Need to order a 12x12 door within the next week or so and I see many doors are round R-9, but a few are in the R-16. Are the higher R values really that much better or is it just a sales pitch? I will be heating my 30x40 here in Northwest NJ. any brand recommendations?
Thanks!

I go with the insulated more because that stiffens and quiets the door.
Otherwise they dent easy and sound "tinny" when moving.

f the higher R value gets you a thicker door get it.

I'd spend reasonable cash to get more.

Granted a garage door is always going to be a leaky spot, but I'd rather have more insulation during a cold spell and trying to heat the space than less insulation during the entire Winter wishing I had more.

There are two types of foam, both are good, one is better. Styrene is a styrofoam like the cup. It is placed inside the cavity and the two sides of the section are joined. Second is foamed in place polyurethane. Much better, higher R value in similar thickness and bonds the skins together. Much better. Ask your dealer for details. Most major brands are similar in quality and price. Dealer service and parts usually tips the scale towards a particular brand. Be careful with Wayne Dalton and Garaga. They have some really cheap products on the low dollar scale.
