Outdoor 50 AMP

Until I get my 'big wire project' completed I'd like to be able to use my welder, and now that it's winter running the 100' extension off the dryer out the door isn't too friendly for keeping the house warm, and critters out :D :D By putting in an outdoor outlet I can get by with my 25' extension cord which is MUCH EASIER to handle than the 100'.

Will also fit the above, obviously not using the neutral. Extension cord is for single device, no 120v outlet.

Complete Plan:
- 50A Receptacle (Attached to 4"x4" support on outer edge of deck. I will also add a wood 'cover' to keep snow/rain 100% off this outlet)
- 6GA For the 2 hot legs
- 8GA Ground Wire
- 2" SCH 80 PVC Conduit
Will be attached to side of house as well as under deck from house main breaker box to 50AMP outdoor rated outlet/box.

I did something similar to that, except I used an RV sub panel. It gave me breakers and regular 20 amp outlets as well. Of course I had the perfect location on the outside wall directly behind my main panel.

I don't have any white wire for neutral, although having 120v outlets there may be really really handy too since I have none on ground level.

I'll have to look into this option, and just running a neutral so I can run 120v outlet + the 50A. That would prove more useful overall!

This is the same type I used on my old house to plug my RV in while parked alongside the house. I had also used it for my welder on a couple of occasions for larger coaches and/or trailers that I didn't want to move things around to accommodate back to the shop when I had some welding to do on them.

This one got rated better, looks easier to work on, and has room for adding additional breaker/outlet + it has a 30AMP additional style outlet.

For <$30 more seems like the right choice.

Going to go with the above, and 1" conduit SCH80, not sure why I said 2" earlier, a bit over kill for #6 wire :)

I assume u got your numbers mixed up as that first link is a 5-50r and a 15-50p is for 3 phase 240v.

Without additional breakers, it is not possible to have a 120v general purpose outlet off of a 50a circuit.

What welder do you have? Where did we come up with 2 inch pipe in this scheme? If you arte piping wire 2 number 8 and a 10 and it will go thru 3/4. You could add other stuff but you want to toss another 200$ at it when a simple install will work fine and not complicate the **** out of it.

I was replying to someone else stating they had a box with both built-in, and as I already mentioned I went with a box that has additional breakers, and 120v outlet built-in, and room for additional if needed.

As I already mentioned I'm not sure why I said 2", going with 1" to make it easy to pull/deal with over 3/4". Not too sure about 'tossing $200' or where that came from, or if you're speculating at tossing other wires, and random panels attached off the conduit? Either way I already have extra 6GA wire for hots and 8GA ground, just need to get some white wire, and the conduit and outlet/panel total cost will be under 200$ :thumbup:

powermig 255, and tig 225 on the welders though :)
