So I tried to order 2 custom size overhead doors back in May 21, and the box stores said the lead times were up to 12 weeks. I checked back in September and they said it's up to 14-17 weeks. I called around to the overhead door companies 2 weeks ago and nothings changed. They said it's not the panels, it's the hardware that comes from China. I thought maybe with the Texas, Florida, and Louisiana ports unloading now, maybe things would move along better. I guess not?? I'm surprized there's no one on this forum building a garage or shop this summer that hasn't mentioned this.

Yeah, I ordered a custom door a while back. Dealer told me 8 weeks. It ended up being about double that. Now they can't get the touch up paint to fix the door that arrived scuffed.

I’ve been affected by this. Ordered 2 doors on May 24th and still waiting… they originally quoted a delivery date in mid August.

New home construction we are ordering garage doors before we excavate as the lead times are quoted at 15 weeks. Been doing this for over a year now.

I've seen it mentioned several times in construction threads. I think I even stated my lead time in a couple places. Its bad.

The Texas ports are tiny compared to LA/LB and its a long way around to get there. Panama Canal is backlogged now as well. Then you have to get cargo frames and trucks to the areas of increased traffic.

Delayed construction material/product delivery times, price increases, and shortages have been a common topic in here for nearly two years now.

One of our neighbors had a pole barn built in May this year and the overhead door just arrived last week

When I had my pole barn built back in May, standard size roll up doors were 4 weeks out, if you wanted them white. We wanted them painted, and it ended up being 10 weeks. Reading this post, I feel lucky now.

Our SIL had the same thing. I don't remember the exact dates but it was a long, long time. In addition to stuff mentioned above there was also that ship jammed in the canal for several weeks.

My garage doors were WAY late. I had to install temp doors in order to close on my house. I think I was 16 weeks or more, I would have to check the dates to be certain.

Still waiting on my fridge and stove, we are now into month 13, they told me last week they think they will be in and can deliver the day before thanksgiving. We shall see...

Has the door pricing gone wacky too?
No experience here, but my attached door came down while backing my wife's vehicle in the garage recently & she doesn't like it's new look...

10 month wait time here in Michigan according to two people who have tarps hanging over where their old doors used to be.

Order 2 Oct 12, scheduled to be ready for pickup Dec 30. so 10 weeks here. Rep told me the same thing as other have said. It's not the panels it's the hardware (she mentioned the springs specifically) and windows.

Prices went up too from when I was originally quoted to the time I placed the order.

Neighbor had a small local Installer/Supplier install to custom sized doors this past summer and fall. Both came in 2 weeks earlier than quoted.

Came in here to post about a phone call I just had w/ overhead door. Quoted $2100 for an insulated 9x8 with a lead time of 24 weeks. Thought the price was a little high (others quoted 1400-1500, but probably lesser quality doors) but was more upset to hear about the lead time.

I just couldn't commit to waiting several months for the delivery. So I'm not even waiting for doors. What a dilemma. I've got a large abrasive blasting system I want to install in a back building and I need 2 doors for access to that area. The project is on full stop at this point. At this point, I'm considering building wooden sliding barn doors, at least basic ones for now maybe out of chip board to move ahead with the project. And that's IF I can get barn door track and hardware........ha.

More ports unloading just moves the giant pile of sh!t onto another system that cannot handle it. I'm sure anyone who works in the transportation industry just sat back and laughed at the government getting involved with the ports.

I got lucky and we found someone in budget if I dropped all the nice finishing touches and selected the right model. Otherwise longer lead time and around 180% the original cost

I’m seeing the same issues in Nebraska. My building has a sliding door with a bent frame so I’ve been wanting to change to an overhead door. The lead times I was quoted were typically 12-16 weeks. I ended up finding a 5 year old used door with opener for 1/5th the price from someone that built a new building and had to have matching doors on their existing building.

Yes.

I asked for a quote... then was a few weeks past the 30 day validity of the quote when I said "Yes, order me that". Price went up over 20% in that short time. :shocking:

We ordered an overhead door at the end of May/beginning of June and was told 12 week lead time. It was installed a week ago.

The installer told us there was a scheduled price increase in June, but since then, there have been two additional unscheduled price increases. He went on to say the same door now would be 28-30% more than what we paid in May.

Is anyone dealing with CHI doors? I had 2 doors ordered on 9/29 and was told 10-12 weeks. We are sitting at week 9, so I am holding out hope! Luckily, these are just replacements, so the building is closed in even if the old 1960's doors dont operate at the moment!

Mine took forever to come in. Just talked to my builder today, and he said they're estimating about 6 months out.

If you're around middle Tennessee, I have a 7x16 insulated metal door in good shape and an opener I will sell cheap. You pick up.

Ordered two 10 x 8 overhead doors yesterday. From one source the price went up 50% since originally quoted in the summer. Got another vendor but the price was still 30% over the same estimate. Pays to shop around. Delivery time looks like 16 weeks. No word on what the critical path item(s) are but I suspect its parts that are floating around in containers off the coast of Port of L.A., we'll see.

I recommend anyone that is buying doors to avoid richard-wilcox for the time being. They quoted a delivery time of 3 months and it is now double that. Still no door.

Yea it's crazy. I ordered a metal building in July. Still nothing. Talked to a trucker yesterday. He said they can run the ports 24/7 but they don't have enough container trailers.

I waited longer than that for my doors from Clopay. Pretty much how it is out there. I hear non-insulated doors come faster but I see houses with temp doors on them all over the place in my area.

The installer has my panels and has had them for a while but no tracks.

That's odd, we have stacks of tracks here but have trouble getting the doors. I was down in our warehouse and we have lots of tracks. Not a door guy so I don't know if there are different kinds of tracks for different types of doors but they all look pretty similar to me.

That's too bad, really. I routinely throw tracks away, insofar as I have to eventually replace a door, and they always throw those in. The tracks don't go bad. It's not like you could sell them.
