Hello,

I've done some searching and have found a lot of motion controlled dusk to dawn flood lights.

I'm looking for the same, but want to be able to turn it on from inside the house via the wifi network.

Is there anything out there that does not have a camera on it? Don't need a camera in this application.
thanks

you could have a regular spotlight fixture and put wifi bulbs in it, like these https://amzn.to/2ZwVjlx

For the motion control, If you are familiar with home hubs and sensors you can mount one somewhere and have it activate that way too. When my front door sees motion at night my hub turns on my rear porchlight and the lights in one bedroom. If my garage doors vibrate it turns on all the backhouse/garage lights.

So do you want both motion control and WiFi control over it? Thing is that if you use WiFi to interrupt power to the bulb (like with a regular switch or a WiFi bulb) then the motion control won't be able to turn it on unless it's turning it on via WiFi.

If this on a building or already wired at a remote location?

I do have a smartThings mesh network that I could control it by also.

Another smartthings user!! You can easily do this, with wifi bulbs and a constant power source.

Or, I have some lights on a Wemo wall switch, can control from the wall switch, through the wemo app, or the smartthings app. When my Skybell doorbell sees motion at night it switches the standard led lights on through the wemo switch. I can set the lights to stay on for as long as I want. Also one hack that I figured out when using wemo. If I see a motion in any of my locations motion sensors, through the smartthings app I can get it to turn on a wemo light switch or wall plug in a totally different location. Odd but useful.

I don't have to have motion control if I can control it from the inside of the house.

It's on the end of our house so not a remote location.

I like the Wemo setup you have. That might be an option as well.

I haven't started to set up any linked devices like that, but I know you can do it.
thanks for the suggestions.

Sounds like you can go with a WiFi bulb or power the fixture with a WiFi switch. If you wanted both manual and motion control I think you would need to run 3-wire from the manual switch to the motion detector so you have two power paths.

If you didn’t want dusk to dawn/motion, I would say go ZWave light switch. I have a half dozen setup this way and it’s super simple, never an issue with it. But being that you want those features, I can’t recommend Ring enough. I have several camera spotlights, security system, etc. and it’s very solid. I don’t have one, but they now have smart lights, so I wouldn’t hesitate to get them. https://shop.ring.com/products/smart-lighting-floodlight-wired

It sounds like a smart switch might be an option.

WM - We already have two ring doorbells, but I've read that the light/camera's have to be set up with an Android device. What i've read is they are difficult if not impossible to setup with an iOS phone. Any negative experience with using an iPhone to set up your ring camera lights?

You can get motion-sensor outdoor flood lights, then control the on/off function with a smart switch. Kill two birds.....
But, as others have said, if you turn the circuit off, then the motion sensor wont be able to turn on.
