Has anyone body mounted a hose reel outside of their shop?

We're been talking about it for years.

We have a retractable hose reel that's not in use. Made for inside use.

Do they sell covers for outside use?

Or would It b better to buy a retractable air hose reel made to be mounted on an Exterior wall?

I could make a cover, but the extra time involved might put the kibosh to the project.

Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Preferably, something, not made in China

I mounted mine to the ceiling, just inside the doors. Then I buffed the top of my metal door frame so it wouldn't chafe the hose as it rubbed the door frame while I drag the hose outside.

I didn't mount an outside one because of sunlight degradation, and because it get's -40 here, so the hose would just freeze solid.

Just get a manual reel and mount it where you need it. Way cheaper and unless you need more than 100 feet of hose to spool off, it holds plenty of hose.
My wife likes the retractable reel we have inside the shed.

She's not a big fan of the manual reel we have inside another shed

I have a retractible underneath my carport (about 1 foot from the edge of the roof, so it gets subject to rain a bit), it's held up for about 6 years now. I can't remember what brand it was now, I'll look it up. It wasn't the cheapest one, but it's very sturdy.

I fully intended to make a little metal "cover" for it out of plywood and sheet metal flashing, but never got around to doing that.

Lots of service truck mounted reels for a variety of uses... Welding leads, air, hydraulics, grease etc. When feasible they try and mount them behind a door, but can be done exposed. Be prepared for sticker shock if you price a Cox or Hannay new. I'd probably just mount the same one you have inside outside with a basic roof/cover to shelter it from direct rainfall and see how it does

Mount it to a HF moving dolly.
Stored indoors, and can be used just about anywhere.

For a while I had my 8 gallon air compressor mounted on a radio flyer cart I restored (got it in pieces). Worked well.

This is bonkers. I was going to ask the same exact question this morning about an outdoor reel.

Following along with eager anticipation……
