My son has a home on the lake. His wife give him string lights that seem to be popular on lake homes.

He had it plugged into an GFCI outlet. He tried turning them on this last weekend and nothing.

He went to HD and got a new GFCI. He of course turned the breaker off and when he started installing the new GFCI he said it looked burnt inside.

I told him to wait and I would help him

I am wondering if a lighting strike hit this outlet ? It was working fine last fall when he last used this outlet. There have been lots of lighting storms in the last month.

I ordered a cord-connect-outdoor green-cc-2 and will add a new cover on outlet where water cannot get in and then install the new GFCI.

Think this will make it safe ?
