outside pole barn light ideas?

I am going to put outside lights above each door on my building. it has 10x10 doors. I would like to see what others have done. not looking for dusk to dawn, just lights to turn on when needed. thanks.

What style building is it? Can you post a picture maybe? The building style can dictate what looks best if appearance is important.

I like the older style fixtures & also the one FTWingRiders posted, but my house & garage are a contemporary style so I think it could look out of place.

All I did was install recessed cans in the soffit that shine straight down but I don't have any pics that show them. I also have regular flood lights on the corner of my house that light up the front of the garage since it's less than 20' away.

Are you wanting just enough light to see in the immediate area for walking, or do you want to see to do work outside or out away from the building?

I put motion sensing floods on the corners of my building. The one closest to the service door closest to the house is left on all of the time so it lights up when I'm coming or going in the dark. The ones on the other corners I turn on as needed, but they still shut down if I'm not using them.

I used Kichler brand which are very reasonable on pricing.

I used small recessed lighting above each door in the soffit or overhang. They look nice and are perfect for security. They are not floods and do very little if anything for the area in front of the doors.

The only downside I have found is the bugs. They swirl around the lights and crawl up in them. When I do have to change a bulb, I get a rotten bug shower.

Mine are dusk to dawn but I hard wired the device through a switch in the garage. When it is left on the dusk to dawn device has power and works. When I flip it off, they are off. I like it.

I had a fancy light for a few years over my 12 x 12 doors and then replaced it with a huge Metal Halide. My reasoning is I had fancy basic light over the man door and I wanted to flood the entire apron in front of the doors for loading trailers etc. It works out great now.

here is a picture. its a 40x72x12. I had it put up this September. As soon as I get a little further along I plan to start a build thread. the first 2 bays are concreted as of last week, with plans to finish the rest this spring. We have been mostly working on wiring it.

Where is the building? Going to gutter it? Doesn't look like you have much overhang to protect lights from rain sheeting off the roof or worse sheets of snow avalanching off the roof.

I used these on my building. These are made by American nail plate. They have lots of different styles and arm shapes. You can cut the length of the arms as well.

This is a nice looking light, however, after seeing your building (it's nice), if you're in an area of the country that gets snow they will bend if snow builds up on your roof and slides off. I know by experience. Just something to consider.
