I think i'd put them all in conduit on the inside along the ladder. using some T LBs for the sensor heights.

**** that's a good idea to use markers for where auger wheels should go.

It's the only one done so far but it sure would be nice to have a few more by a few of the bins but this one was the most important.

Nice progress! We got beans finished up yesterday...not sure when the last time beans were done before corn was for us.

I think we should do your tire marking for the auger but use some rather stout poured concrete blocks to give us tie down points. Had an unexpected wind storm and lost a 113' auger after mother nature rolled it over and ruined the tube. We usually tie the augers to the top of the bin. Haven't lost one yet !! That 10x71 was up there in 40mph gusts and was nice and solid

If you pour some pyramid shaped chunks in the ground with some hooks poured into them you could chain the axle down to them. We set a skid loader bucket of rocks on the axle of the wet bin auger to keep it a little more planted and so far so good

That is a fantastic idea !!! There are quite a few uses I could see for those proximity sensors. The wet bin is a great starting point !!!

The tech in our machinery is fairly old school compared to what's out there in the new stuff today. Combines talking to grain cart tractors, fully automatous tractors and tractors that turn themselves around at the end of the fields

Things are going pretty well so far. We have around 40 acres of corn left and have been chewing on tillage the last day or two while the weather has been kind of crappy .....

The camper needed to be winterized and I was sick of dumping 6 gallons of RV Slop into the holding tank and having to flush it out for an hour to get it all out. I got a few valves and a Tee and now ......

it is not bad at all. It is easily on par with riding in a new vehicle. It is soundproof enough that you can easily have a conversation with someone in the passenger seat but yet you can hear if something doesn't sound quite right with how the machine is running behind you.

We weighed all the large looking cattle in the barn and had enough to fill a semi that were ready to go to market. I don't have a loading chute for a semi out here yet so they brought a gooseneck trailer and we loaded them into it and they transferred them into the semi. It worked quite well actually.


This last week has been rather nasty. It has snowed a few times now and it's messing lots of things up. The dirtwork guys toys showed up to level out a house pad and their stuff got snowed on.


The combine is all warm and happy in the shop just waiting to go out in the cold to finish combining the last of the corn


I went out yesterday to do some disking and although it worked well it was a little smeary because it was in that 31F area and things were all melty.


Dad was spreading pen pack from the steer barn so this needs to be worked in before the ground freezes solid. It's 17F right now and I'm going to get it dug in this morning after chores. The top layer should be frozen and it shouldn't be as sloppy anymore but the disk still will cut in though that little bit of frost.

A co-worker asked if I could mix him up some horse feed. I said duh, I can do anything

Since it was all muddy and wet from digging in the mud there was mud packed in a few places in the disk that froze and caused them to not turn. Out comes the "chisel" and "hammer" to get it out of there


Yesterday the tractor was slipping around 25%. 8% slip today was a major improvement so waiting for the freezing of the mud and top layer was a good idea

Since it was working well to dig into the mildly frozen ground Dad started hauling chicken pooooooooooooooooooop on the field.


I've never done tillage in snow before but it's working very very well !!!


Little Miss got sleepy from all the learning so she laid down and took a snooze for a little bit before lunch.


And here come the seagulls after the all the goodies that the disk dug up


After lunch Miss Lily decided to start reading the user manual for the tractor to make sure I knew what all the buttons do


By early afternoon the sun had warmed up the ground enough that we were slipping WAY too much again


We decided to work in the shop and setup some racking. There will be another row at the very top yet that I won't be able to get to with my skid loader but whenever it is that a forklift finds a home in the shop it'll be useable.

Working between two shops at home is turning into a PITA so it's time to move some things into the new shop finally !!!


I suggested ratchet strapping the toolbox to the skid loader and Pops said "Naw, I'll hold it !!" We made it up there without issue so he did a good job


The wall dividing the utility room and bathroom is complete minus a door.


Time to take a break with some microwave popcorn. Grandpa was teaching Miss Lily about seed corn. Maybe she can come with me and help on sales calls


This is Missy. She is our shop cat. She will turn into the outside the shop cat soon if she eats more of my popcorn !!!!


The little people play hard enough that their boots do not dry out before morning on their own so we now have a small fleet of Peet boot dryers. Every morning when they put their warm dry boots on they all sigh and giggle and go "Oh they're so warm !!" and do lots of silly dancing in their warm dry boots. I guess that makes them worth every one of the 4,000 pennies that each boot dryers set me back

Im with the kiddos on the bootdryer. I use one everyday and I get cranky if I have to put on cold wet boots. My friends used to laugh when Id pack it up and take it with me on the road. But my boots were always dry in the morning.

Glad to see move-in is underway. Im surprised and relieved the combine fits in the shed with those hopper extensions on. Good planning on your part!

From Dec 1st to April 30th my quality of life is 100% tied to the function of the boot drier and the boots that I wear 8:30 to 4:00 daily. At work we've got like 5 of them that hold 40 pair each. They don't smell good, but everybody gets to have warm dry feet so it's worth the smell. Also makes your boots last longer, which is a plus with how much they cost these days.

I got a single boot dryer last fall I think and it's been super nice. One of those luxury items you don't realize is a complete necessity until you use one !!

The combine fits in Dad's she'd with a 13'6" door but we need to drop the bubble up auger down. There is an inch too spare but it fits. It fits through this 16' door without an issue

May I as what you do that you leave your boots at work each day ?? Seems like a GIANT exhaust fan would be a good idea with that many boots drying to get out a the stink !!

I'm a ski instructor, haha! Yes, our locker room has exhaust fans which are very important with 180 ski instructors and our boots.

The dirt work will be the only thing happening in 2020 but there will be lots of progress shots once construction begins !! If it begins .... Lots of uncertainty going into next year with materials prices

The muck is just really soggy black dirt so it got spread around the outside of the house footprint. We needed fill for the back slopes so it worked out well.

The truck holds around 28yds I believe.

I think SIP panels are a great idea, just be careful with using them for your roof.

I think SIP panels are a great idea, just be careful with using them for your roof.

I think we'd still go with a conventional truss roof for those reasons. We don't plan to have a vaulted interior ceiling so we'd have a truss of sorts anyway I think ....

Camso SKS732's. This is the first set of tires that are not Bobcat Heavy Duty tires that have been on the farm in a loooooooooooooooong time. Time to give something else a shot as they were considerably less expensive and have A TON of lug !!!


The main parts of the plumbing is done ... ish .... There will be a double SS sink in here sometime soon. The other unused 1/2" valves are for a water heater and shower. I'm not sure if I like it the way it is yet but it works for now

That's why the company I work for (Parker Hannifin) likes to hire farm raised kids with engineering degrees. They know how to work, they know how to fix stuff, and they got the college smarts.

I love my Peat dryer. Agreed that they aren't cheap for $40 but they are worth every penny. My dad liked it so much he got one as well. We've always had a bigger fan unit but a small, radient one is so much handier to use every night.
