Over-tightened the brake caliper mount bracket

I was working on the brake caliper of our Toyota mini van this morning. For some reason, I remembered the torque spec wrong for the brake caliper mounting bracket. Instead 79 ft-lb specified by Toyota, I torqued it to 91. Fortunately nothing is broken yet, and unfortunately, I just noticed it now after all is done. So how bad Is it with extra 10+ ft-lb. shall I go back in again tomorrow to correct it,or just leave it...

Leave it, 10ftlb is not enough to worry.

I'd leave it. It's good you want to work to the exact specs, but most techs, myself included, just tighten the bolts and call it done.

Most techs use impact torque so you're fine.

Shops impact them on. For small trucks/SUVs I know a few who crank down using breaker bars. Its not a component you want coming loose. Other than troubling your perfectionist OCD (I have it too so I sympathize) its not going to cause an issue.

Most of the time my impact wont take those off. I have to use a breaker bar first. I wouldn't worry about it either.

I can't believe what I'm reading!!! Reasonable real world responses. That's almost unheard of on this forum. Come on now, I just know there at least a dozen guys just chomping at the bit to tell you that... You've most assuredly stretched not only the bolt but the threaded mount as well. Also you should send the caliper out for a thorough X-ray analysis as you most likely fractured it being so tight, of course all this must be followed before these guys force you to sell it as now the entire integrity of the vehicle is in question. Or should you dare to sell it to some unsuspecting family will most likely end up dead when the bracket fails, resulting in you spending the remaining years of your life snuggling with bubba.

I'd leave it too. I woulda hit that mid torque with my impact.

Exactly. No tech breaks out the torque wrench unless its a critical part. Usually engine or hubs or such.

Engineer here that has analyzed tension and shear critical bolts in detail.

Engineers handbook has a list of all grade bolts/sizes and their recommended and max torque spec if your ever interested

I prefer a good cross thread that way it's never coming loose!
