We got a few things crossed off the hunny do list. First one was building a pad for the pool so it didn’t have to be on the patio again all summer.
IMG_6520.jpeg

That turnt out decent so since the yard was all screwed up we tackled a few other things as well.
IMG_6523.jpeg

Boom. Fire pit is placed in a granite slab to make it easy to trim around.
IMG_6526.jpeg

More granite slabs are placed to be used as bases for corn hole boards.
IMG_6528.jpeg

May as well stay on theme and make granite corn hole boards. This was a justification project to defend the “What do you need all those tools for!?” statements. “Well dear I can use my own stuff instead of renting it. Sort of handy isn’t it that I can do projects for you on a moments notice !!”
IMG_6536.jpeg

250lbs each. Ain’t no one moving these :lol_hitti

That ******** set is awesome! Nice work.

Good to see you are getting to fly your new drone.

It should pay for itself in no time so you can buy a Jetson or similar brand to fly around in it and check out your stuff in person.

Nice looking ******** game. Do you use real corn in the bags in minny so da?

I thought you’d have a horseshoe pit like we had growing up at our uncle’s farm.

Have a grand weekend

Thanks !! I think they rock.

The drone has been a good thing so far and I hope will be able to turn some serious profit. They make units you can ride on already lol. I’m toying with getting an NDVI drone to be able to do crop scouting but a decent one is close to $10k so we’ll see what happpens.

Absolutely real corn !! It’s call ******** so the corn needs to go in the hole lol.

I haven’t thought of a horseshoe pit !! That may have to be added somehow here.

Love the granite corn hole boards! :ROFLMAO:
Thanks !!

Mama Bears was gonna make a set of bags at some point and make them out of old pants or something filled with corn of course.

A while back, I was at garage sales and started buying the cheap bean babies, I believe we now have the lions, tigers and bears (oh my) for ********. Adds a different dimension.......
Ya know, that’s a fantastic idea !! Any chance you have a pail full we can drag home sometime soon 😂

Really looking forward to a road trip !!

Are you going to polish the granite for the boards or leave them as is?
She who must be obeyed says they need to be smooth. The guy she wants to have polish them says they’re fine. I told her when I got a chance I’d polish them a bit. Until then they can look like they do 😂

Thanks for stopping by !!

I went and scouted the oats I sprayed a while back to see how good the weed kill was and I was quite impressed.
IMG_6585.jpeg

This is a strip I left that was right next to some soybeans that would have been killed if they got sprayed with the same stuff. Lots more weeds here !!
IMG_6584.jpeg

Hot and humid and I’m in the mobile air conditioned command center spraying 1st pass on some corn acres.
IMG_6568.jpeg

90’ at a time blasting weeds to Jupiter.
IMG_6569.jpeg

The weather was perfect for spraying so pops and I both went at it at the same time.
IMG_6571.jpeg

I’ve never planted sunflowers before but I think that’s a sunflower !!
IMG_6572.jpeg

Back to the small farming tasks. Tillered up the new lawn area again to break up clumps and make a nice seed bed. The guy I snagged the tiller from when he wasn’t home noticed it was gone and wants it back :lol_hitti
IMG_6574.jpeg

I brought the tiller back with my lawnmower and snagged his with the seeder that was already attached. Sort of handy having a tractor for each attachment. I highly recommend it !!
IMG_6578.jpeg

Time to lay down some grass seed !!
IMG_6576.jpeg

These little farming projects are more work than the big ones lol. No autosteer or AC in the tiller or seeding rigs 😂

the little farming is a project that I got on my horizon, I'm sure it's easier using those machines then it is doing it by hand! LOL

I spied some 4x4” galvanized tubing in the weeds at the local recycling center and asked about it and here it is. Gonna use it as legs on the binzebo I’ve committed to build for Mama Bear once I gathered all the pieces. I’ve about got them all gathered so I may as well get started …… or so she says :lol_hitti
IMG_6602.jpeg

Pops, the little guy and I got the steer barn cleaned out again. It always looks so nice in there when the pens are cleaned and completely fresh bedding covers the floor.
IMG_6600.jpeg

I’ve been messing with a few things on the redneck drone trailer. I added a drip catch bucket by the charger to keep the fill hose in to contain any drips while the drone is flying. I also added a 55gal barrel to have more fresh water on hand for rinsing things out.
IMG_6620.jpeg

I got this grill from a buddy 16yrs ago and it’s sat unused for the most part for the last 12 so I decided to bring it up to the shop and use it to make lunch and such. Leo and I spent an hour cleaning it up and fired up to burn off all the crud.
IMG_6633.jpeg

The ol gal still puts out the heat !!
IMG_6630.jpeg

Tossed some frozen hot dogs and chicken legs on to break it back in.
IMG_6631.jpeg

Definitely a few hot spots but that’s to be expected as the heat shields are mostly rotten lol.
IMG_6635.jpeg

I think I’m gonna like this thing up here !!
IMG_6636.jpeg

We decided to do a movie night since it was hot and sweaty and it was a balmy 65f upstairs. We’ve started in on the Marvel movies.
IMG_6622.jpeg

Since it was still hot and sweaty the little guy and I set about to give the shoffice a through cleaning starting with the kitchen area. I quite like how turnt out. No before picture but imagine the counter full of random junk and the cabinets so full you can move anything around without making it all fall out.
IMG_6637.jpeg

Ended that day by making some pork chops, potatoes and carrots on the “new” grill.

Its surprising how often people throw a grill away just because it needs a good cleaning and an AA battery for the ignitor.

Speaking of, I need to clean my grill,
The igniter is 100% shot lol. I use a long nosed lighter thing to light it up and it works fine.

People throw away all kinds of good things for a lack of wanting or knowing how to fix them.

If you have Prime— there is a great show called Clarkson’s Farm. Season 5 episode 3 is all about technology in farming. Really cool stuff— kept expecting you to show up on the episode!!
We’re working our way through Season 4 at the moment. Seeing the challenges they have to deal with makes me appreciate how things are here. The amount of govt involvement here pales in comparison to what they deal with.

Love Clarkson's Farm and this blog! Season 5 episode 3 is great!! Jeremy might have finally done something right!
Thanks for the kind words !!

A high school buddy who grew up out here in farm country but is VERY much a city boy got me into Clarkson's farm and we talked about it yesterday actually. He commented about the same episode while we were bringing his new lawnmower home. He is gonna come out in the next few days and I’m gonna show him the drone and we’re gonna spray some water on the corn field by my house so he can see it work.

Brand new S140 Deere. He debated which one to get for a few weeks and we talked it through in more ways than I thought possible for a $3900 “tractor” but he’s stoked to “put it to work farming his lawn”. We cut with it for a bit and it worked great and sucked up some plenty wet grass which surprised me.

There was a hyd oil puddle under the 7630 and the logical place to start was in the cab. Leo vacuumed the floor off so we could remove it.
IMG_6672.jpeg

Floor is out !!
IMG_6677.jpeg

Oh look. A floor hole.
IMG_6673.jpeg

The 2nd line from the top is leaking down below. Another smart guy named Mike at Midwest Machinery in Sauk Centre told me where the unseen end was. Found it !!
IMG_6674.jpeg

Old green line, new not green line.
IMG_6675.jpeg

Again with the hose machine. Love this thing !!
IMG_6676.jpeg

I got the hose in and received this picture with the caption “why is there corn in my garden !? Tee hee.
IMG_6678.jpeg

Pops got the bulk tank by the irrigator well !!
IMG_6681.jpeg

Whilst scouting fields it was discovered that a tree so rudely decided to fall into my corn field. WTF tree !?
IMG_6683.jpeg

Leo and I relocated it back into the tree line.
IMG_6684.jpeg

Whilst scouting more fields I thought this was a neat pic so I took it. And now you can have it as well !!

Now you need a paint booth to paint those hoses green so they will be official OEM spec!
Ya know I thought about painting it green but didn’t :lol_hitti

The best part of that hose ordeal is that when I went to reinstall it I sat under the tractor in a different spot and saw a fitting above the hose I removed and made that had a drip on it. I took a finger to wipe the drip off and the fitting moved. WTF !? I tightened it probably a good 3/4 turn. So. Likely the hose I replaced wasn’t in fact leaking. I couldn’t see the leaky fitting before the hose I replaced was removed :argue:

dust free cab is nice,
heater is nice,
a/c is nice,
but sure a pain to work on everything in, over, under and around.

I can see a disappearing tree line in your future.
Whilst tightening the newly found loose fitting the stubby 15/16” wrench went flying but didn’t hit the ground. Oh for Pete’s sake where did that go !?!? I spent a good half hour finding it back. Dumb lol.

The tree was in a field that I am renting for the first year. The rest I fear will fall as well. They’re all ****** box elder remaining or I would go back and mow them all down. There is a 5a pine forest north of there on the same parcel they said I could mow off. I may just do part of it. I love burning pine !!

I hate when the tool don’t come out of the engine bay when it falls. I had one fall inside the frame crossover. Took some creative use of a fuel hose and magnet to get that out!

If all you are wanting is NDVI images I'd think it would be a whole lot cheaper just to get images from a company like climate?

Good to see some updates from you! I haven't been on here in a while as we went through the spring circus again lol.

The third of three soybean loads getting loaded up !! Roughly $10k in each load once they’re full so I like seeing these leave the farm.
IMG_6692.jpeg

It’s been a few weeks but Pops has gotten the corn all side dressed with liquid 28%.
IMG_6694.jpeg

Random little shop project. I’ve been wanting a mailbox outside the shop door for a while and here I have one now !! It’ll be used for venders to leave slips and myself to leave small parts and bills in.
IMG_6699.jpeg

It looks purrdy but is 100% the reason I want to do some upgrades to the planter !!
IMG_6708.jpeg

About a week ago Pops and I spread some urea on corn with the drone. It worked quite well !!
IMG_6712.jpeg

I shot for 175lbs/acre and the drone holds about 180lbs in the dey spreader box so it took a little while lol.
IMG_6713.jpeg

Once the urea was spread I stuck the liquid applicator box back on and flew some early season fungicide on to see what sort of difference that would make.
IMG_6721.jpeg

Zooming along at 57a/hr in this particular field !!
IMG_6725.jpeg

The new lawn looks fantastic. I said I wasn’t going to water it so if God wanted us to have a nice lawn he’d have to water it. It’s been raining a fair bit here which is fantastic !!

Could be a few yard sales and excursions might have a couple spare sets!
We almost stopped at a few places on the way to you but didn’t lol !

A while back I contacted @bugnut and loosely worked out details on acquiring a few shop tools he was looking to move along so a buddy of mine and I headed East in a box truck to make a trip home from one of the best garage sales I’ve ever been part of !!
IMG_2923.jpeg

The first night we spent in Bloomington IL. In the morning while having breakfest my old High School band director walked by and we chatted for a bit. Turnt out he was doing some transporter work in his retirement lol.
IMG_6787.jpeg

Governor named Mike. Can’t be a half bad state.
IMG_2931.jpeg

We’ve almost made it to the destination!!
IMG_2946.jpeg

Joel said “pull in, lots of room in the yard to turn around!!” Didn’t look like it but we indeed had all kind of room to turn around once I began the multi point maneuver.
IMG_2948.jpeg

The beetle in the avatar !! He had a couple really neat bugs as well as a beautiful pooch. She took a little while to warm up to us but once she did she was a giant puppy again !!
IMG_2947.jpeg

Joel’s neighbor so graciously loaned him a skiddy to assist in loading things. It made loading the South Bend lathe and Bridgeport incredibly easy. Plus Joel had them both up on blocks when we got there so all I had to do was pick them up and shove them in the truck.
IMG_2951.jpeg

Bridgeport going in !!
IMG_2957.jpeg

Absolutely beautiful with the Bluetooth straps on them both ready to go towards their new homes !
IMG_2959.jpeg

We had to stop at Buc-ee’s apparently lol. I couldn’t believe how many people were in that place at 10pm when we were there. It was absolutely packed !! Amazing food and the beef jerky and beef brisket is incredible !

We got to drive through the heart of corn/soybean country and I had to stop and walk a few fields lol. Stuff looked really nice all the way out and back.
IMG_6799.jpeg

I went out for a Bridgeport and a South Bend lathe and came home with a fair bit more once we started looking around. @bugnut was an amazing host and we had some great conversations while loading and had a few beverages after. He was a great guy to meet and chat with and I think we could have spend a lot longer in his incredibly well organized shop. Good grief was that place well organized and clean !!
IMG_6801.jpeg

All the tools made it home safe and sound !!
IMG_6827.jpeg

That Penske truck hauled things well and dumped its load all over my shop lol.
IMG_6828.jpeg

Mama Bear and I have been discussing adding 32-40’ onto the shop and I think this may be the push to do it. A clean space for a machining shop, a wood shop as well as a space for her to have a home business doing her thing may be in the near future. I won’t turn the lure to find a few more machining tools to fill a space like that down !
IMG_6829.jpeg

What a road trip !!IMG_6833.jpeg

Just before leaving Joel handed a few boxes over with the kids names and Mama Bears name on them. “What’s this” I asked. He says “gifts for the rest of the family”. They opened them today and wow. Absolutely spot on with their interests and they were all so excited !! A number of really nice Nat Geo items for the kids and a pair of Red Wine bottles for Mama Bear. We smiled and shook our heads at the same time. It really was unexpected and appreciated!! Thank you Joel !!
IMG_6852.jpeg

I don’t think I have ever mentioned it but this is my absolute favorite thing to sip on over some ice and I found a bottle in a box while unpacking. Again, way beyond what I expected when I headed towards Ohio ! Thank you sir.
IMG_6853.jpeg

The girls dove into their gifts immediately and the little guy was outside catching bugs to put into his new bug house. @bugnut has earned himself a new name around here …… “Grandpa Joel”. Again, thank you sir !! I’d love to have stayed for a few days to chat but we left in more of a hurry than intended to get back home to our own rat race.
IMG_6857.jpeg

What a beautiful unit that is !!
IMG_6860.jpeg

Bridgeport is setup and ready to be wired and powered up. I’m incredibly excited to put these to use !!!!

Yeah, but did you genuflect to the wall of jerky? They also have a number of jerky flavors that are not bagged, but in bulk in the cooler cabinet next to the wall of jerky.

I've got two Buc-ee's within about 15 miles of me. :p

@jblnut Mike, glad everything went smoothly. We do need to find time to visit again, you sir could school me on farming. It was a pleasure to visit and seeing the tools heading to a new home, while bittersweet, was glad someone would find them useful.
Glad to provide a few minutes of fun for the kiddos.

PS its better than a t-shirt. Enjoy!

We stood there drooling for a while and proceeded to spend way too much on meat lol.

I had a great time in our short visit and also wish it could have been longer !! If you ever get the urge to drive a Bug out this far stop in and I’ll cook you some meat treats !!

That's the coolest road trip I've read about in a while!

Sounds like you weren't far from me then if you were in Ohio, of course I was up in Erie over this past weekend.
We had a pretty good time !! My passenger had a rather flat **** when we got home as the passenger seat was basically a chunk of plywood with a thin piece of foam on it.

Looks like a great trip guys. Well done.
Everything got home safe and sound. Now I just need to add onto the shop to hold all the new stuff lol

Filling up a big truck with cool stuff and meeting new friends sounds awesome. Bugnut has always been a very positive member here and glad you both figured out a way to get together.

So another shop addition in your future along with maybe a cover for your firewood area?
Yeah most likely lol. We’ve been talking about a few things recently but a 32-40’ addition is likely gonna happen in the next couple years.

Love it, thanks for the report.
You’re very welcome !! Thanks for stopping by !!

Alas, I would be remiss in my duties if I failed to mention that Mike provided a very nice handcrafted gift. I now own a Wishek wok! Many thanks, my visiting grandson was busy envisioning bacon cheese burgers and fried potatoes by the plateful!
Oh boy oh boy !! Get that bad boy good and seasoned and cook some of the best stuff you’ve ever had on it !!

Very cool!

Show us what you cook with it!
Agreed. We’ll be needing pictures of the goodness the Wok will provide !!

Okay so I typed this reply and upon rereading it I seem like a total new guy :lol_hitti

Bear with me as I start down the precision tooling path !!

Alright so I'm doing some sorting through all the treasures I pried out of Joels hands and have found a few neat things. I can make them all move and have a good general idea about all of the things on the mill table but the chuck on the left has me a bit perplexed. It has a very precise set of degree markings around it but yet it is the most clumsy to move thing I've used in a while. There is no precision to it really. Normal stuff with the vise next in line, the next red deal is a neat spinny deal with hold downs like the mill table, the next blue deal is a heck of a neat piece with a very slick dial-o-wheel and a set of stops.
2026-06-30 16.33.30.jpg

Joel made it very clear that these were to stay upright on the travels home and now I see why !! These must be hold downs for the mill .....
