Nice work moving that bin!!

Just another get ur dun and off to the next thing on the list.

I have no idea how heavy stuff can be shipped “for free” cause when I want to ship something bigger than 12 inches and over 75 pounds it’s about $100 and goes up quickly from there.

Speaking of big stuff these will fit in a usps flat rate box and I think I have about 10 of them. Got a use for galvanized bolts cause I don’t think I have any nuts or a tap this big? I’ll measure but best guess is 8 inches and 1.5 inch threads.

Get it done and move on is the name of the game around here .... or at least that's the attitude I wake up with. Doesn't always go that way though lol

I just ordered a 3/8" Skid loader quick attach plate from Amazon of all places .... $126 shipped. I got one this spring from the same place and it's really well built and very well put together. Probably weighs 50+lbs. No idea how they can even ship it for $126 !!!

I'd never turn down hardware. Whatcha need to have for them ??

Just saw your welding post and looks ok from my chair and a ton better than when you started. I really loved seeing Leo hanging with his Dad even though he had to catch a quick nap.
Looks better now that it's got some gravel road dust on it as well lol.

Little Man is a big help even when he's napping :lol_hitti

Delivered my load of hay today. Scale said it was 18,956lbs. Filled with fuel before I left and when I got back home.

Seems Walter is a thirsty pig when I make him work hard !! 58 miles and 16 gallons of diesel :willy_nil

That's 3.625mph's for you math challenged types :yikes:

Right at $1/mile in fuel alone :lol_hitti

Walter gets 12ish just running around so he likely did closer to 3mpg's or less loaded and 10ish on the way home with the empty trailer lol

Parade season has begun !!
KIMG2128.JPG

More wood stacked up !! There is a 12ish X 17ish space left to fill up. Should be 10ish cord if stacked 6' high with some extra tossed on top.
KIMG2130.JPG

I used my rock bucket to push the wood closer while we were stacking it and got a lot of gravel in the shavings. I don't want to have the saw dig into that **** so out it goes. Didn't think there'd be this much here !!

That's one of the cleanest wood piles I've seen OP.
Well thanks. Last winter was more of a free for all on the wood pile so I thought I'd try to do a 180° flip and have a winters worth stacked up ready to burn. So far I'm doing better in the wood gathering department than I thought I'd be !!

@jblnut

County fair time in the Midwest, is that what's going on there too?
T'was a parade at a local town festive so sort of but on a smaller scale.

We try to go to the festivals of the towns around us for funsies. And Mama Bear says I need to get out more so there's another reason lol

Earlier last week I setup a containment area on the back of Walter to hold stuff.......Like a pickup box lol
KIMG2084.JPG

We're working on making the grove of trees flatter so a buddy can turn it into more field. He said if I helped I could have the wood. I'm in !!
KIMG2087.JPG

I brought two loads of already cut up poplar and other misc stuff home the first day.
KIMG2085.JPG

Two loads dumped here to be stacked up !!
KIMG2090.JPG

There is no power out here so I brought some with to cook lunch
KIMG2086.JPG

Some of these angry ice turtles fell from the sky. There weren't too many and didn't damage our crops so I'll happily take the .6" of rain that came with it !!
KIMG2116.JPG

Yesterday we cut some more and we've almost got the entire grove cut down !! Planning on finishing today and hopefully blocking up as much of the wood as possible so it can dry out to be burnt.
KIMG2132.JPG

Pops started cutting the rye last night. Goodness there is a lot here !!

Moar rye getting laid down !!!!
KIMG2134.JPG

Man oh man this is a game changer!! Using a mini to pick the trees out of the brush worked so well. I didn't get any pictures of later when we used it to hold the wood in the air while we cut from both ends. I bet it literally made blocking the trees up twice as fast. I got another load home today as well. I think there's a shade under 2 cord in each load so that should be 2ish weeks of heat with each load. 4 home with probably 6-8 more left out there. Sweet deal.

Your wood pile is impressive!! Does your time and gas to run those cool trucks and machines offset the winter heating bills? If anything I bet you’re getting exercise and moving a lot to keep you living longer.

Keep posting pics if your life cause omg it makes me feel good and I get up and after it here at my little piece of paradise.

Thanks !! It's a good thing it's hard to keep track of such things because I don't know :lol_hitti

So far all the wood I've burnt has been stuff that we would have/should have cut anyway so this is at least putting it to use. We're cutting down trees to make fields both larger and more pleasant to farm. There are still lots of trees growing on the edges of fields that block sunlight and **** moisture from the crops that need to be cut down. I'm not sure how to factor it all in when you look at being able to get a higher return on the land and not buying propane but having to spend time and fuel to make it all happen.

As far as money goes for things directly related to the wood burning adventure ..... I'm at about a 9yr payback if you figure the cost of propane vs a wood pile showing up magically for free. Actually probably a 10yr payback because I just bought a new wood splitter lol.

The last two days of cutting wood and playing logger have left me pretty worn out. I really enjoy cutting wood and being more active but my body needs a little more convincing that it's a good idea lol. I came home today around 3pm, took a shower, sat down in my comfy chair for "a moment" and woke up to the littles and Mama Bear coming home around 5pm ..... Oops lol.

We went up to Sioux Falls last weekend for a quick family vacation. My wife had never been to Minnesota, so Sunday afternoon after the zoo, we drove up to Marshall, and back. Stopped at Camden State Park on the way back. I had to jump on here and double check where you were. Still a pretty good drive from there!

Lots of things are hard to very specifically track but some things sure are just good fun so it kinda of makes you not care 🤣
Agreed !!

There's a Cenex gas station in Marshall that I stopped at every week when I had a "real job" and did a trek from Melrose to Hoffman to Milnor ND to Madison SD back to Melrose. I had to stop at a farm near each town and swap some hard drives for an experimental activity system I helped install at each place. I know the drive well lol.

Camden State Park is nice. Been a while since I've been there though.

Good job on the bin move!

That's quite the crack on the trailer. Is the one on the other side? I'd be checking that out thoroughly if the driver's side cracked that bad.
That was about the only thing on the entire beavertail that wasn't cracked lol. I went through it all with a close eye and lots of things got weldered up.

Bin move went better than expected which was very okay with us !!!

I purchased a few of these with some Westfield augers a few years back and it's time to modify this one to do what I need it to do.
KIMG2122.JPG

I sliced and diced with the Evo saw until it was just right. Have I mentioned that I like this saw
KIMG2123.JPG

I either didn't take the other fab pictures or my phone ate them or something ...... Oops :dunno:

Here it is installed :lol_hitti
KIMG2144.JPG

I cut it at a very slight 9.765° angle so the auger would angle up slightly.
KIMG2142.JPG

Not my prettiest work but it'll hold. I had the entire inside of this thing cut out and rewelded inside so it sloped only to one auger outlet. You can kind of see with how the burn marks are in it lol. The plan is a 6" auger around 20' long to get the oats to the 8" yellow auger that currently takes the corn to the mixer. Well ..... The 8" yellow auger is going to get replaced with a different red 8" auger but that's next week's project.
KIMG2143.JPG

I have quite the splitter pile to go through !!

Just curious, are you going to need this much wood every winter?

1689902064305.png
Each load is roughly 1.5 cord when it's stacked in nicely and I go through about a cord a week of softwoods like poplar, basswood and pine so it's quite possible. If that was a pile of oak, maple and hickory than there would certainly be wood left on the pile in the spring.

Last fall I started burning in Sept sometime to make sure everything worked so I had time to work out any bugs before it got actually cold. This year I plan to start burning wood when it gets into the low 30's overnight so that should be November sometime. That's still 4-5 months of burning so 20-25 cord on hand isn't a bad idea.

I also want to mix in some coal this winter on the real cold nights. The -20f and windy nights really take a lot of wood !!

I'm also on the hunt for a smart thermostat that can do a floor stat. Anyone know of one ?

Not sure the exact application or intended use for you but I use these with their remote sensors for the shop.

There is a main thermostat and then small sensors mounted in known "hot" spots and it basically works on averages. The thermostat is in the back of the shop, where there are no windows and no real heat sources. So it was getting cold in that location but staying hot in the front where all the heat leaks in from the doors and such. So, I have their sensor mounted by the man door and the overhead door and basically if the unit is set to 80, but it's 90 up by those doors it won't kick off until the thermostat sees say 75 or the sensor sees 85 or so. Not sure how the zoning and the math exactly works but it factors in the hot zones and adjusts the shut off point so those sensor locations cool down better.

Hopefully that makes sense.

I have all the non hub required Honeywell thermostats in the house. They just connect directly to wifi on their own and I can control every zone and the shop all from the app.

Time to combine the rye !!!
KIMG2152.JPG

Om nom nom the red beast gobbles it down like fat kid eating pie !!
KIMG2149.JPG

A little over 750bu from a little over 13 acres. Not bad considering it's been dryer than a popcorn fart here.
KIMG2153.JPG

We have a neighbor that dairy farms and needs around 1,500 little straw bales a year for his calves so he was happy to come bale all the straw up !!
KIMG2158.JPG

Well actually Dad ran the baler tractor while I hauled loads with Walter the road tractor and the neighbor and his boys unloaded the wagons :lol_hitti

That's a nice green baling setup he's got. We never had many with kickers on em around growing up. Everyone stacked by hand.
That 7210 has every factory option other than MWFD. E range trans, side post perf monitor, spray ready cab, foot throttle and its weighted down more than my sister in law. It's a really nice tractor. The 348 baler is 8yrs old with roughly 15k bales through it so it's damn nice as well lol

I recall trying to throw a bale of hay on a flatbed when i was about 10 and I was lucky to stack it that good much less get it on the bed.

Looks like a good day and speaking of being 10 was your big LITTLE driving?
The baler has a thrower so it'll toss them on the wagon for us :lol2:

Yes !!! Miss Lily drove the mini-ex for a while today !! If I can figure out how to post a video I'll toss it up here. She was doing very well after only 15 minutes !!

Beware of these younger kids, they have resources that we don't think of ...

Landscaper bet my Granddaughter that she couldn't operate his Kubota with front end loader and unload a pallet from his gooseneck trailer.

She googled, watched two videos and landscaper was buying lunch

I can see Lilly doing that real soon!

Pops is trying his best to get the last of the straw baled before some rain comes !!
KIMG2164.JPG

Rain, hail and lots of wind but nothing here was damages so all is well !!
KIMG2165.JPG

Won't have to water the garden for a while lol. We got 2.5" once all was said and done :)
KIMG2166.JPG

What a pretty sunset !!
KIMG2171.JPG

Big John sure looks snazzy all washed up :lol2:
KIMG2174.JPG

The cool cells on the chicken barn weren't spreading the water evenly over the entire surface so I tried cleaning the pipe with a loooooong brush but that didn't work ...
KIMG2176.JPG

So I took one chunk out to see what exactly was dirty.
KIMG2178.JPG

This pipe is usually pointed up so the water sprays towards that metal deflector deal. The holes are plugged with hard water **** of sorts 😠
KIMG2177.JPG

So ..... In goes a drill bit on a vise grip. Three hours later ......
KIMG2179.JPG

It's working like it should !!! Which was good as it got hot yesterday. The cool cell evaporated 595 gallons of water yesterday !!

When it's 94f and 80% humidity outside you do projects in your air conditioned shop. Like replacing the pans on the header that Pops boogered up last fall.
KIMG2180.JPG

Old stuff off.....
KIMG2181.JPG

And on a pile. I'm going to use this sheet metal to build a box to hold the hydraulic pump I've been using on Walter lately.
KIMG2182.JPG

Ain't that purrdy !! Looks like a million bucks now !! Well, actually about $1,800 but who's counting
KIMG2184.JPG

The big rain storm we had a little while back all but plugged up my drain by the shop so with more rain in the forecast it was time to clean it out.
KIMG2187.JPG

Goodness this was a project in the heat
KIMG2188.JPG

About a foot of gravel and mud down there to clean out.
KIMG2190.JPG

Pops brought his first saw over for me tinker with before he tossed it. A new carb, plug and fuel lines and it was running like a champ !! This thing is a beast !!

I've got one saw from about that vintage, and the ethanol is hell on fuel lines and the carb. Nice job getting it running!

I hear you on the heat/humidity. My shop is in the basement, so I've been holed up there while waiting for a cold front. I even resorted to cleaning up the basement mess rather than starting a new outside project. Last week sounds like it was the perfect time for you guys to replace sheet metal on that header.

This 041 now has blue Festo air line for fuel lines so we'll see how that does. It's all I had on hand in the correct size and I wanted to make sure it ran before sticking more money into it :lol_hitti

I feel like a pansy having an air conditioned farm shop but I'm 100% okay with it

No reason to feel like that. It's a great way to reward yourself for doing so many tough jobs out in the elements.
I guess you're right

For less than $1/day the office and shop stay nice and workable. The office stays cooler as it's smaller with its own window unit. The shop stays around 73F-ish with just a little 6k BTU window unit.

I know some days your temps can go from freezing (or way below) to hot and recall one day having almost 100 degree temperature change. So having controlled temps in your shop and inside your machines is definitely benefits from all your hard work.

Is there any machine that you won’t let Lily try to drive or use (or the other kids)? Good on you for raising your kids to use machines and teaching them good working habits! Oh yea napping is required on occasion.

I’m positive your dad has fixed more than a few of your boogered up things. And I bet he helped teach you how to fix stuff too. Nice work!!
