
48365175351_80703f706c_z.jpg

Off to get some hay raked around 11am.
48365175156_395d2266bb_z.jpg

A gravity box with a flat tire is sitting where the hay needs to go. Out comes the Bead Cheetah to set the bead again !!
48365310522_96d110b7d4_z.jpg

Loading a semi with soybeans while the hay dries.
48365310562_6c9be5f0a8_b.jpg

Pops out in the meadow bailing some first cutting. No rain on this hay will make it actually worth something to sell !!
48365175286_c4c4423381_z.jpg

Thought this was neat while I was sitting in the wheeler with the buildings and stuff in the background.
48365175256_90f9457949_z.jpg

All baled up and ready to get loaded.

should make a template of a baby chick and spray paint a chick on the barn for every flock thru the barn like a fighter with action marks.

Most around here would be pretty excited for some hay that actually got to dry. Looking like a good time out there!
We've had the baler going pretty good the last few days. Dad got a few hundred total bales of custom work done as well as the 71 for us the last few days and it hasn't missed a beat yet. Whoo Hoo for that !! There have been a lot of people in the meadows around here lately but nothing has been 100% cut yet. I have 15 or so acres across the creek I won't get into until late August most likely ....

That is a great idea !! I think I'll spray them on a wall in the control room. Probably better use baby chick yellow :)

X3 it is a neat idea !!

Speaking of tough looking chicks here are a few from the current bunch !!!
48395724492_9e71107231_z.jpg

And here are some of whom I'd imagine to be their cousins. As growers we got the opportunity to buy some of the chicken we produce directly from the plant. The Mrs. and I snagged a box of split boneless chicken breasts, thighs, and a box of chicken tenders. 40lb boxes each :wtf:
48395584851_733a7e8ba0_z.jpg

Friday was actually a pretty decent day compared to a bunch lately. I got to hang some wireless hardware and I made sure to show I use SS hose clamps this time :bounce:
48395585066_f1e9afeceb_z.jpg

I mixed a couple loads of feed on Saturday and Dad tried his hardest to get out of the camera's view but he wasn't fast enough :lol_hitti
48395724687_d2e9600c05_z.jpg

To say this grinder mixer was used when I bought it is a major understatement. It is about worn out. It was new in '91 and used to mix feed for 10,000 pigs from '91 until 2009. 7 loads a day for 18 years. Doing that math it mixed 6.2 million bushels of feed in that time. No wonder it's wearing though and all patched up !!
48395724537_395f1f77cf_z.jpg

There are a few stress cracks forming in the unloading auger as well .....
48395585161_a5ffb8ee7a_z.jpg

Good ol' T-Rex tape. Not meant to be a permanent fix but it'll stop the feed from dribbling onto the ground in the short term.
48395724747_2e7f58911e_z.jpg

I would like to put the dirt higher than the level of the tin so we decided to cut it off a bit.
48395584951_0c2804f9b8_z.jpg

Easiest way I could think of was the cordless grinder with a zip disc on it. It worked VERY well !!
48395724802_d7518f82e3_z.jpg

Next up project is the valve on Dad's bead blaster has been not working properly lately. It is as if whatever pin that goes into the butterfly valve inside was just spinning loosely.
48395724617_93f7ced72d_z.jpg

The butterfly is aluminum and the shaft is steel so I drilled a hole in the butterfly to put a tack weld on to hold it in place.
48395724572_0a9ee786bb_z.jpg

Ok well maybe I'll put a booger weld in it instead. It was really hard to see where I was welding down in the valve. No big deal. Once it's together no one will ever see it in there. Well, no one other than the 6 people other than me that read this :lol_hitti
48395724827_e3113aaacd_z.jpg

Saturday evening Mama Bear and I went to Firefest in Cold Spring MN. We went to the first one 12yrs ago and had a good time. There have been some big artists here over the years. Luke Bryan, Dierks Bentley, Lonestar, Montgomery Gentry, Darius Rucker, and Trace Atkins to name a few .... V.I.P. tickets so we had a decent view and our own line of porta-pots and a beer garden just for us. It was nice !!
48395585271_44b082633e_z.jpg

It is suppose to rain today and the clouds looked extra neat because of it. The wheat is getting close to harvesting as well. Another week or week and a half and we should be combining !!!

Zip Ties and UV light just don't get along!!!!

Yrs ago, I use to install HF and VH redio Eqpt and small satellite stations. As most of the eqpt was installed on roofs, the traditional ZT would last maybe 60-90 days. In those cases, we switched to SS clamps and painted them black. After a while, we found a company in Germany that had Blk SS clamps and would by them 5,000 at a time. Tey will last forever !!!!

Just add another number to the count on the weld.

I for one think it should hold so i don't see a problem.

I'm still working on getting better at welding. You would think it would be easy to weld if you welded a good bit in High School, but after 18 years have passed it just didn't come back that easy. As for the chicken, that wok will do a good job of frying if you go that direction, or it will do good to sear the outside of the meat and then pour some kind of seasoned liquid in the wok to let it simmer over a good fire. Could try your hands at chicken fajita!

I guess I'm 11. But who's counting?

It is really great that you can buy your own product back (same plant anyway).

I studied the chicks and honestly I can't tell them from the other four groups you've shown us. How in the world do you tell them apart? I mean, any chick's I've known really really don't want to be confused with other chicks. You have a job on your hands.

I think I'd have tried a small hole in the aluminum and a self tapping screw. But you're bird poop weld looks pretty good considering the business you are in.

Not sure how to count -- maybe I'm 12 but this is my second visit since yesterday so maybe I'm lucky 13 (?). I won't post again until I have something stupid to share.

Well that last couple of pages was a real rollercoaster. Too bad about the bus, but if it makes you feel better, my mother has some of the same reservations about blue school buses specifically. Some childhood memories or something... I don't know. But Id love to have one for a camper/tractor hauler. Definitely need to add chick marks to the barn wall for a flock count. Glad to see that someone has at least a little bit of good hay this year, its been rough in Iowa as well, and I hear Ohio is absolutely FUBAR. Consider yourself lucky compared to them. I also feel the need to make a disco-skillet soon. maybe my next trip home Ill grab one.

Think you may find time to take a day and get up to Rollag at the end of the month? Ill be up there with a buddy and some family. Should be a good show this year.
