Outdoor storage box

Trying to find some sort of weather proof storage for outdoors.

It would be for storage of chainsaw, associated tools, oils, felling helmet, etc at my firewood processor.

Ideal would be a JoBox type box, but I'm not really wanting to spend $700+ at this point.

Found Action Packer totes that I think would work, but all of them I find aren't available here in Alaska. Either don't exist in teh stores (like at Lowes or Home Depot) or won't ship to here.

Something roughly 4ft long, 2ft wide and 2ft tall.. or larger.

Few of you are really good at find stuff online, maybe have better luck that I am?

I had one roughly that size from Contico. All plastic. Used it for years to store pool supplies at point of usage.

Too short I think. I'd have to measure my saw, but I think it's over 3ft. 24" bar and I'm pretty sure the power head is more than a foot.

Just find a deck box...they're used for storing cushions and such, available at any big box store.

The larger rubbermaid action packers that have the lid on hinges are pretty durable, I left them outside when I had a seasonal campsite they were great for RV accessories and the boat stuff. The ol' lady had the idea to get a strip of thin self stick weatherstrip for the top.

Walmart carried them at one time and also Amazon, expect sticker $$$$ shock.

Go to CL, type in ‘job box’. I did it for Anchorage, as I don’t know where you are, and there were several very good, affordable candidates.

Other good option is to build a simple shed. You could build it as small as you want and hinge the roof just like a job box.

I have been clearing some land and use a 30 year old truck tool box for a couple of chain saws and a few tools. The oil and fuel is stored in a weighted Rubbermaid Brute 44 gallon garbage can. Surprisingly, the garbage can doesn't leak at all.

Never even heard of those. Can't say I've had a reason to have deck cushions either, whatever those are!

I've got a 48X24X24 Rigid I bought at Home Depot about five years ago for about $300.00. Not sure how weatherproof it is, but the lid is gasketed and I've seen them packed into a pickup so tight that there's no way they get taken out when rain is falling.

I feel like those rigid boxes are in the back of half the pickup trucks in Los angeles. Granted, it doesn't rain a lot here but I agree that they never come out of those trucks.

Like most folks with a deck or patio I have a deck box. I also have some delta poly truck boxes, and a few rubbermade totes.

Have you searched the classifieds/CL/Fb for truck toolboxes, I know you are remote but lots of folks keep them around for the next truck, trailer or whatever and then sell them off when they are tripping over them later.

The only other thing that comes to mind is a large cooler that would fit your saw, it would be a big one, but they are surprisingly weathertight. Several schools around here use them to hold rescue ladders on the school roofs year round and they work well.

Rigid Box, or find a used Knaack Box on craigslist.

I have a Knaack that I modified to fit my truck bed and added weather stripping - seals well and very secure.

So, silly question: How cold does it need to withstand? I worry about all the plastic boxes people are suggesting, and how they will hold up to the Alaska cold.

This blog author once shared a photo of a bottle of whiskey, inverted and frozen, that had been in an exterior jacket pocket one day. You may not get that cold in your corner of AK, but I wonder if it will get too cold for most plastic totes and boxes to crack under extreme cold.

Doesn't normally get colder than around -25* at home.
