I sent you a PM about the loader........I dont know if it went through doesn't show on my sent folder.
I got it and will take some pics and get them to you.

"Thanks for stopping by !!! "
I'm here everyday keeping tabs on you and the other farmers (CliftonBros).
I'm not a farmer but support all that you do.
Keep up the good work, this mess will soon be over,
Thank you for following along !! I need to get better at posting updates :willy_nil

Having Lily and Mama Bear home full-time has really changed the household dynamic. Monday's I stay home and try my best to "distance learning" her little self and I think for the most part it's going okay. It gives Mama Bear a full uninterrupted day of working to get as much done as she can. We're fortunate to both be in industries considered "essential". She works as a Sales Coordinator for a construction supply company and I work for a dairy supply business and of course myself playing farmer. I try to take Lily with me as much as possible and she hasn't missed a day of chores since this whole silly mess began. I think we're teaching her more real world practical stuff than she will ever learn in school. That being said, hunkering down in the camper on Mondays to "distance learning" her has been a rather enjoyable experience for me at least.

We've had the curtains rolled up a little bit to get some air moving in the steer barn while it's still cool overnight ....
49823970326_23b8abb413_z.jpg

And I decided it was time to open them all the way. Boy oh boy do I like this style curtain A LOT better than what's on the old barn !! They roll up so nice and tight !!
49824292722_fb0b018b75_z.jpg

All the Enogen corn that we had in the hopper bin has been fed so we switched to taking out of the old drying bin.
49824339337_ba611553be_z.jpg

Dad had gotten some oats planted so I brought the roller up to the field and rolled it. This firms up the seedbed and smooths the field out nicely so no rocks are sticking up when we cut the oats later this summer.
49824292752_bc020dd1b6_z.jpg

The STX325 is low on power and we've tried all the easy stuff so off to the mechanic it went. It's got a leaky valve cover and a couple injectors that are weeping so it's needs to be looked at anyway. While it's gone I'm going to try to use the Wishek with the 7810 :headscrat
49823970251_cded966872_z.jpg

Dad had gotten the planter ready over the last few days and we decided it was time to start planting corn !!
49824292757_14636a6099_z.jpg

Off he goes !!! Corn 2020 is underway !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
49824292747_fcbe09c3de_z.jpg

Dad took Miss Alyssa along when he planted the field by our house. She was all smiles the entire time :bounce:
49823970271_1ef3a8efd8_z.jpg

Leo came with me in the 7810 and field cultivator and was in a constant state of asking questions and making faces at me. He's a pretty funny little dude !!!
49823442128_a4e296b89b_z.jpg

Dad !!! Something is moving back there !!! Yup
49823442193_261d8c34b3_z.jpg

Today the girls and I went to a neighbors house and ended up helping them set up their trampoline. The kiddos of course had to test it out for a while so we loaded up some seed corn while they had fun.
49823970351_463821c2e4_z.jpg

Six bags of Enogen seed corn for the steers this next year and the rest is little mini bags of seed corn for a test plot. I will be a Golden Harvest dealer with the previously mentioned neighbor starting this fall so we thought it'd be smart to do a test plot on our ground so I can learn a little about the varieties in it.

As a Golden Harvest dealer, does that mean you will be bagging up your corn? Or do you just grow it & haul it to them, so they do the bagging?

With this COVID ****, do you think the cattle & chicken demand will take a hit on you? Or is it too early to tell? I sure hope it doesn't affect your operation.

Anyway, thanks for the updates as usual! :)

These kids today have it made with the buddy seat and cab . :) I logged many an hour sitting between Dad's legs and taking many shots to the head off the steering wheel. Great that family can ride along comfortably and safely.

This gave me a good laugh. I can still feel Dad's elbows bouncing off my head when I wasn't paying attention and he decided to turn one of the two-cylinders around.

JB, I don't think we've discussed tracks in your thread yet, but now that you are playing in the mud so much lately, have you given any thought to getting a tracked tractor? Either a two-track or a quadtrac? A Deere 9RX might be a bit much for you to swing now, but an older Case maybe, or an older Deere RT?

I'd imagine that means he just sells it (hybrid corn isn't grown and harvested like field corn).

Not bagging up from our own fields just selling it already bagged and ready to plant to farmers in the area.

That COVID **** shouldn't have a negative market effect on the chickens are they are almost all sold though consumer markets. The cattle on the other hand is not going to be pretty ..... I'll tell you that I am EXTREMELY glad I had a load to sell in early March and not right now. I'd lose hundreds of dollars per head if I had to sell them today if they'd even be taken by a processing plant right now. Growers are sending everything that is remotely close to the processing plants to get what they can out of them before the price falls even farther. I'll have 60 head ready to go by November-December area and I sure hope some of this **** has cleared up by them !!!

I grew up spending lots of time sitting on the floor of a Deere 4455 and laying in the back window of an IH 886. I spent days riding on the fenders of 856's, 784's, and a few other's before I was old enough to drive. They fenders had a nice hand hold to pull yourself up onto the operator platform and it worked great as a handle to hang onto when sitting on the fender.

I am grateful that we have a line of machinery that I can take the kids with while doing most things. The 7630, 7810 and STX325 all have buddy seats. The 7400 and 886 have cabs and are not bad to ride in. There is nowhere good to ride on the 5510 but the 884 has a nice fender with a handle :lol_hitti

This gave me a good laugh. I can still feel Dad's elbows bouncing off my head when I wasn't paying attention and he decided to turn one of the two-cylinders around.

Tracks in moist/soft ground are amazing. Tracks in wet/muddy ground are worse than tires. Tires have a natural way of wanting to claw their way out of the holes they're in while tracks, like on a QuadTrac, want to dive under the mud once they sink down a foot or so. Two track machines are great for long straight pulls but for our rolling hills and short little fields they'd be more of a bother than a benefit.

That all being said .... it sounds like the stupid CAPS injection pump needs to be replaced on the STX325 so while that happens we're going to ask the dealer to bring out an STX500 QuadTrac that they have on the lot. I want to try a QuadTrac to see if we like it. The only thing I don't like already is the maintenance the track systems need. Our tires are simple ... are they flat ?? Nope, OK Lets go !!!

I'd imagine that means he just sells it (hybrid corn isn't grown and harvested like field corn).
Correct ... at least partly.

I'll be a dealer for ready to plant seed corn/soybeans. Hybrid corn is grown in fields and harvested like field corn for the most part. I've got a buddy that grows a bunch of seed corn each year and it's an interesting process to watch.

Here is a link to a few videos about it ....

Spent 3 or 4 years fall plowing with a brand new 7810.
Came off a 2950, WOW what a difference! Also has a little time on a 1486 that was juiced up to low 200 hp, that had power! What a huge differnce the new iron is , quiet , powershift, lighting, and Hydraulics. I grew up on a fruit and veggie farm in NJ , our biggest tractor was a 784. Big iron is so much smoother and way more fun to run.

I'm good friends with the owners of, and used to work for, Hughes Seed Farms. There is almost no resemblance minus maybe corn plants in rows with their operation. They even pick the corn, for instance.

I was trying to portray to the guy whom I quote that there are 2 sexes, one of which needs detasseling, the other chopped or stomped off, among other things!

Soybeans, on the other hand, are pretty simple. Especially if they're not Monsanto traits :lol_hitti

That's interesting. Different companies do it different it seems. I don't know why they grow for up here but it's done like it is in the YouTube videos to the T. Huh. I'd like to see what they do by you sometime if I'm ever down that way at the right time !!!

We had a neighbor that left a field of Roundup Ready beans that he couldn't harvest because it was wet and they got a heavy snow on a few years back and he ended up disking them under in the spring. He planted alfalfa in that field the next year and the soybeans he disked down started growing. Someone turned him in as planting bin run traited beans and the guys in the black SUV's came out and burned the whole field. It was pretty stupid really even after they explained what had happened.

Thanks to both you guys for the explanation.

It rained all day yesterday so I went on a few service calls for Leedstone. One of them involved troubleshooting a pair of milking robots that appeared to have a ghost in the communication system. This wasn't the issue but it seems like I need to show the guys at work how to properly assemble a shielded RJ45EZ plug again
49833894246_869575fd55_z.jpg

That afternoon we decided to put a short piece of tile in a REALLY wet spot. This is the "tile cart" Dad built a bunch of years ago to unroll 250' rolls. It actually works very very well. Seems little now that we have the other cart though :lol_hitti
49833894536_061c30665e_z.jpg

It's been a while since we've tiled somewhere where the water ran out of the ground this fast !!!
49834199917_fa24f5df66_z.jpg

I kept digging until it stopped running out of the ground. Just crazy !!!
49834199837_a769ddca24_z.jpg

Tile laid in and backfilled. This will be really nice to be able to farm this corner again.
49834199782_8e090675e7_z.jpg

It was a nice evening so the entire little people squad and I did chores. They marched up and down the feed alley singing songs and holding hands. It was really funny !!!
49833894636_3ba0d7c362_z.jpg

That evening I started on another project that involved a 16" piece of 2" x 4" steel bar :wtf:
49833894991_4de643ef2c_z.jpg

I told them to cut it nice and clean and this is what I got :headscrat:
49833358488_e7294082b3_z.jpg

Drilling a pair of 1-3/4" holes in it .....
49833357738_f9c3c4df5e_z.jpg

Milwaukee Ice Hardened hole saws are worth EVERY PENNY !!! Spun at around 100rpm's with some used Hyd oil for lube it cut through like butter. I cut both holes in about 15 minutes !!!
49833895166_9e45101fd2_z.jpg

There have been some really nice sunsets lately. Or maybe I've been taking the time to watch them more. Either way ....
49833357818_63ee170047_z.jpg

Lily the "chicken whisper'er" was trying to get them to come close enough to pet them. It ended up working and she made a couple chicken friends :bounce:
49833357923_15a306c4f4_z.jpg

The 5510 has another Hyd leak so into the little shop it came.
49833358773_88122792e9_z.jpg

It seemed like it came from the same spot as the last time I fixed it ....
49833895031_bef2063971_z.jpg

That fitting ....
49833895041_cfd6efa47c_z.jpg

That one right there .... Last time I put a new O-Ring in and the fitting was loose this time so a simple tighten it up and it quit leaking. Good deal. Nice and simple fix

I didn't get a chance to look at the videos yet, but the rows consist of 3 sub rows (F M F) with all male headlands. Early July humans (!) in baskets (modified Hagie sprayers) pull the tassels from the Female (now) plants, and then after pollination the Male plants are stomped/cut by another modified Hagie unit (headlands brushhogged or disced in).

Come maturity, the ears are picked, such that inferior ones can be tossed before husking/shelling...all quality control by humans. It's worth the extra $ for their seed, imo.

Crazy on your neighbor...but not shocking. Not sure how the gov't let's something so tangible be licensed...

Late 70's, central Illinois, Dekalb, planted with 4 row - 3 female, 1 male or 8 row - each outside row male and middle 6 female either way, you ended up with 2 male rows, 6 female rows. If you wanted to detassle, you showed up at the town square at 6:30am. They loaded you up on school buses and took you to the fields. At the time, I was working on a baling crew. My friends were detasseling and telling me I should get on board because girls were in bikini tops detasseling. Rained out baling hay, young American boy, girls in bikinis, getting paid to ride on a machine, why not?? Why not, I'll tell you why not, we got on the machines, went about 50 yards and machine bogged down in the mud. Pushed it out, climbed back on, went less than 50 yards and stuck again. They decided to leave the machine in the mud, and spent the rest of the day slogging through the mud reaching up to pull the tassel. Hot, not a hint of a breeze, and every time you pulled a tassle, 1/4 of it went down the back of your shirt, and with the sweat, stuck to you, and itch, itch, ITCH. What about the girls you say? Hard to see them walking in the corn, and during lunch they thought it would be best to separate boys vs girls. LOL I couldn't wait to bale hay.

Ya know...I thought I "grew up" on a farm, but now I see that when Mom & Dad split when I was 12, I didn't really know squat when I left. I didn't know there were M&F corns...hell, I just learned last year that there are M&F bell peppers! Now I'm sure there's a whole lotta other M&F veggies that I have no clue of. :headscrat

One thing I do recall from my youth, was sugar cane...and I am almost positive there was corn growing on that cane. Am I wrong? We would spend many days as kids hacking into sugar canes & sucking out the sweetness. Pretty sure that was late July, into August. About 1975 in northern Arizona, if that helps any.

Oh yeah, what is that 2x4 hunk-o-steel for? Good thing you didn't say "hack it off rough" on that one. Haha!

We do but they butcher on site and process back at their location. All butcher shops are booked up for months after this silly virus thing started .....

Nosy me, what's the block of steel for?
It's going to be part of a tow cable system to go under the tractor and hook between the tile plow and a tractor in front of the tractor. Or at least that was the idea until we started shopping for a larger 4wd tractor. It's on hold now in case we end up with a green one or something other than a red one of this vintage with a similar draw bar setup.

Wow. All manual quality control and tons of humans involved in the process. That's awesome !!

Most things have a M&F variant. That's how they make more M&F versions of themselves. I don't think I'll provide a link to explain that :lol_hitti

Sugar cane is something that fascinates me. Neat machines involved in every step of the process !!

Mama Bear dropped the leader of the little people squad and I off at the local red tractor dealership to pick up our STX325. It had a bunch of stuff done to it while it was done there. Most importantly the lack of power issue was taked care of. It was a relatively inexpensive fix but we have the valves adjusted, new valve cover gaskets installed and a few other random odd ball things as long as it was down there. $1,800 later we had it back !!!
49837519412_4513ef4bce_z.jpg

It actually runs noticeably better and seems to have quite a bit more power than it did before !!
49836678783_8b73cf8958_z.jpg

Miss Lily aka the "leader of the little people squad" made a few chicken friends. She stopped and pet every chicken she could and it took FOREVER to get through the barn !!
49837218006_dea11493e5_z.jpg

I have to say .... the steer barn looks kind of neat all lit up at night with the curtains open !!!
49836678558_ab701fccac_z.jpg

Some of the other humans that drive the ol' blue'ish minivan struggle to open to rear hatch so I drew on a set of helpful instructions :bounce:
49844191587_73a21c704f_z.jpg

Some of the spots that were too wet to combine last fall have dried out a bit and I ended up disking it down. The deer have eaten all the corn so it was not a loss anymore but still felt odd ....
49843886311_8a1f77a9df_z.jpg

Today is the day to plant the test plot !!! We've got the Gator loaded up with all the different varieties and buckets and vacuum and the whole she-bang !!!
49843344148_7afc73c7da_z.jpg

The first set of varieties is on it's way into the ground !! We did 6 rows of one variety and 6 rows of another on each pass.
49843344138_a667f08983_z.jpg

Lily decided it was her job to open all the seed boxes on the planter. She kept up with us quite well !!!
49844191657_1ee47d581f_z.jpg

Gosh I like the sight of corn going into the ground !!!
49843886136_46475c6798_z.jpg

Lily put the marker sticks in the first row of each set of varieties.
49843886251_632078eb93_z.jpg

"Dad. Why is the rock wet ??"
"That is liquid fertilizer Miss Lily."
"Why are we fertilizing the rocks?"
"Gee I guess that must be why they keep coming back year after year !!"

In total we planted 12 varieties. It should be a nice plot come fall. I plan to check on it every couple days to see how things are progressing. We have nice orange sticks marking the start and finish so we know where it is once the corn grows !!
49843886201_f6761c05a3_z.jpg

Seed corn companies have special smaller plot bags with 25,000 seeds instead of 80,000 seeds and we almost always have some left over so we throw them all in the planter at the same time and plant it in the rest of the field once we're done with the test plot.
49843886211_ac1a51552d_z.jpg

Last night I noticed the floor was a little wet around the pressure tank in the basement and this morning there was a little puddle around it and around noon there was a full on stream of water running away from it .....
49843344193_707ef37d60_z.jpg

Good thing I never throw anything away and I have a perfectly good pressure tank from a few years ago that I can use in the house now :bounce:
49844191682_fa07ccf11a_z.jpg

Mom mentioned something was rattling with the Gator so we lifted it up to see what it could be.
49843886301_18984a09b9_z.jpg

Turns out the brake pads were what was rattling. No big deal !!! Whoo Hoo !!
49844191687_7c0e6803fc_z.jpg

The oats we planted are coming up !!!
49843886126_fcfd0ff463_z.jpg

The first shed is officially down !!!
49844191517_5ca8bc9af5_z.jpg

It wasn't without issue though !! This didn't hurt a bit until I pulled it out !!! Yikes

Time to start on the next one

I think the tile plow puller is more about weight than traction. Plus I think triples would be a difficult thing to manage on our narrow little roads with people that seem to think that they own the ENTIRE road. Hello !!! I'm 16' wide and weigh 15x more than you ... Please get over, I sure am trying to !!!

Miss Lily has really been learning a lot of stuff on the farm and it's been a joy watching her spit information out days/weeks later that I told her about something seemingly meaningless and random. She says she wants to be a chicken farmer and drive a tractor every day. Gosh I couldn't ask for any more than that from any of the kids !!!!

How'd you come across a spare (good) pressure tank?

Takes some foresight for that one, lol.
I cannot imagine planning that far ahead BUT I did keep it around because it was not junk and I "might" use it one day lol. We had it at the old place and used it plumbed into 4 totes to supply water to the lawn and garden. This was the first house we purchased back in 2010.
49854485253_4f763339e5_c.jpg

It was a really nicely fixed up 1920's farmhouse that needed some landscaping lovin' and we got a SMOKING deal on it !!!
49854485308_6cf19aff1a_c.jpg

The well was a hand dug well that we found under the stupid parking area in front of the Avalanche when we tore it up to put grass there. It was quite the find as we had dug up the entire yard to replant the grass after we got rid of over a dozen silly little rock gardens and planter deals. It saved us buckets of money not needing to water it all off the city provided water system. I got an identical Red Lion pump from Mom and Dad and purchased a pressure tank and a few fittings to plumb the tanks together to fill with rainwater to save from having to pump it up the 60' deep well. It all worked very well and the pump setup got brought along with us when we moved out. It was in the came corner in Dad's machine shed that it was after we moved and I went and robbed the tank off it for the house. I think I may use it in the well house on the cattle waterer line to the barn to help reduce some water hammer issues we've been having. It'll be salvaged from the house when it gets torn down and put somewhere to be used again if needed

I spent the better part of Saturday picking rocks in the skiddy. It's not so bad but is still a dusty and bouncy job.
49855506902_4b531252a4_z.jpg

It didn't take long and during a routine pickup of a rock I found on the surface I felt another rock down below. Good grief this turned into a little mining expedition before I was done !!!
49855206076_887ca1fafe_z.jpg

This is one of two decent sized rocks down in the hole.
49855507092_8215672d16_z.jpg

The second of the large rocks with all his buddies loaded up as well.
49855506887_1e4a366203_z.jpg

All covered back up. T'was quite the hole !!
49855507052_bbbeb4172a_z.jpg

Time for more disking. I happened to glance over at the harrow on the disk at the right time and saw one of the bolts that hold it to the disk had broken. In rocky fields this happens as the rear of the disk will fly up in the air when it goes over a rock and the harrow gets whiplash as it rockets up and back down.
49854667273_0ef65cde88_z.jpg

3/4" shank Grade 8 bolt snapped. That takes a bit of force !!!
49855206131_837bf5d87a_z.jpg

That 1-1/8" wrench looks small next to that 24" Diamond adjustable :lol_hitti
49855507007_bd9a9619bb_z.jpg

On Sunday Lily and Alyssa helped me de-thatch the yard with the old harrow we have. I thought we may as well try it before borrowing Dad's 318 and front mount thatcher. This seemed too work well so we shall see if it makes a difference.
49855506987_c5b37a3c25_z.jpg

The chunk of scrap grating I was using for a weight fell off after the piece of Cat5e that was holding it on snapped. I guess I should have used Cat6 :lol_hitti
49854667198_f38832f72b_z.jpg

Since we have so much going on this summer we decided to downsize the garden and only do three tubs full of stuff. Two Tomatoes and one for pumpkins for Jack-O-Lanterns !!! The little "helper" man decided to inspect them after I put them in place. He approved and gave me a high five for doing a good job
49855506982_8b83f3ccc4_z.jpg

Today is the "distance learning" day with Miss Lily. This camper thing is working out quite well. Nice and quiet and removed from the distractions in the house.

Nice, that worked out quite well

Funny how those old timers have secretive wells to save from the $$ city water
The cover had "Tomsche 1934" stamped into the bottom of it so I think it preceded the city water/sewer for quite some time. I should add that those pictures were from the house we sold before moving "Out on Quaker Road" and was built in the late 1920's. It was located on a decent sized farm back in the day and I can only how many different kinds of livestock that well supplied water for. There was a VERY large cistern in the basement of the house that the rain gutters went into as well as a really old cast iron hand pump coming out of the basement floor. We tried to get it to work but it was seized up tight.

I totally get you, road to Nephew's south farm goes through a "rural subdivision" that has built up because of a spring fed lake. City people living in the country with no clue about farm equipment. Country road is barely 20' wide and Stieger with 40' field cultivator takes all of it. There are places where you have to go into the ditch to swing around trees/mailboxes and low limbs hanging over the road. Same thing taking the combine without any head.

That's a cool setup, I wonder if it was tiled to daylight or something for overflow. I could see a pump being shot, probably would be a prime candidate for replacement.

There are a couple really nice fields we quit renting because they were down a road with lake house cabins on both sides and the road was plugged up on both sides more times than not so we couldn't get through with the equipment. If we couldn't get trough to do field work it didn't make sense to rent them. The cabin owning city folk parked with their vehicles completely on the road and it was almost impossible to get though with a pickup let alone a dual'd up tractor !!!

I don't remember as that was 5-6 years ago but I do remember thinking it was a pretty sweet setup !!!

Hey look !!!!!!! Another big rock !!!
49871821443_9c0d54182e_b.jpg

She's a big boy !!!
49872353866_3f9a768e8a_c.jpg

Too big to lift ... had to roll it to the edge of the field :wtf:
49871821483_84562eef54_b.jpg

Silly Mother Nature decided to create a frost issue for us so we covered them up for the night ... and the next 3-4 nights :(
49871822018_28eda15795_z.jpg

Leo decided to become a YouTube'r .... lol. I watched the videos and it was pretty entertaining. Lots of dirt and feet and a little bit of sky and lots of entertaining :bounce:
49871822053_7b90b15804_z.jpg

It looked like a heck of a storm brewing to the North but it didn't amount to much more than a few sprinkles ....
49872665262_7c93ae1be7_b.jpg

A few nights ago we ran our soybeans through the "new" treater that a neighbor purchased for a song and were pleasantly surprised with the results !!!
49872353986_88016e279c_z.jpg

It drops a metered amount of product and soybeans into the treater and it tumbles them up and mixes them nicely.
49871822103_2875c8dbf7_z.jpg

They come out looking like strawberry flavored soybeans. After a few runs of them looking speckled looking and silly we got them nicely coated and totally coated.
49872665322_6e21fa207b_z.jpg

Miss Lily and I started rolling the fields to be planted to soybeans and Dad showed up before we were done. Hurry up lets go !!!
49871822008_103ff06988_z.jpg

Beep Beep !!!
49872353961_9952d4f7a1_z.jpg

Time for snack !! I love this kid .... she brought me an applesauce as well !!!
49872665222_d7c4d718f6_z.jpg

One of us got restless and needed to walk around (ok it was me) so we went to look at our little lake. We spent a few minutes throwing grass into the air to see how far it'd go and got back to field work :bounce:
49872665207_e4fde64a55_z.jpg

After lunch she got a little tired so she took a nap on the floor. Lucky kid !!
49871821933_c619a8bf80_b.jpg

"Dad your feet are HUGE!!"
"Yup, my socks don't have kitties on them either"
"Well that's too bad, kitties are awesome !!"'
Silly girl !!
49872353886_e2e8323d65_z.jpg

Mama Bear sent me this. Even Leo makes time to smell the flowers. We could all take lessons from him !!!
49871821818_eec48d403c_b.jpg

All our hard work today paid off. Dad is planting the last of the soybeans right now !!
49871821468_a2cdd74066_b.jpg

PS - The shop builder guy has informed us he'll be here late next week !!! I'll finally have something interesting to post on Garage Journal !! Or rather I'll finally have a Garage build to post on Garage Journal !!!

Not so sure that Leo is smelling the flowers . . .
Looks more like he wants to know how to take it apart and put it back together . . . he's just not sure if Mama Bear would approve.

Don't fret, everything you post is interesting reading.:lol_hitti
Awwwww gee thanks

I've been using the last few thousand posts as a test project to make sure I know how to post shop construction pictures when the time comes. I think I've got it figured out so logically that means it's time for a shop to be built :lol_hitti

He can be quite destructive but we've tried to focus that into learning opportunities but yes, I couldn't agree more with you !!! He'd have had those flowers in pieces if Mama Bear would have said it was okay !!!

Mike, just curious if you will start a new thread or just post your shop build updates on this thread? I say just post them here and mix them in with all the other posts. Good to see the soybeans being planted. Is this the usual time of year or are they late/early? Thanks for the update

I guess I hadn't even thought of creating another thread for the new shop. I don't think I'm organized enough to keep two threads alive and well so all updates will be in this one. I gave some thought to putting an "index" in the first post but immediately decided against it once I saw there was 160 something pages at the time. Plus I enjoy hunting through it to find when we did something or when I broke that thing way too much to organize it just too much :lol_hitti

There, I fixed it for you. :lol_hitti
"Deconstruction" is probably a way better way to describe what he does. I do not think he tears stuff up just to be a little **** but rather he wants to know what happens if he does.

Our coffee pot quit working a few days ago and I tore it all apart and couldn't figure out why it had died. I tried putting it back together but the quality put into a $20 Black and Decker coffee pot isn't what it needs to be to be able to be taken apart and put back together. Mama Bear saw the pile of coffee pot parts and said "You wrecked it !!" To which I reminded her it's no more broken now than before, it's just broken and in more pieces now :lol_hitti

That's the farm boy "If I can take it apart, I can put it back together" The problem comes when someone else takes it apart and then says "fix this" These new fangled cellphones with pictures and video has made this a lot easier … as long as you remember to use them :)

After family funeral, stopped at 84y/o brother in laws farm. They were trying to replace a worn out bearing on combine clean grain auger. Couldn't get locking collar off to get old bearing out. He wanted me to look at it and see what I thought. Still had suit pants and dress shirt on and didn't bring change of clothes. Knew if I got my good clothes dirty, Mrs. would kill me. Ah hah, put my phone on video, handed it to him and had him circle the shaft they were working on. Viewed the video and told them they had loosened one allen set screw but on the bottom side, what they thought was a punch hole to drive collar off was another set screw. As they loosened it, the whole works fell off LOL They had been working on it for an hour and was getting ready to use the hot wrench on it LOL

The first corn we planted is up !! Lots of stalks poking through the ground :bounce:
49879753512_98b0fe6a7a_z.jpg

Ooooo look !!! A RAM mount on the Gator !!!
49879753482_75640871e5_z.jpg

I drilled through the dash and mounted the RAM mount .... wait ... with bent bolts ?!?! .... Hmmmm .....
49879441656_f8e00943a9_z.jpg

Not bent bolts, just a rusty piece of angle iron :lol_hitti
49878910748_34d1f8facb_z.jpg

The next project is going to use a piece of thick flat plate and some broken stalk chopper knives. Never throw anything away !!! You'll never know what you'll use it for
49878910718_8c887746dc_z.jpg

I need to try to copy this receiver mount for the 7500 receiver complete with the little de-wandering pins.
49879441461_177212a27f_z.jpg

Those pins fit into these little holes and help to keep the receiver from rattling off the mount.
49878910708_85fff4a7f5_z.jpg

After breaking a drill bit off and having to drill new holes I got a pair of nails through the plate and cut them off to the right height to use as the de-wandering pins. Should work !!
49878910683_c0801315a1_z.jpg

All welded up and ready to go on the Gator !!
49879753347_f4b9d7d1ec_z.jpg

Receiver mounted to the top of the roll cage.
49879441481_5632cfd42e_z.jpg

Monitor is mounted on the RAM mount as well :bounce:
49879753257_ee9c75c196_z.jpg

It's all powered up and seems to work !! The idea with this setup is to be able to survey ground for tiling ahead of having the tile plow onsite. It'll be a lot faster to go onsite with the Gator and drive around then mess around with the tractor and plow while laying things out. Lots of !!!!!! in this post because I'm VERY excited for this setup on the Gator and how much time it'll save us !!!

Good thinking!!! Not only easier to maneuver around than the tractor but less cost to operate and putting wear and tear on a $10,000+ piece of equipment versus $100,000+!!!

AND you shouldn't have to hook 3 tractors to it when you get it stuck!!!
Notice I said "when" not "if" LOL
