Is the snapon tool painted Gold??!?!!? lol

That conversion does give the camper a lift. There's a lot of offroad campers that has better clearance then a truck! Also what you did was consider a poor man lift kit when I was offroading and I helped several folks lift their trucks the same way. Got to keep the hobbies cheap to afford the steaks and beer!
I was cruising eBay a while back and got it for only a few bucks. It is rather handy !!

I am quite pleased with the lift. I put a few miles on it all once it was done and it seems to pull better as well.

Technically the steaks ARE a hobby as they take a lot of time and don't make money :lol_hitti

And it helps to grow your own steaks. :lol_hitti

Side effect is you know what they ate.
I grow them to my liking

They eat brooms. A few days back the wind blew my broom within licking distance of the bunk and they drug it into the pen and made it gone. All that was left was the bristled part.

We've had a busy few days out here. Did some dirtwork, went camping, did more dirtwork, cleaned out the camper and a whole bunch of other stuff that isn't worth wasting a picture on .... like cutting up 4 dozen green peppers and tomatoes to make fresh salsa or me getting pulled over to be told the tabs on my camper are out of date (Which they weren't !!!)

Friday started with a blown hydraulic hose on the scraper.
48668837602_861cb6f6a8_z.jpg

I bought an 8' hose because that's what it seemed like it should be. Well ... long story SHORT ... it was too short ...
48668681766_cf49e75395_z.jpg

The scraper owner wants to use the scraper next week so I put a few extra hours in after dark.
48668337523_97047cdbca_z.jpg

And found this SWEEEEEEEET sand vein in the hill !! This will save some $$$$ as I won't need to have any sand hauled in for under the concrete floor now !!!
48668337398_fc60840187_z.jpg

We got the ol' farm truck hooked to Mama Bears camper and headed out. This cow path is the reason for the lift kit !!
48668337418_25d731281a_z.jpg

All the camping necessities are packed. Trike, bike, cooler with beverages, and of course the wheel chairs. Wheel chairs make AMAZING campfire chairs. Not sure exactly why but it's fun I guess.
48668681706_f51ccc97f5_z.jpg

I should have snagged a photo facing the other direction. Our 27' camper was the smallest by 10'. This is at one of Mama Bear's uncles cabins. He's got a full blown private campground for us to use with water and a 50a hookup for each parking spot !! A total of 13 campers were there (Space for 20) and most were only a few years old and MASSIVE fifth wheel toy haulers. The bus fit in REALLY well here in years past :lol_hitti
48668337553_95f24900e0_z.jpg

You sure can't beat the view from the campfire !!
48668337293_bdfe318caa_z.jpg

This is the pre-6am crowd. We get up and make fire to cook breakfast on. This is BY FAR the best part of the day. We had a 36" homemade cast iron skillet with 20lbs of bacon in it, a 24" steel skillet with 5 dozen eggs, a dutch oven with 20lbs of sausage, and a whole mess of smaller cast iron pans making french toast once this fire was burned down a bit.
48668337403_8298c9f58b_z.jpg

Well this is something new. I needed a place to empty the various fluids out of the camper when we got home so I backed it into a wheat field and let it all flow out. I guess it worked !!
48668681591_23cd0cc816_z.jpg

Back to work says Leo !! There is more dirt to move !!
48668681721_629d4497b6_z.jpg

The 7630 and scraper are parked in the shop :lol_hitti

When Mama Bear got home with the cubs we watched the chicken trucks for a bit. The littles played in the dirt for a while and we all had a good time. Best day of the flock is this one where they are now someone else's tasty problem
48680415578_e736becd21_z.jpg

It's been a PITA getting the pressure washing rig ready to go after each flock leaves so I decided to make it simpler to mount the pressure washer on the cart.
48680928932_21aa2b7523_z.jpg

This side has a piece of angle iron and a nut ...
48680928917_faf77c9ff2_z.jpg

The other side has a T-Handle on a chunk of threaded rod that goes through holes in the pressure washer frame. I bounced it around a good bit with the skid loader and it is nice and solid !!!

I agree, cooking breakfast (then eating) is the best part.
I like breakfast best of all meals. Actually, if I could have eggs, potatoes and BACON for every meal I think I would. I'd never need to eat lunch or supper !!

Mounting the pressure washer to the trailer should work slick, "necessity is the mother of invention"
We've had it bungee corded and ratchet strapped to the trailer in the past but always spent 20 minutes getting it on there "just right" so it wouldn't fall off and it was always a PITA. This is way easier !!

Nice system you put together for transporting that pressure washer.. Very Nice..
The trailer is what's left of an old JD manure spreader (or fertilizer wagon I forget) and the tote is something I "borrowed" from work. It's not pretty but it does the same thing as the fancy trailer mounted pressure washing rigs. Excluding the pressure washer, which we already had, I think I have $12 for a 2" ratchet strap to hold the tote to the trailer and a few feet of welding wire invested into it. Doesn't get much better than that !!

Thursday was barn cleaning day as it was emptied out Wednesday afternoon. Before the cool cell is shut down for winter it is a good idea to wash it off. There is some special bubbly cool cell washer juice we run through them. I should have waited to take a picture because a little while after this the foam was spilling out onto the driveway so much it was piling up and touching the bottom of the cool cell !!
48691504317_b079034aba_z.jpg

Now that all the bugs are worked out of the 5510 (I hope anyway) it is a MUCH nicer tractor to use in the barn than the 884. The MFWD (4wd for you non farmers) and 500lbs of weights up front make a huge difference.
48691504352_f00598bef9_z.jpg

48691504332_ab44944555_z.jpg

We are done putting black dirt around the hay shed so it's time to seed it !!
48691333641_9ae40e7852_z.jpg

For seed I'm using the winter wheat we harvested a few weeks back from around the stacking slab. There are some soybeans and trash mixed in that was leftover from last fall in the new combine. It'll all grow !!
48691504382_3930e8303c_z.jpg

Dad got the entire barn cleaned out this afternoon. We shuffled cattle around and ended up filling the addition up and I failed to get a picture of the cattle in there yet.
48691333591_ea56039875_z.jpg

We decided to dig out a bunch of the gravel/sand in the hill and top dress all the clay that will not be getting black dirt back over it. We've done this before and it works decent. The sand works itself into the clay and turns into a hard layer that drains well and isn't muddy.

I finally unhooked the camper from the truck and noticed a puddle under the rear diff ...
48699939133_52430c30e0_z.jpg

Seems the rear brake lines waited to rust out until we got home. Talk about lucky !!
48700447997_7625b66f75_z.jpg

A quick run in to Auto Value in Albany and I've got what I need to fix the ol' girl up.
48700276396_4ef091eb38_z.jpg

This hydraulic flare tool was money well spent. In about 10 minutes I had both lines cut and flared. Simply a wonderful tool !!! I don't have any reassembly pictures but it all went together smoothly until I went to bleed the brakes. I busted off the little nut deal on the passenger side and the drivers side one was rusted tight as well. I bled them where they went into the brake drum but the pedal is still rather squishy :dunno:
48699939008_460952b303_z.jpg

Since we had a bunch of clay and gravel available we decided it was time to put another driveway in for the stacking slab. Just in time too as Dad has started emptying it out !!

Looking good. I did all the brake lines on my Chevy in high school...that was fun.

Particularly the one going under the filler neck.

I, too, had to torch two of the bleeders.

That flaring tool has certainly pulled it's worth around here. I've used it a few times and it's been worth it every time !!

I've been out of town for the week working on another robotic dairy. 30+ cameras, 12 access points, 1,200' of fiber optic cable, 11 Unifi Switches, 12,000' of Cat6 and three data racks kept us busy for a while. Hard not to have fun with that kind of stuff to play with :lol_hitti

We finally got some cattle moved into the new barn just before I left for a week for work. They sure do look good in there :bounce:
48728119981_c91f0b7ce5_z.jpg

Monday morning I headed to McIntosh, MN for the week to work on the networking side of the robotic dairy we're helping with. I didn't grab many pictures but I did manage to get one of the battery charging area. There is a pair of 20a circuits powering these shelves. This is about half the chargers on site from the various crews, they seem to bring them all back and throw them on these shelves at night.
48728291882_4e98b3ed44_z.jpg

I brought the Wok along to cook food on for the week. I absolutely am not built to go out to eat at a bar/restaurant for the entire week. Plus then you still need to figure out breakfast and lunch. I volunteered to cook all meals if the other guys provided lunch fixings. I brought 10lbs of bacon, 4 LARGE packages of beef short ribs, a dozen chicken thighs, and a dozen pork chops for dinners along with 15lbs of potatoes to be used wherever. It ended up being a pretty good time !!
48728120041_24b59b72e9_z.jpg

"Cook it until it's all the same color" said one of our techs. I couldn't agree more :lol_hitti
48727791043_bea17a4bce_z.jpg

Best looking 2lbs of bacon I've seen in a while :bounce:
48728291932_242b338bfe_z.jpg

I did get a few things done .... Each rack has 50-80 data lines running into it and try as I may I couldn't figure out a faster way to prep lines for punching into a panel other than one at a time and slow and steady.
48728291787_1d820b439d_z.jpg

I did try a new way of mounting a UAP-AC-M and I think it's a winner !!

So here I am smiling and wondering at the same time, what would you have used to cook with in the past without the wok?

If I had to install those data lines, I'd have to use tweezer due to my fat fingers.......:lol_hitti

Haha. They're not that bad. You get used to it after a few thousand ends :lol_hitti

Then you must have missed this.
The Greenlee cooker made an appearance as well last week. We used the Wok for everything but hot dogs/brats for lunches. The owner of the Greenlee cooker has since made a nice 316SS push rod to better eject the cooked hot dogs when they're done :bounce:

I do recall that, but wondered :lol_hitti how you would put a steak in it or a chicken leg? :headscrat
I think that heater will take a 3" pipe so we'd get a larger diameter pipe if needed

Previously when traveling out of town it's nasty hotel food for breakfast, sandwiches or more nasty hotel food for lunch (sneaked out at breakfast time) and go to usually a bar for supper. I think we spent a combined $50 on food for the week for 5 guys. We'd spend double that in one night at the bar easily by the time you get food and a beer or two. This way we cooked on the farm and had that beer or two (or Fireball and Apple Crown) in the hotel lobby when we got back after supper. It was way much more betters

I couldn't agree more !!!

There is a little bar in Thief River Falls, MN with my picture on the wall because I decided it was a good idea to eat their monster 2lb burger with 1lb of fries in under 15 minutes. I tell ya what, that was not a great morning to get up and go work on a ladder :lol_hitti

Look at those happy little 290lb calves that showed up one day last week while I was out of town :bounce:
48746852963_104dc37ed5_z.jpg

Seems they are too small for the pen and are getting out into the feed alley !!
48736774397_c17ea6a7fe_z.jpg

We tried a few things including hanging a piece of sucker rod below the feed rail so they bonk into it before they get too far out. Dad also brought over a few half barrels to try and use as feeders. We'll see what works !!
48736593786_14bedd3d59_z.jpg

The neighbor guy I'm borrowing the dozer from finally got the injection pump back. I threw it on quick and got it fired up. If it ever dries up I'll be able to use it !!
48736774407_0b5eef2d03_z.jpg

I don't think we'll be cutting meadow any more this year. The 3.5" of rain we got last week pretty much set that ship sailing far far away !!
48736593581_99ba8ac1b3_z.jpg

Mr. Leo helped Mama Bear cook some tomato sauce Friday evening. He very nicely unwrapped the bullion cubes she needed.
48736268718_13169335ae_z.jpg

I always marvel at the amount of seasoning that goes into a pot of this stuff !!
48736774447_69a7f19ab0_z.jpg

Right at 28 cups bagged up to be frozen
48736774462_2804b54c90_z.jpg

On Sunday morning we went around to do some crop scouting. Most of the beans look well on their way to harvest !!
48746852883_e1fe4f6f84_z.jpg

Later Sunday we went to Pioneer Days in Albany, MN for the day and saw lots of neat things !!
48746852848_552a35e12a_c.jpg

They added on to the stationary engine buildings again. This is one of three that house stationary engines. Most were running along sitting there all happy.
48747185546_8c22dfe701_c.jpg

This is one of the more impressive things at Pioneer Days. It is a 350hp steam motor with a 16' diameter flywheel. It was built in 1907 (if I remember correctly) and was used at a paper mill as well as at the Ford factory later on. It was retired from daily use in the 1960's and brought to Albany in the late 80's and assembled a while after that. It is always quite the piece of machinery to watch !!
48746852918_1f56684c98_z.jpg

There were a couple threshing demos going on. These guys were having a good old time with some oats.
48747185606_d3fcce3215_c.jpg

The gravel crushing crew was back at it again. They usually crush gravel each year and put it on the roads in the venue to maintain them. Pretty neat stuff.

Very cool. Maybe next year Ill get there. Looks like a nice sandbox they've got there. What was their show feature?
The show feature was Case this year and there were some REALLY sharp looking machines there !!

There was a pair of old steamers that were perfectly restored as well as a collection of 11 beautiful cream/orange Case tractors from a 530 to a 1470. There was even a pair of Case 1200 4wd's !!

Next year is the year of International so I'm sure all kinds of things will get brought in !!

Well we are up to over 6" of rain in the last 10 days and it shows. The meadow is flooded about the worst it's been since spring. I don't think we'll be getting in here anytime soon to bale more hay :lol_hitti
48764150751_25cd3e4fdb_z.jpg

Mom sent me this picture yesterday while they were setting up to load a semi load of soybeans to sell. I've never seen this before ....
48764337697_88a4a17833_z.jpg

There is a river running through our basement and into the floor drain. I've given up mopping it up and instead chipped channels into the floor for it to run a little faster. It is coming up through the floor in the adjacent room. I've never seen it come in that way before !!

I'm glad that you're not getting anymore then what you're currently getting in your basement floor! Looks very similar to what I was experiencing at my rental house. I finally installed an inside perimeter french drain system, along with punched holes at the bottom of the cinder block walls. Now that basement is the driest I've ever seen the walls! It's so dry that the seal/paint is flaking off the wall's surface!

As for the rain, my parents are seeing a lot of rain in Odessa, Tx. Due to inadequate storm sewer systems, the roads just flood in West Texas so there's rivers all over that part of the state!

We put in a drain system in our old house and it worked amazing !! This house will hopefully be hauled away in rolloffs in a few years so we're dealing with it's "quirks" for the time being.

I've seen some news footage about the storms in Texas the last few days and that seems like some NASTY stuff !! I sure hope everyone down there will pull through okay !!

Well it's been a bit hectic at work and at home lately and I have a feeling it's gonna get worse before it gets better. Soybeans will be ready to harvest in a few weeks and it just keeps on raining. Good thing the "new" combine has duals and 4wd .... they're both going to be put to the test this year !!

Due to all the rain we've had lately the dirt work for the shop has been wandering around and some of it has ended up 6" deep against the pump house. I do not care for this one bit ....
48785090538_cb57c5524c_z.jpg

It is WAY too squashy to dig around with the skiddy so hand shoveled it is
48785456971_3aee5d0eeb_z.jpg

Meanwhile Dad is hauling more sand and giggling every time he drives by and I'm still shoveling ....
48785457001_af34650a74_z.jpg

ANNNNND MORE RAIN :(
48785090573_c254b69f32_z.jpg

I put these bales here to slow down the water and hopefully hold back some of the sand that is washing out. It sort of seems to be working. This is what 1" of rain in 15 minutes looks like !!
48785090213_21d8e24876_z.jpg

Dad and I ran a tile though here and got it closed up the day before this rain came though. Good thing too !!
48785456561_e017541a47_z.jpg

Sunday Funday at the local zoo !! The kiddos are eyeballing some penguins.
48785090263_a7505b8228_z.jpg

Leo made a few little otter friends :bounce:
48785090318_883427b662_z.jpg

The girls fed lettuce to a couple giraffes :)
48785614292_d6c30c580f_z.jpg

And I found a Minion made from old tires. Pretty sure I have a couple old tires around ..... Hmmmm ......
48785614427_ce8456953f_z.jpg

When I was reattaching the injection pump on the dozer a few days back I didn't get the alternator belt on just right and it got torn up. After trying for a bit to get the new belt over the fan assembly I decided it had to come off
48785090168_a6a3356846_z.jpg

Wow that was a lot more work that it seems it should have been ....
48785614582_dac1987037_z.jpg

Boy oh boy that is an hour and a half I won't ever get back !! It's on and works great now though.
48785090488_aa2b27c4a8_z.jpg

Next project is a bearing that is out on the Housekeeper. It is literally falling apart.
48785456951_6e57a632de_z.jpg

All of it fell apart other than the inner chunk that is rather stuck on the shaft !!
48785090188_c09dfcb596_z.jpg

And that brings us up to today. 43,000 little peepers arrived today !!!
48785090348_86ef6a0303_z.jpg

After we named them all and took roll call to make sure they all remembered their names Dad and I got a load of "junk" loaded up to go to the scrap yard.
48785456691_d4c86a1c94_z.jpg

And I got another load ready to go while he drove about an hour away with his pickup to get some stuff for later ....
48785456841_64295ec107_z.jpg

Next up was to surprise the little people squad with a sandbox !! 2x12 sides with a chunk of rubber on the bottom so they don't dig up grass or black dirt. I know the first thing I'd do when I was a kid was dig straight down as far as I could !!
48785456861_64295ec107_z.jpg

I took a section of the fence out and brought two big scoops of sand in from the stuff we dug out for the shop.
48785614307_750308cb22_z.jpg

I even threw some little people attractant in there for them when they get home. I wonder if they'll notice !!
48785090423_8a96b26819_z.jpg

They found it right away and even drug more **** in there !! They played for almost an hour nonstop so I think building it was time well spent :bounce:
48785614527_c4f1910117_z.jpg

This is what Dad went to get while I hauled junk and put the sandbox together. Enough pallet racking to setup the concrete area in the hayshed something quite nicely !!

Quite the busy farm you have going on!! It looks like the kids are always happy. That is a win in my book.
Happy kiddos are a wonderful thing !!

Things are always busy and when you get used to that it's hard to slow down and enjoy life as it goes flying by. It's a good thing the kiddos and Mama Bear are around or I'd probably work myself into the ground. They drag me back into the house and make me smell the roses (and diapers lol) from time to time. Now that the kiddos are getting larger it's easier all the time to include them in the happenings on the farm. I am QUITE excited that they want to go help with chicken chores again now that the chicks are back. They help for the first few weeks until it gets too dusty in there for them. I cannot seem to find a decent childs dust mask. If you know of one let me know !!!

JBL: nice to see you are still VERY BUSY and you just don't stop movin much.

maybe all the rain this fall means that you won't have -60 degree temps this winter? i'm trying to look on the bright side for you.

with all the critters you have at the farm i'm guessing you have cats so while the kiddies are not playing in the sand box you might need to make a cover for it so the KITTIES don't use it to do a different type of playing in there.

cheers!!

JB, the sand box looks great and is one of the best substitutes for electronics. Their imagination can run wild.

Come on dude it only got -39F last winter. At around -15F we shut the windows in the house because that winter breeze can be a bit brisk :lol_hitti

Surprisingly we have very few cats around here. The ones that are here aren't real friendly :dunno:

The sandbox cover is a decent idea though ....

The kiddos don't have a lot of contact with small electronics. We watch movies and such on the weekends sometimes and they sometimes play with the tablet in the house. They like playing with toys and going outside which is okay with us !!!

JBL: well I personally have only felt -6 degree temps, but it was in Chicago and my flight was delayed so I had to go from airport to hotel in my shorts cause I was flying to Myrtle Beach and was planning on hitting the ground at 80 degrees. so I guess maybe -6 in shorts might give me a good idea about cold (even though I was only outside for a few minutes), but GEESH those temps you had last winter or maybe every winter is WAAAAY too cold for this old guy.

making a cover and maybe one that has a ridge or a angle to keep water from sitting on it might also keep your kid's sandbox from turning into mud (or a kittie little box).

keep up the good work and I hope you catch a break with the weather so maybe you can get your harvest in and get a little more work done before winter sets in.

cheers

Just going to leave these here from January about how cold it gets here. I live where whiskey freezes when left outside in the winter. -6F in shorts isn't bad. I get the mail in shorts and sandals down to around 0F. Just gotta be quick !! :lol_hitti
It's suppose to be -23F here tonight. Lets see how cold Fireball can get before it freezes :bounce:

It was almost -20F this morning and it was a little syrupish but it was not frozen yet.

I gave it a shake and it crystilized like this instantly. It was pretty neat. Of course I had to test it out to see if it tasted the same. It did :lol_hitti

Ok I remember this morning. Damn cold !!!
Well it was a little cold outside this morning when I went out to put wood in the shop stove ....

JBL: bare hands at -19 looks almost painful. i'm guessing you had gloves on when you got the colder reading?

speaking of that cold how do the cows handle it? also any negatives with all the machines when you go to start them back up after winter passes? we used to put blankets on big machines engines here, but that was temps in the teens and above 0.

so the guys in your part of the world walk to the mailbox in your shorts instead of a cup of coffee to wake up? :lol_hitti

nice test showing the Fireball and pretty gutsy taking a drink of it when it's that cold and happy you survived.

You can keep that temperature to yourself......

It's bad enough being a relocated Texan in PA and having to deal with their -6*F temps.
Lol. I was on a dairy last winter and the hispanic milker was grumbling about not being used to the cold up here and I asked him how long he'd lived in MN. He said "15 years but you never quite get used to it ya know?" I laughed. I figured it was his first winter up here and he laughed when I told him that :lol_hitti

Bare hands at -19 can get dangerous in a hurry but I was in and out of the shop that day so it wasn't a big deal. The part that gets really dumb is when it's that cold and I have to work on a cattle waterer, which happened. It was -20'ish and one of the heating elements stopped working and I had to thaw it out and replace it. That was miserable keeping my hands warm while they were wet and holding tools without gloves !!

The cattle do not seem to mind the cold. They are in the barn and away from the wind. We do not do anything special to the machinery other than to take the batteries out of the stuff that won't be moved all winter. The tractors and skid loaders all still run regular #2 diesel as they are parked inside in the warmth all the time so no real risk of gelling up when starting with warm fuel.

It doesn't take long to get the mail. It's only a few hundred feet there and back so not a big deal in the cold.

I never even gave it a second thought drinking Fireball that was -19F. It was good and chilled !!

The little people squad has been helping with chores quite a bit this flock

Before the chicks arrive we put down egg trays and fill them with water to increase their access to water when they first arrive. They get filled a few times in the hours after arrival and then they need to be removed. In the past this has been a wonderfully annoying task as you need to bend over and pick up all 300 of them. It dawned upon me to use a simple fence post to do the work for me. It needs a little refining but the concept is a success. Stab them one at a time and they work their way up the fencepost.

On Thursday I had to go get Miss Lily from school as they said she was dragging along and falling asleep in class. She seemed to have a bit of a cold or something as she was real groggy when I got her. I was putting things together in the shop for work and she took a nap in my comfy shop chair.

Seems all she needed was a nap as she was a great little helper when she woke up !!

I worked on setting up a couple new servers for our robotic farmers that needed new ones and she jumped on the exercise deal and ran it for probably 20min nonstop !!

Friday afternoon I went over to Dad's place to look at a couple new toys in the shed. A freshly rebuilt Case IH 1083 corn head with poly snouts, hydraulic adjustable deck plates and field tracker sensors. Sitting upon a brand new 30' header trailer !! Whoo Hoo !!

Dad and I got the pallet racking up in the hay shed. This is step 34 of 1289 before we can build a new house. This stuff will hold all the "valuable" stuff that resides in the buildings that need to disappear before the house site gets leveled off.

Friday evening Mama Bear and I went on a much needed date. We went to a movie and had food in the theater. Pretty neat but at around $75 for the whole experience it is something we won't be doing all that often !! :wtf:

The goal for Saturday was to finish the dirt work for the shop and start laying the black dirt back over it all. I was hauling sand out of the hole to be used for the things you need sand for when building a shop.
48815684528_e8b64bb8e0_z.jpg

In all I think we took 150yds out of this hole. It was a nice find indeed and will save some serious $$$$$

48816041226_93b3aa37c6_z.jpg

And now to fill that huge hole in. Dad hauled clay uphill from it and I pushed it in with the skiddy. It'll take a while to settle but it won't be under anything so it'll be okay.

We made our goal and Dad got started spreading black dirt back out !!

.... for a family of kitties to live in. Not that they are in the way at all or anything. Argh.

A former co-worker from Leedstone is now the Transportation/Grounds Director at the local High School and asked if they could dump their pile of grass clippings in the **** shack. Well why not I guess ?? Helps us all out I suppose.

I noticed this today and giggled a bit. All the rain lately has washed the wheat out of this box and it started to grow on the ground :lol_hitti
