Next project auto steer on gator?

That's doable. With the right power steering setup and an ATU300 kit we can make that happen I think.

Doesn't take a whole lot to power up a receiver and display, but autosteer means getting into the machine and since autosteer controllers are setup for hydraulic steering, we'd have to change that or change the Gator's steering system which is either manual or electric.

I'd like to get JB into a new Deere with AutoTrac Turn Automation and Machine Sync. He wouldn't know what to do with his hands!

I know with the old styles, you don't want your fingers between the steering wheel and the control unit :) That's a placement you only make a couple of times before lesson learned LOL

Good thinking!!! Not only easier to maneuver around than the tractor but less cost to operate and putting wear and tear on a $10,000+ piece of equipment versus $100,000+!!!

AND you shouldn't have to hook 3 tractors to it when you get it stuck!!!
Notice I said "when" not "if" LOL
It should be easier to scout and survey with the Gator than the tractor and hopefully we don't get stuck as fast lol !!!

Next project auto steer on gator?
We need auto steer on MANY other things before the gator :lol_hitti

Okay well I'm just going to leave that one alone

The ol' finger between the roller wheel and steering wheel kind of pinch sounds like it might tickle a little :wtf:

The chickens finally left "only" 6 days behind schedule. They were pretty large !!! It is always nice to see everything all washed up !!!
49898768102_7f64e48daf_z.jpg

Nice and clean again .... at least for a few months :bounce:
49897945233_0c6527aa41_z.jpg

The chick carrying dealio was a tad close to the tunnel fans and got a little dusty :lol_hitti
49898768192_dcd1874bb9_z.jpg

Time to blow out the chicken barn !!
49897944583_79a5a0accd_z.jpg

Even with 8 - 54" fans sucking 200,000cfm out it still gets dusty !!
49898768237_ab690a8c16_z.jpg

Cleaning POOOOOOOOP :bounce:
49898463061_6fa663e9f3_z.jpg

We've been waiting to plant the last field of corn until the chickens were gone so we could spread the manure on that field. Dad was taking it out as fast as I could get it out of the barn !!!
49898768677_619f982007_z.jpg

Since the chicken barn is empty a co-worker and I headed up to work on a camera/WiFi project for a few days. Of course the Wok came along :bounce:
49898768527_9956e3ce64_z.jpg

An almost perfect ribeye. Just delicious !!
49897944918_54ca14f841_z.jpg

Ham and cheese ... and onion and bacon
49897944818_5074f9ecc0_z.jpg

I fried up all the potatoes and onions that were left on the last day. They make for GREAT reheated leftovers
49898768157_3ecd2826e2_z.jpg

The first night back I saw a puddle in the bedpack near a waterer .....
49897944738_b3f419a2d0_z.jpg

The hydraulic hose seems to have rotted through :headscrat

The building tear down continues. The kiddos were "helping" :bounce:
49900877036_0907701687_z.jpg

We made a good dent in this one this evening !!

The siding on that building looks relatively new...is it?

Man, that was a whole lotta dust in the chicken barn, looks like it even fogged up your camera lens for a bit. :D

What are your plans for all that corrugated metal once off the old Shed? That would make a great addition to the back wall of my garage project!

I don't know how old it is exactly but do know it was built after 1963 and before 2014 :lol_hitti

No camera fog there, it was so dusty i could hardly see what was going on !!

If you want it come get it !!

I put some on the ceiling of the 16'x24' "garage" area I finished out in my hayshed and although the price was right I wish I'd have gotten new bright white stuff. It looks okay and I don't anticipate working in there too much where the bright ceiling would have been a beneficial deal I guess. It was an experiment to see how it looked and I don't hate it but I won't be putting in on the new shop ceiling :lol_hitti

The building tear down continues with Leo "I'm pinchering Dad !!" everything he can :lol_hitti
49909212437_4541fb2181_z.jpg

Progress is happening
49908911666_ca9186b9b4_z.jpg

That battery powered brushless chainsaw is going to purrrrr like a 9.9 Johnson with that 2-stroke outboard oil in it :bounce:
49908911681_7f9def31b8_z.jpg

We got a bunch of much needed rain over the weekend and Pops and I started on the roof as soon as it was dried off. The guy that built this shed REALLY didn't want the tin to blow off. There are an absurd amount of nails in this thing !!!
49909212407_51f1939cba_z.jpg

Well now that the other shed is down I thought it was time to get the M out of there. I'd hate for a bird to poop on it or something to fall from the sky on it :lol_hitti
49908911511_118fe097b2_z.jpg

This equipment mover I built is sure handy. It moves trailers and narrow front tractors as well !!
49909212422_b646ac56ce_z.jpg

I put a battery in it thinking maybe just maybe it'd start right up. Nope.
49908911451_3edb2ee4db_z.jpg

The starter solenoid clicked but nothing after that. I checked and had voltage to the starter. Off it comes to see what is wrong.
49908911581_a2fd9af1c5_z.jpg

Nice new fuel line :bounce:
49908396643_05577f475d_z.jpg

Lots of crunchy starter wires in here. Pretty sure this is why the starter doesn't work !!
49909212477_01d50284c0_z.jpg

OOOOOO !!!!! New wires !!!!!
49908911526_c67d1bee4e_z.jpg

Well it cranks over now and we got it to go by squirting some ether into the vacuum test port but it died as soon as it ran out of ether. So off comes the carb !!
49908911691_f9002ec050_z.jpg

Looks like I put orange juice in it last time it ran :wtf: I cleaned it out, filled the bowel with fresh stuff, freeded up all the little parts and pieces inside it and once reassembled it fired right off !!!
49908396783_fd2a460d7f_z.jpg

Next up was a bent-ish unloading auger on the combine. The bearing on the non-drive side was frozen on and I had to cut it off
49908396763_93c2dc370b_z.jpg

I was pretty sure the auger was going to be junk because it's bent but now it's surly junk :headscrat
49908396588_d810d8e06b_z.jpg

Bang bang bonk bonk and now the bearing holder in the grain tank itself needs repair. Two steps forward and one step back :(
49908911631_e37995bcf8_z.jpg

The auger is finally out !! The bent shaft was discovered while Dad was replacing the drive gears and saw the one gear had a wobble to it.
49908396688_9a76f274f1_z.jpg

At first glance it looks fine .....
49909212552_e9e42c2bdc_z.jpg

Any guess as to what happened here to twist the shaft on this unloading auger ? It's the horizontal auger that brings the grain over to the vertical auger that unloads the grain into a wagon. I'll give you a hint .... I'm guessing it was parked outside, got snowed in while there was corn in the tank, then warmed up and melted the snow. Then it was up to the farmer to screw it up after that. I'm guessing he kept engaging the unload system until it broke free and ended up twisting that 1" shaft. Okay well I guess that was a pretty good hint :lol_hitti

Yep, either ice or a leftover tool after a repair. Thats why the new ones all have belts, you burn a belt off but the shaft remains. Still frustrating, but less downtime.

Belts are a much better idea. More potential maintainance issues but I'd rather blow off a belt than have to replace an auger

Pops called and said he got a flat tire whilst hauling corn to town so I loaded up the Quaker Road recovery rig and headed out !!
49912399038_e2fa6c5827_z.jpg

Huh. Yup that looks flat to me !!
49912916091_8dfc0b0353_z.jpg

The tire blew while he was at a stop sign on a busy road so he pulled them across the intersection and parked in the elevators yard so he was as out of the way as possible.
49913212957_7dc9a60d7c_z.jpg

Never good when you take a tire and rim off independent of each other :headscrat
49912916081_eabb8fd3c3_z.jpg

Look at that nice not flat spare tire on there
49913212992_20f4bf5109_z.jpg

I think a tube and a couple LARGE patches and it'd be good to go again !!
49912915966_d51b254ab7_z.jpg

That'd make a nice fire pit .... The new rim was $285 and now that it's kinda artwork that makes it out to be about a $500 fire pit. I'll ship it to you for that if you want. What a good deal !!!
49912398898_27ca0ec57a_z.jpg

New Used spare tire and a brand new rim ready to go. Hopefully it's not needed anytime soon.
49913212972_dcb564c4f4_z.jpg

21hrs later we have another flat. It was the spare we put on yesterday
49912916016_8012d0a731_z.jpg

Seems the sidewall gave out on this one and there is a decent sized leak. At least it was in the farm yard this time and not out on the open road !!
49912398883_e5cb209f30_z.jpg

Lily had to see how fast she could run in a circle on the old tire :lol_hitti

LOL did a number on that rim!

Last night, taught my Granddaughter how to find a low tire on her Honda, how to find the offending nail and put in a plug. When we got done her comment "good to know how to do that, and what I'm getting for my repair money" :)

That moment when someone realizes they can be self sufficient with something is a good one to witness !!

That is a pretty sweet looking machine !!!!

That is a anti rattle tapered keyway, used by the monks in Tibet about 1400's, so that the bamboo key would not rattle loose......LOL
I called the monks and they do not make a bamboo replacement so I think it's going to have to be a Schoup or CNH replacement part :bounce:

Saw this and thought about you guys....need to find a chicken buddy and split own one:
That is a pretty neat looking deal. Gold'N'Plumb used to use automated catchers but they were too hard on the chickens so they went back to using a crew of 6-8 people to hand catch them. That machine looks like it's way nicer than the ones Gold'N'Plump used to use though !!

Lily has been trying to make some steer friends and I think she's finally done it !!
49925112117_e9783e64bb_z.jpg

Just as the mixer was filling up with corn the bin ran empty and we had to put the sweep in
49925112082_d605e9f0d2_z.jpg

It's not that big of a deal, it just takes a bit off time to get it all setup and going.
49924286793_630b855dbc_z.jpg

#65 wanted to lick Lily. She wasn't as sure this was a good idea :lol_hitti
49925112067_4af7d7d23c_z.jpg

Well .... getting to be that time of year again. Time to start cutting grass
49924810136_771718a278_z.jpg

Okay well the grass can wait. We kept taking buildings apart instead
49925112157_22c2b40e2c_b.jpg

We made a decent amount of progress in just one afternoon !!
49924810061_db5f7099e4_b.jpg

It sure is starting to look different around here
49924286818_ec5425ef42_z.jpg

In the process of cleaning stuff up I think I stumbled upon a pretty decent idea to store some steel lengths !!

Love that scaffold! Even I'd feel safe on that (hate working at height).
Gary
It's MUCH better than a ladder for sure but requires an additional person to run it all. All in it's way better and safer !!!

What does Lily think of the sound of 100 head crunching corn :)
She is quite focused on making sure they're all still in the barn and counting them all each day :)

This is the home-converted forklift we're borrowing from a neighbor. It works quite well but the 3pt top link is mounted WAY too high on it to lift up nicely. The guy that built it didn't own a tractor and put them where he thought they'd work. Oh well.
49930968237_17180e13bb_z.jpg

The top link bracket should be moved about a foot lower to make it right.
49930149028_e3875ea3f0_z.jpg

I buzzed the bracket off and got it positioned where it should be and it started to rain before I could weld it back on. Gee if only I had a indoor space large enough to work on stuff this large :lol_hitti

I had one of those that I front mounted on a tractor.

It was awkward without rear wheel steer but I used it to haul pallets of turf out of the field. One pallet in front two on the rear three point hitch.

I have been trying VERY hard to keep my nice new buildings nice and new and clean for as long as possible BUT I'm quite sure you are correct about that .... it'll have a few things going on and I won't be able to get it all in. I have the best of intentions to stick to using the four areas in the shop for their purposes but we shall see. Behind the little overhead door will be space for heated parking, the weld fab area will be for that, the area between the office/weld fab area and the big door will be for the longer term projects and the space inside the big overhead will be for the right now it's gotta be fixed things. We shall see if I can keep it that way :lol_hitti

Thank you or checking in and following along !!!

I think I missed the reason the sheds are coming down, is for a new barn, shop or the new house Mrs. Quaker Road wants & needs?
They are working on falling down all on their own BUT we intend to take everything down, tear up the concrete under it all, dig out all the slop that is left, haul in thousands of yards of fill and build a new house where this whole mess is.

I had one of those that I front mounted on a tractor.

I bet that would be quite handy !! Like a 4wd forklift on steroids kind of handy !!!

Once the 3pt top link was moved down the forklift basket lifter deal was WAY nicer to use !! It actually lifted up without wanting to smash into the tractor all the time
49932723542_7ecee6263d_z.jpg

We made all kinds of progress today and got the entire shed down minus most of the poles !!!
49931898253_9bb084aa35_z.jpg

It is sort of strange being able to see everything out there :wtf:
49932723532_61fb65a915_z.jpg

We had some helpers today and decided potatoes and some steak would be a decent thank you
49932723497_b6465c7bdf_z.jpg

We were all hot and sweaty and the kiddos wanted to have a "picnic" so we ate outside in the driveway :bounce:
49932410651_44cd265ae4_z.jpg

We've talked about getting a construction dumpster and throwing all the poles and treated lumber in there but I'm going to try to work it though our regular dumpster one tote at a time. It shouldn't take too long and it'll all be gone. Plus I'm already paying for this so I may as well fill it up !!
49932723527_ac713c71d6_z.jpg

I started pulling the poles out of the ground once the kiddos were in bed until .....
49932723467_a2ca154d02_z.jpg

I felt the skid loader going over a bump every so often while driving. It seems I got a little careless and ran over a chunk with a few nails in it. Two in the 2x4 and one by itself. Going to be a total of 6 plugs in this tire now once it's repaired :lol_hitti

I didn't expect the skiddy to take pneumatic tires. I guess without suspension solid tires would be violent.

Solid tires exist but are close to $500/ea and for what we use it for they're way too much money for the benefit. These are in the $170ish area and last for 800-1000 running hours.

I got that tire patched. I think three plugs inside a 3" circle has to be some sort of record :lol_hitti
49946604668_581467d548_z.jpg

Dad and I pulled the rest of the posts out with a chain as that seemed to be the less tire-flatting way. Some of these poles were in the ground well over 6' :wtf:
49947105886_d28d8da2e1_z.jpg

Dad hit a nail while cutting up the posts and really did a number on the chain so he sharpened and sharpened and sharpened until it was back to being functional. The kids kept picking up random junk and pretending it was the most elaborate things you've ever seen. It was quite entertaining to watch them do stuff :bounce:
49947105866_20a8e1be44_z.jpg

The second of 4 sheds is totally down !!! Leo was trying his hardest to fill in all the holes the poles left with rocks and dirt. He kept walking back and forth scooping dirt up in a little toy shovel and filling each hole up with a little bit at a time :lol_hitti
49947105851_cc56809d00_z.jpg

He helped me in the chicken barn for a while one day this week and I decided this was the easiest way for him to wash his little hands

that top link looks tiny for the forklift 3pt. i'm sure its fine just proportionally looks like the fusible link for that setup.

Funny stuff bud. I didn't realize you had so many of those old sheds there. What were their original purposes? Just equipment storage? They must have been added one by one over the years otherwise a larger shed would have been built.

I agree on the pneumatic tires. Plus, the solid ones are a much harsher ride and the amount of time you guys spend in a bobcat bouncing across a field chasing round bales is way to high to enjoy a solid tire ride. But they do last forever on smooth concrete.

Time to upgrade the sink with a shower head.
Got a feeling he be needing it :lol_hitti
Lol yeah. He's definitely a messy kid but he sure has fun getting dirty !!!

that top link looks tiny for the forklift 3pt. I'm sure its fine just proportionally looks like the fusible link for that setup.
It's the top link from my 5510. The one for the 7400 busted when Dad lifted it too high and snapped one of the eyes off. That was the reason for the bracket relocating. The location was way off and it put A LOT of stress on the top link.

In total we've torn down three sheds and four remain. Two will stay for now but the other two will have to go. The three we torn down so far were used as a feeding shed and cattle sheds. The first was four years ago and on page 8 of this thread :) The ones left are a hoop shed that was used as a calving barn and machine shed and the old hayshed. I think they were all built within a few years of each other but the tin tells a different story. Looks like the hoop sheds were built first and the others added later.

I cannot imagine picking rocks or picking up bales with solid tires. I ran a skiddy with them when I worked at a recycling center and that was miserable enough and it was always on smooth concrete. We put an extra 4" thick piece of foam on the seat before we'd drive it. It helped a bit but was still pretty rough :(

Alyssa and Lily have been helping with chores for the last few days and it's been rather entertaining watching Lily show Alyssa how to do things. Lily spend one flock in the barn and now she's an expert :lol_hitti

Time to cut the grass finally. I usually try as hard as I can to wait until June 1st to cut the first time but it was getting pretty shaggy :lol_hitti

JBL: it's been a while since I stopped in and looks like you are just as busy maybe more than ever. thanks for showing Leo in the sink cause I think I might build that exact faucet for my bride's outdoor sink. nothing better than making copper pipe with a couple shut off valves work and I probably have all that sitting in a box here somewhere.

here's a thread i bet you'll like if you haven't seen it cause more than a few HANDY GJ members post their stuff and comment on it.

did you run over a pitch fork (I know you hit a board with nails in it)? I bet having some skills with TIRE REPAIR saves you and dad thousands of dollars every year. that said it's never a good or great time to have a flat on the highway or anywhere for that matter i'm guessing.

cheers and keep up the good work

Keep It Simple was the idea with the chicken barn faucet. Pretty unlikely that a 1/2" ball valve will start leaking anytime in the next 40yrs so it should outlast me and that barn :lol_hitti

I have not seen that forklift thread but I just spent way too much time going through it and saving some of the pictures. Thanks Drives !!!

I wouldn't say skills with tire repair, more of a beating my head against a wall until I get it to work kind of deal. In the end they plugs always hold .... it's the beginning and middle parts that make me have to put a couple quarters in the swear jar
