I watch this auction site some, and have bought some equipment off it.

https://www.purplewave.com/auction/180322/item/DP9585

I saw this box come up , and was kind of curious where it would end up, price wise. Evidently there are two guys out there with $35k that need a snap on box loaded up.

It's a pretty complete set up, and all top notch stuff. I just never see them able to sell at that price complete.

Most guys don't need everything, and couldn't afford it all if they did.

There's a ton of pictures on the site, and its a good box, that's just a big chunk of cash. Plus add in the 10% buyers premium, so the price is actually $38,500, with two days to go.

You could easily spend 100K filling a box like that with all Snap On tools. But then again, the auction company isn't going to let you pay $25.00 a week on your new score...lol. Not a lot of folks out there willing to part with that kind of money for someone else's used tools in one lump purchase.

It's not even all SO. There are Blue-Point tools in there also and other brands. If it were 100% SO stuff in great shape, then it'd be more of a reasonable price though it's going to be hard to find someone to drop that much on it.

Unless it's a rich guy who wants to buy a complete set to wrench on his exotics.

thats alot of money to drop in one shot, If you are in a position to actually need half of those tools, chances are you have most them already

Would be a good buy for someone who recently lost a similar set in a fire, and has an insurance check to cover the cost.

Ok for someone who has the money, and wants to upgrade His tools.

Thinking many of Us fit in the $25 a week group.

There's a lot of quality brand tools in there, usually it's 20% truck brand's and the rest are China specials.

That deal is a tough sell as there is a lot of money there but most can't swing that much on a purchase like that and even if i had the money i wouldn't pay that much.

I was thinking insurance, or possibly a dude outfitting a shop for his gorillas.

My buddy builds street sweepers. Big $$$. The shop has at least 2 Mr. Bigs and KRLs all over the place. They are all his, and his workers are all good dudes, either family or friends kinda environment.

He could drop $35k easy and he's pretty damn good with money...might be a dude like him....

If the tools will make someone money, help grow or sustain a profitable business, then it's worth every penny.. I seriously doubt its just some guy wanting to get a job at a local shop bidding on that.

It might be a successful businessmen, looking for tax deductible tool purchase, not of the "something for nothing" crowd.

I'm not really a snap on guy, but that really doesn't seem like a lot of money. Wouldn't the box itself run about 10 grand?

It's not hard to imagine that businessman willing to invest $40,000 and tools would inspect them in person.

I would.

Yeah, a kid just out of vo-tech school will go for a more modest set. I noticed the other day at Sears, they offer half off mechanic sets and tool boxes for new vo-tech graduates. It's a one time discount. I wonder if that's for ONE item -- like a 700 piece set or is it for all the items the kid's buying at once?

I think the difference here is presentation.. everything is well organized, well kept, and not a box filled with rusty beat up 20 year old tools.

Are you calling the guy a tool polisher? Lol

Seriously though... I wish I was rich enough to keep buying Snap-on boxes until none of my tools touched each other. Look at the ratchet drawer!

No, but if you look at some stuff on eBay - a guy that bought his "lifetime" investment worth of tools 30 years ago - now has an unorganized rusty pile of **** that looks horrible, air tools that belong in a museum, and they think they're gonna get $15 grand for it cause of the "names attached to it".. it's like some guy buying a corvette, letting it sit and rot away under a tree for a few decades - and then his sales pitch is "well it's a vette, and I paid top dollar cause they hold their value better then a Honda"

If you bought a car would you rather drive a nasty, gross, neglected corvette that runs like **** and smokes like hell everyday, or would you feel better off buying a 3 year old Honda for the same money while being comfortable and stress free everyday?
