I would not worry about the pipe getting knocked....the odour is a great way to clear your sinus and wake you up faster than 5 cups of coffee.
It's always a **** shoot when we cut the meadow if we're gonna get it baled or not. It takes 4-7 days to dry and if it rains it'll take longer to dry or the ground may be too wet to drive in and bale it. I'd much rather have it rain and not be able to get in the meadows because the rain will help the rest of the crops much more !!That picture reminds me of one wet year where we had to pull the baler with the crawler. The hay was ready but the ground to soft/wet to use a wheel tractor. Good luck on that.
Well that makes another reason I didn't want to hit the pipe and crack it !!I would not worry about the pipe getting knocked....the odour is a great way to clear your sinus and wake you up faster than 5 cups of coffee.

JB:
nice work on the repair and did you name your Bobcat MARTHA or did i mis read that?
good luck

Others in our area use a pair of 5 gallon pails. Sounds like absolute torture to me !!! See below for the excavators nameJB: The POULTRY HAWK looks like a sweet machine and not sure what others use for these huge CHICKEN COOPS (MANSIONS), but that looks like it should help a lot.
nice work on the repair and did you name your Bobcat MARTHA or did i miss read that? nice work on the ditch. i've got the older brother to your stomper and i certainly know what you mean when you say you are still a bit jumpy.
so maybe by the end of the week you'll have another structure on your farm 3 times as big as my city lot. WOW!!
good luck

Yup. It's Doug because it digs and dugs is past tense of digs so it's Doug !!the excavator's name is Doug - dur![]()

They stood the wall up in roughly 40' sections. It sure looked like it was all nailed together while it was laying there though !!Happy anniversary!
I wanna see how many guys it takes to stand up that loooong wall!![]()
The really bad stuff stayed just North of us. We just about got missed and only got a tenth of an inch. We could really use some rain, it's getting pretty dry around here !!They're talking about lots of stormy weather tonight with high winds....I hope the wall stays in place, even without any sheathing on it, I bet there's enough surface area to catch a lot of wind.
Monday and Tuesday there were 9 guys. Today they are planning on setting all 152 rafters and plan to put roof steel on as well. They are an ambitious bunch.CF: i was thinking the exact same thing when i saw JB's post a few hours ago on my cell phone. with only a little lift OMG that 650 foot wall even if it's only 2x4's 16 inch on center has to be heavy and awkward. looks like the crew figured it out for the other side.
JB: happy anniversary and quite a meal there too.
speaking of workers and CREW how many guys are showing up to cut/nail and put together the COOP?
good luck with the weather
Keep the pics coming!
Question - What kind of work is involved for you with this chicken operation?
I know you got a job off the farm. It looks like a serious chicken operation to run it part-time
The amount of work varies depending where the flock is in the growth cycle. I've been told anywhere from an hour to four hours a day to do chores with one guy. Dad and I plan to do chores together so that time should be cut in 3/4 or so.Lunker you must be reading my mind ecause that was my exact same question!!

I'm planning on adding 64' onto this barn to bring it to a total of 54'x160', or the size I should have have built it 3 years agoBarn addition?! Are we adding more head??
Man you guys sure keep busy

Thanks for following along !! Our farm is tiny compared to some relatives I have in North Dakota that run 15,000 acres ... our 800 seems like a hobby farm to themAbsolutely fantastic -great read so far - makes our farm look tiny..
can i ask for a request.. can you show pics of your toolwall/ tool boxes for the tractors - we are about to redo our workshops for our old ford 4000 and yanmars (i did say small) and am out looking to see how others do it.

South wall that has the bulk of the tools. There are a fair number of "vintage" or "collectible" tools in the boxes and hanging up but they all get used when they need to. They look nice hanging there and are handy to grab when neededAbsolutely fantastic -great read so far - makes our farm look tiny..

I don't use it often but when I do it won't cut everything on one tank of gasClean your lawn mower.

That IS impressive!
Everything is straight and plumb too !!That IS impressive!
For a crew of 16 guys they worked very well together. This crew has built 43 of this exact barn in the last 2.5 years so they've gotten used to each other I guess. No kidding, those guys obviously run like a well oiled machine!
It is a skid loader trailer parked almost exactly in the center of the barn. Looks tiny though !!That last shot is awesome. I bet that's a Suburban parked in there! Haha
