Outdoor building lights

I have searched from one end of the internet to the other looking for outside barn lights. All I could find were the old fashioned round lights with a bulb sticking out the bottom.

So I grabbed some 12 gauge steel and the welder and made my own. They are approx 2' high and 12' x 12' at the bottom.

I installed a surface mount 30W LED fixture inside the housing so that it is more of a 'downlight" and not a direct exposed light.

I am going for the rusty look so they are bare steel right now. Once they rust to the right texture/color, I think I will treat them with something to help prevent them from rusting away.

Thanks for the positive comments.

I'm hoping that it's too bright for the wasps ! There are not any recessed areas or cracks for insects to hide in, so really hoping that won't be an issue. I know it looks like the top piece leaves a gap all the way around, but that area is actually blocked off by a thick piece of lexan that adds a little bling.

Looks good! I can never seem to find any outdoor lights I like either.

Nicely done.

What is the bulb/light that you used? What was the cost of each light?

I like that they're pretty large but not too large. Really nice work. It always looks odd, to me, when a big/tall building has a dinky light on it.

Love them!

Gotta say for functional lights at night for me though, I would have 3 - 1 over each door - and not two over empty walls :)

Brent......thanks for the comments. I had some "off the shelf" lights up there first but they looked wimpy. Just kinda out of scale. Hard to find any BIG exterior lights.

I like the fact that you made them, that's great. I agree with Ishiboo, think I would have mounted 3 one on each door centered. If those are 30w, the 50's much be blinding.
