Poking around on the webs and ran across a great example of a DIY sound enclosure for a small-medium sized compressor. Some good detailed photos of the whole assembly at the link below. Scale is obviously adjustable to your own needs. I'm not a big fan of blow-molded plastic, but the shell could really be anything that meets the weather-resistance, spatial and accessibility needs.

That looks very nice and well thought out and executed.

I would like to hear the comparison in the compressor noise without the sound reduction materials and plain plastic shed versus the finished product.

Still it is one of the nicest enclosures I have seen. Thanks for posting.

If you are forced to move annually, that is the best option I can think of.

For a permanent installation, concrete is hard to beat. It's a 150lb/cu ft of sound killing. Cinderblock, rammed earth, rock wall, cord wood wall, etc would work in a pinch. Instead of a fan, I would install a non airtight roof.
