We moved the bin over here and took the bottom ring off. She who must be obeyed says we need to build a grain bin gazebo, or “binzebo” off our patio. Okay I guess. I’ve only moved this dumb thing seven, yes seven, times so what’s one more 😂
IMG_2148.jpeg

Bottom ring is set and the paver blocks are up to the edge of the “binzebo”.
IMG_2152.jpeg

Took a binzebo break and cleaned out the steer barn.
IMG_2156.jpeg

A 2024 Subaru Ascent wandered into the stable. Truth be told this was only slightly more expensive than the lawnmower I purchased this spring 😂

There was a bearing that needed to be replaced behind that mess and I had to get creative to get it out.
IMG_2191.jpeg

If you have a welder and a pile of scrap metal you have an infinite amount of tools you don’t know you have. You just have to build them !!
IMG_2193.jpeg

This crusty looking thing worked very very well !!
IMG_2192.jpeg

And now it’s the most valuable tool in the shop with a lifetime warranty which will be handy because I’m hard on things.
IMG_2196.jpeg

Whoops.
IMG_2244.jpeg

The rotor drive belt seems to have given up and relocated itself all over the place. Well dang it.
IMG_2245.jpeg

Smackeraoodoodle some wood chunks in the driven pulley to pry it apart …..
IMG_2250.jpeg

Hey lookie there !! It’s back together. It wasn’t as bad as I thought it’d be but I don’t want to do it again for a while, which is why I got an extra belt right away. If I have a spare I’ll never need it !!
IMG_2251.jpeg

I think I’d rather replace ten rotor belts before doing this long double belt that drives the shoe, spreaders, tailings and clean grain elevators again. What a PITA !! Tons of **** had to come apart and get the prybar treatment to get out of the way.

Those pavers look like a ton of work, literally.
Nice Subaru.
Nasty belt!
Eh a little over 10 tons of work :lol_hitti

I’ve always said 5yrs old or 100k miles and the Mamamobile gets replaced.

The belt was getting worn but we didn’t realize it was THAT worn or it’d have gotten done before we started harvest. It wasn’t too bad to do but stunk because we had to shut down to do it. Oh well.

Combine belts...expensive and time consuming! My hats off to you sir!
I think we were only into the rotor belt and sieve belt for around $600 so not bad really for getting parts at the stealership :lol_hitti

I’d rather replace a rotor belt than lay pavers 😂

1st bedding bale of the season getting kicked out :deathmeta
IMG_2255.jpeg

Hey tax guy !! See it’s not only a lawnmower, it’s for farm use !!
IMG_2256.jpeg

Moved from soybean straw into meadow hay. I made 75 bales from the two little fields in the picture !! Good grief there was a lot of hay here. I don’t know how the row in front of my even got through the conditioner rolls in the discbine !!
IMG_2323.jpeg

Pops hauled them out while I baled.
IMG_2325.jpeg

Time to start corn !! The first stuff of Harvest 2024 !!
IMG_2329.jpeg

Ooooooooooo unloading on the go like the big boys !! Really getting stuff done now !!
IMG_2342.jpeg

A sharp looking 044 showed up from Hungry and I’m itching to get it into some wood !! I have an HD2 filter setup and dual port muffler cover on the way to let it breathe a bit better. It’ll get sent off to Tennessee soon to get a woods port job soon. Dang excited about that !! First the 044 will go then I’ll send the 066 and maybe send the 026. We’ll see. One only has so much $$$ to spend on silly things lol
IMG_2345.jpeg

Back to harvest !! The little guy was picking up corn cobs, or chasing a caterpillar or who knows lol.
IMG_2356.jpeg

Pops was worried I wouldn’t be able to keep up hauling

Nice Subaru there, I purchased a 2024 Outback for the wife as her minivan of 18 years was too rusted to keep on the road. The Outback is too smart for me. Has too many bells and sirens that tells you how to drive, bad for me but wife is ok with it.

My 2018 forester has 74,000 miles on it and it's going like a champ. Need to change spark plugs but overall maintenance isn't too bad with the NA 2.5L engine.

She who must be obeyed wanted an 8-passenger with a heated steering wheel and there were two on the lot. One was the most expensive one they had and the one we brought home was $150 less expensive than that. What a deal!

This thing has to be similar to the shuttle. You almost need a masters degree to get it moving and out of the driveway 🥴

I like my 2005 minivan. You get in, turn the key, hope the battery isn’t dead and once it’s running you put it in gear and go do minivan things. Simple simple simple. The radio is a little complex as the volume button is also the power button. I have learned to live with it.

My wife wanted the heated steering wheel also, but I couldn't stomach the cost increase. She's also cheap too so when I told her what it cost to go up that one more level of trim for the steering wheel, she couldn't agree that it was worth the extra cost.

Her previous car was a 2006 Sienna, and she wanted me to keep it on the road. But unfortunately, the rust took out a chunk of the body that I didn't see until it was too late as it was covered by a plastic panel, and I had no reason to take that panel off till the lifting point of the car just went into the floorboard of the car when going up on a lift.

Do ya'll shut the auto on/off feature when you get in the Subaru? We keep ours off as it's annoying when it shuts off, so first thing we do is hit that little auto button to turn it off when we start the car.

I’m a huge cheap *** as well but figured I just purchased a lawnmower that was more expensive than this Subaru so I didn’t have much of a leg to stand on so yeah. She has a heated steering wheel and a Harmon Kardon audio system and heated center seats and a retractable sun roof larger than most NFL stadiums have.

I’m looking for a Sienna for my next van !! They seem to go forever if they don’t rot away first.

No idea. I didn’t know it did that honestly. I’ll ask her. My minivan sometimes shuts off but it’s usually because I bump the ignition with my big knees and there is something goofy in the steering column. It’s been in the “let’s look at it” list for a while but it’s never died when actually moving so it hasn’t been a “big deal” so far lol

Just starting corn huh?

We finished up Monday just in time to get the last load across the scale at the elevator before they closed at 7:00.

This afternoon I closed pivot tracks with my brothers tractor (8245R I think?) my brother can look where his tractor went. He sent me a screenshot. I thought it was neat.

Screenshot 2024-10-25 at 5.34.48 PM.jpeg

He sent me one the other day after I used it to put out the fire too.

Can you tell where the flames were?

Somewhere during corn we took a trip to the granite junk yard. Mama Bear found a few things we “needed” so we planned a trip down there.
IMG_2299.jpeg

A few weeks later we went to retrieve our treasures. A couple neat column chunks, benches for the patio table, some small neat looking chunks and a few big cubes for who knows what.
IMG_2317.jpeg

Load to had more interesting pieces. Some bench shaped pieces, a few red planter things and a bunch of other stuff Mama thought was neat.
IMG_2321.jpeg

On the truck we had another couple cubes and some retaining wall block. Not sure what to do with any of it, but it was all apparently too neat to leave there.
IMG_2322.jpeg

The bench’s were heavy but I bear hugged them and set them in place.
IMG_2365.jpeg

I’m quite please with how this turned out !!

Glad to see the skid steer didn't tear up the pavers :D
Best not look at the drag Mark by the one bench then :lol_hitti

I think adding the heated wheel to the Subaru is nothing more than changing out the wheel and maybe the light switch....New OEM heated wheel looks to be about 275$ if you order online from some of the dealers.
I asked about that and got a very resounding absolutely we will not do that. Order it with the car. Plus, there were only 2 8 passenger models on the lot and they had none on order so we would have had to wait a few months and I didn’t want to put new tabs on her current car, so 🤷‍♂️

At the end of the day, Mama is happy and the car is paid for so it all worked out I guess.

I wasn't going to mention it...you should have just kept that to yourself ;)

PS - I also actually laughed out loud and whispered ******** to the "bear hugged" comment
I may have nudged it into its final place with a little help from the skiddy …..

Laughter is the best medicine. That and hugs from your kids. There are not too many things better than a hug from a little person after you’ve been gone all day. It’s like they’ve been away from you for 5yrs every time. Love it.

I asked Mama Bear about the auto start stop deal and she said she shut it off in the settings somewhere and it hasn’t done it since. Maybe that’s an Ascent thing as I don’t see a module listed for the Ascent on the website above.
Some vehicles can be programmed by the user like Mama Bear's, most can't. Subaru is one of those smart ones.

We asked our dealer if they could go into the software to disable it and they said no. I honestly don't believe them. I think they can but just won't for whatever reason.

Probably due to their EPA requirements, they can’t touch it at the factory. Considered a modification to the emission system at that point.

The tensioner pulley that runs the straw spreaders decided to break and pops hit the shut up button on the alarm and the entire combine filled up with trash. About an hour later and we were back up and running again !! I should add that there is another alarm for the air screen that is a false alarm and goes off every time the separator is engaged so they likely both got silenced at the same time.
IMG_2368.jpeg

This tire was getting a little sketchy so I changed it out with the little green jacking system.
IMG_2377.jpeg

What a view from the office today !!
IMG_2372.jpeg

The lean-to has a door !! I debated about doing an uninsulated cheapo door but went with the same fancy door that the shop already has to make sure they all match. I’m super excited to have bird free storage !!
IMG_2376.jpeg

It needs a bath !! I think the two colors actually mesh well. The darker stuff is on the South side and can’t be seen unless you go around the back.
IMG_2384.jpeg

Time to make a few hundred corn straw bales !!
IMG_2390.jpeg

Roll ‘em up !!
IMG_2392.jpeg

Neat view from the top of the grain bin. 154 bales is bring home from these two fields.

A bit behind on updates again ……:needpics:

I got to bagging up all the fines and fuzzes from under the dryer as soon as we were done as it was supposed to rain. This stuff turns into concrete once it gets wet and dries back out.
IMG_2396.jpeg

That’ll add a few days of burn time to my wood pile !! The wood boiler loves this stuff.
IMG_2397.jpeg

Munching off the last field of corn !!
IMG_2406.jpeg

It was dry enough to haul right into my steer barn bin. That’ll save hassle and drying cost on around 8,000bu. Can’t argue with that !!
IMG_2407.jpeg

Once we were done with corn I got started on hauling all the corn straw bales home. 22 at a time
IMG_2427.jpeg

Not sure why but I really enjoy hauling bales and filling the shed :dunno:
IMG_2428.jpeg

Once I have a chunk of the bales home we decided to haul some chicken pooooooop and work it in. We only did tillage on the ground we hauled manure on as it was very dry and the digger felt like it was going to get torn in half.
IMG_2434.jpeg

A shade over 100acres worked on that fill. Good grief. I averaged 13 gallons per hour. Bonkers.

Now that you've bagged the fines, do you wet them down and let dry to solidify, and when the time comes, just chuck the whole bag in the burner?
And are you doing the same with all the sawdust you're making with the chainsaw collection?

They go in the stove just like that. I don’t know how long it’d take to dry them back out one wet so in they go fluff and all !

So far no, I have been making a pile of bark and chips on the corner of the property. Older Mike may use it as compost or just leave it there forever. He can worry about that :lol_hitti

Once we had the bulk of the tillage done we switched into tile plow mode.
IMG_2456.jpeg

We put in a couple rolls for ourselves on both owned and rented ground. This stuff went in where we cleared all the trees out last winter.
IMG_2457.jpeg

Pops holding down the pipe so it doesn’t wander away when I start plowing.
IMG_2498.jpeg

This little deck over is sure coming in handy !!
IMG_2496.jpeg

Not only one rock but three at the same time got stuck under the plow :lol_hitti
IMG_2515.jpeg

Had to get the mini over there to dig around and get them out of the way.
IMG_2516.jpeg

One of the days the little people had off of school for some unremembered reason and they came along not definitely not get in the way.
IMG_2524.jpeg

We had to run some stuff through a rather soggy spot so we had a neighbor give a tug with his Versatile 850.

That's an awful lot of white utility company trucks on the road.......which line did you hit? :lol_hitti
My cousin is building a new house just out of camera view and they were there digging/trenching/boring the line to his new house. I sent that picture to a few buddies that day as we were tiling and they asked the same thing :lol_hitti

We looked into a used Wolfe tile plow before going with the pull type Gold Digger plow. We didn’t want to get a RGN to haul it and the hassle that goes with a used piece of machinery like that. Believe me, it was penciled out and hashed over but we decided this was better for us. Plus it was around 20% the cost of that Wolfe plow we were looking at so that helped the decision as well lol

Mama Bear kept grumping that her feet were cold so I decided firing up the stove was in my best interest.
IMG_2528.jpeg

Puff puff puff and away it goes.
IMG_2529.jpeg

We got some rain finally so we got after hauling manure and more tillage before it froze up.
IMG_2595.jpeg

MiniMe tagged along for quite a while. Chatterboxing and bouncing around in the cab all while eating snacks and having the time of his life.
IMG_2592.jpeg

Putting our feet up at the office.
IMG_2598.jpeg

We’ve been trying to get better about spreading cover crop seed in the fall so Pops spread rye on a bunch of acres and I harrowed it in. We’ll see what happens !!
IMG_2609.jpeg

Once things sort of froze up Pops and it went to fill a couple trailers for one of the guys we rent land from. He’s having issues getting around so we figured we could lend a hand or two.
IMG_2631.jpeg

Miss Lily decided she wanted to be in the high school musical this fall. They did “Joseph and The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” and it was a great performance !! She is one of the littles in the tiedye shirts. I was in most every play from 8th - 12th grade and some of the friends I made in drama are still in our lives today so it was easy to get behind her wanting to be in drama club.
