Me and friend have a garage together that we use frequently and the entrance is through some gates then about 50 yards down the road is the garage. We are hoping to run some lights out there by gate entrance that one could flip on remotely either through a phone app or a physical button like a remote control. So you drive up, hit the switch, and lights flip on to help guide you in.

Looking for any recommendations if you have personal experience with anything like this, please drop a comment!

If you have the same garage door opener with multiple buttons...

...the other buttons could be programmed to turn on a light using a remote switch like this....

See... http://www.chamberlain.com/clicker-and-accessories/wireless-accessories/remote-light-control

Just mount this in a weatherproof plastic box with a power outlet, add a plug to the light and your all set.
I have two of these and use it one to disarm an alarm before I push the garage door opener...works great!

I have that Chamberlain remote light switch and it works great. The best part is you can buy a couple of remotes for the two of you.

I also wanted to use a remote on an extension cord out in the yard. So I got a weatherproof remote switch like this for about $15. Either one will work and they each have their pros/cons.
