I'm in rural Ohio too and am getting ready to do the lighting on my new pole barn. The metal halide lights (usually with dawn/dusk sensors) look to be the popular choice around here. I actually found a couple w/sensors at work (e-recycler) that are missing the bulbs that will probably end up on the front of mine. I'll probably just put a cheapie motion sensor light by the service door. I know what you mean about dark rural areas and long driveways...nothing like almost hitting a deer or two every week going down your driveway ;)

It depends on how much you are wanting to light it up. You could take one 1000 or 1500 watt Metal Halide SportLighter and make it look like daylight out there. Several options on the lighting situation.

You could take a couple of cheapo 175 watt Mercury Vapor security lights on the arms and light it up enough with those. Then splurge and get one SportLighter and put it on a switch and just run it when you really need to light it up out there.
