Overhead Door Legacy 696 Sensor Wiring

Hello from WI! Our ancient garage door opener died in a recent thunderstorm, so I got another old one from my father-in-law and have it installed, but can't get the door to close without holding the wall button. All of my research points to sensor issues, so as there were no sensors with the opener I bought some Genie universal ones and can't for the life of my get them wired to work correctly. The manuals I've found online for this garage door opener (Legacy 696) do not match what I'm seeing on the back of the opener for terminals, and there's a mysterious STB port that looks like it'd need a special kind of plug. Any help would be HUGELY appreciated!

IIRC they should be connected to B2 & Y3. Make sure the sensors are aligned and then reapply power to the unit.

Thanks for your help, BrandonV! So I tried that, but the lights don't turn on on the sensors and the remotes still don't work. The only way I've been able to get power to the sensors at all is by connecting one of the wires to W1, so I've tried W1 to B2 (same as the wall button), and W1 to Y3 without luck. I think I tried W1 to G4 as well, but can't recall specifically. Do you know if these sensors should work?

That might be the problem. I think the older Overhead Door systems might have used a different sensor that what Genie is selling now (hence their comment about supporting openers made after 1993).

One more thing. There should be I believe two fuses for your unit. Did you check both?

No, I didn't! Do you know where those are located?

Must have been confused. Sorry - the fuse is only on the DC models.

I'd try ordering a set of the legacy door sensors and try it out.

Geni Tech Support 1-800-843-4084 has saved my bacon many times. They have walked me through some trouble shooting problems and even sent me parts when my problems were covered by warranty, one time they sent a repair tech at no charge to me.

Genie Tech Support for the WIN!!! This particular model (1995) requires a wire harness that plugs into the STB port on the back left of the unit. <$10 for the wire harness (Genie 20302R) and I should be good to go!

They actually did send me a scanned copy of the exact manual for my model. She made it seem so easy! I've attached the manual in case anyone else might need it. Not available anywhere else I looked online, which seems crazy.

I have the exact garage door opener and bought these sensors off of Amazon. Worked perfectly. Make sure you get the overhead/genie
