Is there a NEC code that states how close outlets have to be to one another?
Can I space them at 10 feet?

These are in a storage basement.

I am not an NEC lawyer, put I have always been told one outlet evey 10 feet around the room in living space.
"non living space" may be a different rule.

In a living space, each section of a wall must have an outlet ever 12 feet or portion thereof. The common-sense reason is that you should not have to run a 6 foot lamp cord across a doorway.

In a basement storage space, it ought to be different. But you might want to use it for living space, so why not plan ahead?

For Residential Installations:
NEC 210.52 (A)(1) "Spacing, Receptacles shall be installed such that no point measured horizontally along the floor line in any wall space is more than six feet from a receptacle outlet".
NEC 210.52 (G) "Basements and Garages,
(1) At least one receptacle outlet, in addition to those for specific equipment, shall be installed in each basement, in each attached garage, and in each detached garage with electric power.
(2) Where a portion of the basement is finished into one or more habitable rooms, each separate unfinished portion shall have a receptical outlet installed in accordance with this section.

I wire using the two arm method. If I walk up to a wall and extend both arms, I expect to find at least one receptacle in that 6' or so span. If not, it needs more.
