Outside Lighting holes

Working on putting in my lighting. On the outside I want a light on the peak of both gables. The problem I have is the siding ribs are right in the middle. What do I do? How do we negotiate this with out changing my light positions? (small thing, but will drive me crazy)

Thanks,

Mark

If you're wanting super clean "OCD" install, then I'd recommend some hard plastic that you groove out in reverse shape of the siding ridge. Then steel backing plate on both sides and bolted down. Some sort of cover that conceals all this will give you the desired look . . . ie much like you'd see on the 3 pipes in bathroom shower.

Is it vinyl siding? If so you could use a matching j-block to mount the fixture to. You would only have to remove a few small pieces of siding with it being so close to the peak.

All metal siding manufacturers make foam filler strips for sealing the flat eave trim to the ribs on the siding. You will need to get these filler strips for your particular siding brand and install a flat plate over the ribs and filler strips, then mount the box to the plate. Alternately, you will need to cut a hole in the siding to slip the box through and caulk heavily to seal. The latter will be a problem if there's a structural member behind the location for the box.
